1. Graphic Design And Art And Design
Often times a painting has the same structure as a design. The details can be similar for both
Graphic Design and Fine Art. Paintings such as Son of Man by Magritte which has basics such
as shadow, highlight, simple composition, and a dull color palette. A design for Apple Laptops
was created of a decal of Son of Man. This design also had shadow, light, basic composition, and
an achromatic color palette. The structure is the same, but one is created digitally and one is a
painting. The processes can also be very similar. Many artists use technology in their artwork.
They use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, programs for designers and use it to create their
artwork. Artists such as Jeff Koons who manipulates images on Photoshop, prints it and paints
hyper realistic paintings from those images. The structure and process for art and design can be
very similar. Can an artist be a designer or vise versa? One argument that critics make is that
artists are just artists or that a designer is not an artist. However there are countless artists who are
designers and vise versa. One famous designer would be Eva Zeisel. Eva Zeisel is famous for
creating a body of dinner sets which she created after she was released in Russia. While
imprisoned, Zeisel found inspiration in the curves of her own body claiming it was the only art she
had. Afterwards she created "useful" art which was her groundbreaking design of minimalist
dinnerware, (Eva Zeisel, groundbreaking designer, dies). Her

2. Graphic Designer, a professional who creates designs using print, electronic, and film media, is a
career I wish to pursue for the good wages, social contacts and supporters, and artistic expression.
My career choice for my future is to be a Graphic designer. I have been interested in becoming a
graphic designer ever since I realized what a great opportunity it would be for me. I originally
wanted to be a Fine Artist when I won my first art competition in the first grade, but after a few
years I realized I had a bigger passion for graphic designing and that it was a better job for me.
Graphics designing requires perfection, which grabbed my interest. It will be challenging to
compete with other artists and to give people exactly what they want. I want to have a job in this
career because it is a challenging job that I enjoy doing, as well as be able to meet lots of people,
become a well known artist, and make lots of money. Being a graphic designer requires one to
come up with designs using tools like printers, computers, and other electronic devices or free
drawing or sketch something by hand using pencil and paper. All designs must be perfect and
precise to what the customer wants. Some designs require people to freehand and sketch things
too. Graphics designs are constantly becoming more advanced and is constantly needed. Graphics
designing is growing and is always in need of young people to become skilled to take over and allow

According to a poll question that was conducted in 2012 by graphicdesign.com, about 93% of
Graphic Designers agreed to the statement that the Graphic Design industry is in bad shape and do
not know where the discipline is headed. The root of Graphic Design is communication of an idea
through art or graphics. And it has been in human history for the longest time, from cave drawings
to hieroglyphs and from physical prints to the digital media. It has become a well–established
industry but many of those who have been working as graphic designers for years see that it is

designers as other people can do what Graphic Designers do for a living but for a cheaper cost.
Those who are in the industry are starting to doubt if the industry is still needed. But in actuality,
Graphic Designers are still considered as an important industry by society and as well as other
industries. Graphic Designers are very adaptable to their environment. And Graphic Designers are
trained to be problem solvers. It has some economic advantage, and can be recession–proof. Lastly
the graphic design industry is a business oriented creative industry.
Graphic Designers are adaptable to their ever changing environment. It seems as if it is natural for
Graphic Designers to be able to conform with the times. The industry is well accustomed and does
make use of technology. Technology will always develop and become better, and the same goes for
the industry. As technology advances, as new programs are made, Graphic Design conform with
these developments, creating new techniques and ways to be able to communicate an idea. Back
then designers would use the print media which are physical copies of the work made by hand,
today there are programs in which majority of graphic

4. What Is The Value Of Graphic Design? Essay
What is the value of graphic design?
Graphic Design's role in advertising is arguably a controversial one in regards to the morality and
principles that designers have to consider when generating work for companies and issues they find
have questionable ideologies. To a certain extent, graphic designers have to take into consideration
the ethical and moral implications any design brief may have and deliberate the monetary value
against their own moral standards. Taking this into consideration, the value ofgraphic design will be
reflected upon, concentrating on its value within the advertising industry whilst discussing relevant
examples of artists whose moral values have been called upon. The history of graphic design and its
origins will also be considered in order for the value of graphic design in advertising to be
thoroughly explored and developed. Philip B. Meggs said of graphic design: "As early as 1922 the
Massachusetts–based type designer, calligrapher, and book designer William Addison Dwiggins
coined the term graphic design." (Meggs, P.B., Purvis, A.W., 2006.) Commercial artists, those whose

ever since. From this point on, the relationship between designers and clients and their
often–conflicting ideologies has been a matter of social discussi¬¬on and an issue many
designers have reflected upon.

6. What Is Graphic Design?
What is graphic design? The term "graphic design" basically means the art and skill of combining
text and images to convey messages on everything and everywhere.2 The very first time the term
"graphic design" was used was during 1922 in a newspaper article. By the 1980s, the term was
widely used in newspapers, magazines and some publications even ran entire series of articles,
attempting to explain what it meant.2 This literature review will cover on the history of graphic
design, the impact of digital technology and how digital technology has made life easier.
So how did graphic design come about? It all started when Johann Gutenberg invented movable
type in 1455 (the 15th century). He invented it because of a reason: to be able to print books. 3
This invention of movable type has caused rapid changes in the world of graphic design. Up till
today, many fonts and typefaces that were created back in the 15th century are still being used
today. However, the term 'graphic design' originated in the early 20th century when designers started
to operate independently. Graphic design actually began when the 'design' of printed materials
developed into a practicable commercial activity separated from print.4 The birth of graphic design
as a career also began during the 20th century....show more content...

Along with it being easy to master, graphic design can also supply a large amount of money. This
is because there are so many websites dedicated to it. As said before, putting designs on numerous
websites increases the chances that someone will buy them. Certain websites even have different
prices, which is actually a very good point. Some websites will sell designs for up to $30.00, while
some only $5.00 or $10.00 dollars. It is a statistical fact that most people will buy cheaper designs,
while some people still buying expensive ones. Either way, both websites will generate the same
amount of profit. To go along with this, average graphic designers in America today make over
$40,000 a year. That is a more than the average salary of an American today, just for doing barely
any work. In some cases, graphic designers can make over $60,000 a year, an outrageous salary for
doing barely any work. Graphic design is a very easy way to earn money, but it is also a great way to
save money. Most websites have services that give a rewards for posting designs. Posting designs
can usually make posters and t–shirt designs cheaper and easier to buy. Many websites similar to
Redbubble do this. To along with saving money, making custom designs can do this as well. It
would be a waste of money to buy an expensive poster or t–shirt design, when creating a custom one

time and has undergone an extensive amount of change throughout the years for it to get to where it
is today. Each piece of technology that has been invented throughout history not only has improved
upon daily private and social lives, but they also impacted the way in which one was able to convey

11. My Goals For Graphic Design
What I want to achieve during my lifetime is to become a graphic designer, and an actor. I do not
necessarily look at them as dreams, but as goals to achieve. One does not necessarily need an
education in acting, but for graphic design it is highly recommended. My aspirations have impacted
my life because it has led me to enroll in school, and achieve that career as a graphic designer.
Since, I was young I have had a passion for art and all its multi–facets. Animation and video games
have played big roles in my life because I have always been intrigued by the graphic detail that is
put into these creations. I feel sometimes, that this form of art is under appreciated because
people do not realize how much work goes into bringing an idea from a piece of paper to life on a
screen. Being a graphic designer requires education in order to have success in this field because
you're introduced to new software that will become your tools to creation. I am taking this process
of being a graphic designer step by step, and doing what I have to do in order to accomplish my
goal which means, I have to start off by getting an education. What I'm doing now to gain that
education and knowledge about graphic design is taking courses that are essential to my area of study.
Although, I am at the beginning stage of this process, I know that working in this field is very team
oriented. There can be hundreds of creators working on a project at one time and in multiple
facilities. The job market

12. Graphic Design Disciplines
It did not require very much thought to narrow down the list of Graphic Design Disciplines. Of the
twelve types of disciplines discussed, I can see myself working in the fields of Brand and Identity
Design, Motion Graphics, and Advertising.
Brand and Identity Design is what most people think of when hearing the words "graphic design".
Admittedly, I assumed that the creation of logos, the look of products, websites, were the only
aspects of this field. So, those were the things I created in my leisurely time, or the things I was
required to produce in high school classes and competitions. I now know that those aspects only
comprise a small part of graphic design, and provides a miniscule, vague description of what
Brand Designers achieve. A Brand Designer is responsible for the overall representation of a
company, and must market a company's particular brand through the use of several mediums.
Those mediums include logos, web sites, apps, and so on. A consistence must exist in everything
produced for a certain company because the point/ of a brand is to label a company to they are
simple to identify, and companies cannot be easily labelled with ever–changing brands.
If I choose the Brand Design disciplines, I am considering working towards a job as a Senior
Graphic Designer. I would work closely with the marketing department of a company to help create
brand designs. It would be my responsibility to overlook the company's brand and ensure that works

want to be famous, for people to know their name, and they also probably want to make a large

can offer some of the same exciting opportunities. A graphic designer is an interesting job because it
allows creativity and artistry, combines designing with business and marketing, and gives an
opportunity to become well–known in the field. Louise Horton once summed up the job description

becoming increasingly popular by stating that in 2010, about thirty percent of all graphic designers
were self–employed (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). As with all jobs, free–lancing does have its
advantages as disadvantages. An advantage is that free–lancers have an opportunity that most other
graphic designers do not, and that is to make an incredible amount of money if they create an
extraordinary piece of art. They do not have to share their money with anyone if they make a good
sale. (Gordon). Another advantage is that there is no one telling them what they have to create, no
one is holding them back from their possible success. They are in charge of their own reputation,
may it be good or bad (Gordon). A disadvantage is that there can be long stretches of time where
business cannot be found, and that can cause some free–lancers to have to work more than one job
(Gordon). Free Lance is very risky and most people prefer a job with a guaranteed, steady, income
than the insecurity of free–lance (Gordon). Whether working on one's own, or involved with a
business, it is very important to have the proper experience before setting out for a job. Art classes

The main genres of writing within the field include proposal writing and technical writing. Many
articles I have found use specific terms associated with the field of Graphic Design. For example,
the article "Primary Design Elements Found in Outstanding Digital Illustrations," by a designer
called LoungeKat, outlines and explains various elements of design such as negative space,
implied texture, and monochromatic uses of color. Articles such as this one are mainly written
to help designers improve their technique and develop a better understanding of how to create
meaningful designs. Within this specific genre of technical writing, designers require an
understanding of ethos because their audience need to feel that they are a credible source in the
graphic design field. Specifically, within LoungeKat's article, technical terminology is utilized to
develop that ethos as well as specific examples. However, a majority of the article utilizes simple
language rather than advanced language. Many articles about graphic design maintain that sense
of simplicity in their writing as well. I assume this is because the field is not heavy on writing or
research and instead it focuses on art and visual designs so there is no need to use such a formal
or advanced way of writing. In addition, credible sources such as peer journals are very important
in many fields of work because they can be trusted to provide reliable information. During the

in video games, movies, and television today. There are many different image types for graphics: 2D
computer graphics, pixel art, vector graphics, 3D computers graphics, and computer animation.

can be changed by editing the screen objects which are saved as modifications. The size of the file
depends on the resolution required. Once a file is converted from vector format, it is bigger, and it

GRAPHIC DESIGN ISP INTRODUCTION Art is a form of expression that dates back to the
beginning of time. Since then it has evolved and changed to adapt to modern times. Whether that be
through a shift in style, in medium, or technology. Graphic design, contrary to popular belief,
actually began in 1922, to define graphic art across time. Since the introduction of the modern
computer and graphic design software, it has evolved into an n art style that is present everywhere in

the three most basic techniques used in graphic art, and can define a work as either superior, or
amateur. All three of these concepts work together to create the concept of "visual identity".
Visual identity is a term coined by Abduzeedo (world renown Brazilian graphic designer),
meaning simply the "definitive element within the design process used across all applications
and branding materials". As discussed above this could be as simple as the apple logo, or even as
complex as a stamp. Most large organizations have a visual identity, even the US Government
does. The visual identity of the US Government for example could be the American flag, or the
bald eagle, as this is present throughout their entire brand line. During 2008, President Obama used
the concept of the visual identity, but took it one step further and used the "verbal identity". He
associated the word "change" with his campaign so that this would become an integral part of it. By
utilizing the word change he essentially created a memorable center point for his campaign
messages by which people could remember and associate with him. (Abduzeedo "The Makery –
Visual Identity") A problem that many graphic artists

very important in the work environment, it can generate new ideas and cut the time spent on a
project in half. Working as a team for a project is a great source of inspiration, creativity, and
healthy competition (Cezzar, Juliette). Graphic design is a highly competitive career with trends

Graphic design is everywhere; it is a way of communicating through the use of type, space and
image. Graphic designers use numerous methods to create and combine words, symbols, and
images, which creates a visual representation of ideas and messages. A graphic designer may use a
combination of typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce a final result. William
Morris and Joost Schmidt have both used these techniques to produce astonishing pieces of graphic
design, which are going to be compared and contrasted throughout this essay. The 1923 legendary
typographer and graphic designer Joost Schmidt in Weimar, Germany createdBauhaus Exhibition
Poster. The other piece of design I have decided to analyse is a two–page spread of the edition of
works of Geoffrey Chaucer. This was the Kelmscott press finest achievement; it was designed by
William Morris and illustrated by his friend Burne–Jones. This was the most beautiful book of its
day; it serves as a tribute to "Chaucer" and to Morris himself. (Meggs, P., & Purvis, A. 2006).
These design outcomes came from two very contrasting movements. The Arts and craft Movement
and the Bauhaus movement. The Arts and Crafts Movement was an international design movement
that thrived between 1800 and 1910. The main influence was writer and designer William Morris.
William Morris was one of the most influential designers of the Arts and crafts movement. He led the
