The history of Makita started way back in 1915. At that time, they began repairing and selling
motors, transformers and lighting equipment in Nagoya city. It wasn't until 1935, however, that they
began exporting electric generators into the Soviet Union. Approximately 10 years later, Makita
made a move to Sumiyoshio-Cho in order to avoid air raids that were taking place as a result of
World War II. This is the area where they still have their main office.
In 1958, Makita began producing electric planers and a few years later, they were exporting them to
Australia. By 1960, they had a new plant that was established and were ready to take their products
worldwide. Interestingly enough, only 3 years later in 1963, they became an entirely debt-free
