2. suspense
• In the opening of the thriller, one of the most
commonly used convention is suspense. This
is because it immediately hooks the audience
and gets them instantly engaged with the film.
3. Shock
• At the end of our thriller opening it causes
shock as the audience are unaware the
mysterious guy will catch up with the girl.
4. Fast shots
• This convention builds up tension through the
fast shots, it in a sense confuses the audience
because they cannot clearly see what is going
on. It then makes what happens come as
more of a shock to the audience.
5. dissolve
• The dissolve effect creates a suspicious and
eerie feeling through the scene. It also allows
to merge two scenes together in our case the
newspapers to the girl walking.
6. Extreme close up
• This convention is used nearer to the end of
our thriller opening. It happens when we see a
shot of the mysterious man and girl together.
It is a good effect as it allows the audience to
clearly see what is going on.
7. Mind games
• Mind games are an effective convention as it
allows the audience to feel part of the scene
and allows them to think of what might
happen, we used this in our thriller opening
when the girl was looking around to see
where the mysterious man was, he was
nowhere to be seen and this confused the
audience.
8. antagonist
• The antagonist of our thriller was the
mysterious man and it is immediately obvious
he is the antagonist because of the girls
reaction.
