looks. He is looking for love, but even his crush is afraid of him
because of his appearance. The main location of the music video is
the office that the protagonist works at, which shows that he lives a
simple and normal life, him being hated on because of his deformed
face is presented as a usual occurrence that is expected because
of his appearance. To further present that the character has a
normal life, he also lives in a usual everyday house with his dog.
Presenting him with a normal house and job contradicts him being
bullied for his looks, because this presents him as an everyday
person. The lighting throughout the video is dark showing how the
main character has to shield himself from people because they
judge him. The protagonist is wearing makeup to make him appear
different which is the main topic of the music video.
An important object in the video is the characterโs mug, which says
โWorldโs greatest employeeโ and the bullies change it to โworldโs
greatest freak. It once against shows the audience that they should
sypahtise what the main character is going through.
3. The editing cuts made in โAll I wantโ are jumps cuts.
They are used during a fight scene between the
protagonist and the men who laugh and him, and
harassment the female lead through the video. These
jumps cuts goes in time with the beat of the music, at it
picks up in pace and it the quick change it show also
show the confusion for the main character, as he is not
used to fighting for himself.
In the park scenes with the main character and his dog,
a light pink/orange filter is used, to show a calm tone
when he is with his dog. It shows that his life is easier
with his dog because his dog does not judge him by his
looks like everyone else does - the dog has a closer
connection with them and the filters show this. The video
and the song is about a romance, and that this man is in
love with his co-worker, but the editing contradicts this
as it seems the main character is happier with his dog.
4. Non-diegetic and diegetic sounds are used in the music video. The
Non-diegetic, of course, is the actual song. The diegetic sounds in
the office where people walk in the office and wolf whistling at the
woman. At the start of the video, before the music begins the
woman screams at the sight of the main character, which tells the
audience his face is the main subject of the video, but afterward,
when she laughs awkwardly is shows to the audience how people
have treated him all his life, even people he know canโt get used to
the sight of him.
However, by the end of the video, after he saves her from the
bullies in their office. She becomes comfortable around him, and
they sound of their laughter, his front door unlocking and the sound
of her kissing his cheek shows that over time she has come to see
past his face. She has come to accept him for who he is.
