The document provides a comparison of the science fiction films The Hunger Games and The Giver. Both films are based on novels and take place in dystopian futures where the main characters live under oppressive authoritarian governments. While the films have different categories (adventure for The Hunger Games and drama for The Giver), they share similar political messages about the dangers of autocracy and the importance of democracy. In both stories, the main characters Katniss and Jonas work to overthrow their oppressive regimes and bring freedom to their people.

2. Comparison Essay (Science Fiction Film)
There are different genre kind of movies and films and some of them are combined by
more than one element or genre. Basically, the genre type of movie can be categorized into
action, cartoon, comedy, disaster, drama, fantasy, horror, musical, war, romance, science-fiction
and many more. Nowadays, most movies leave impressions on audiences, they will always left
with the impression with “It was the best movie I ever watched!” but I do believe that not
everyone watch films depending on genre-related reasons but also to get inspired by the story
and its characters. For me, actresses and actors like Jason Statham, Jennifer Lawrence and Liam
Hemsworth are professional and astonishing. Movies and films are originated since thousand
years ago, the early elements of films are basically dances and motions and there is neither any
intimations nor allegories in it. Later, different kind of terminology used in film theory and
criticism apply. Mostly auditors started to use films or movies to announce their messages very
clearly. These messages have the potential to change our lives and they probably convey
emotions, raise awareness about issues, educate about subjects or just to entertain the audiences.
This is why a film can always can a person in the slightest wat, no matter what kind of movie it
was. As for science fiction films, they are usually scientific, visionary and imaginative. These
films take place in the future and feature world that is not exist.
The two movies that I have chosen for this essay are The Hunger Games and The Giver.
These two movies are based on novels which were wrote by Michael Mitnick and Gary Ross.
Years later, the movies of both novels were come out with their directors, Philip Noyce and Gary
Ross. The genres of both movies are based on science fiction but with different categories. As for
The Hunger Games, it is an adventure, science fiction movie. On the other hand, The Giver is
also a science fiction film, but with the category of drama. There are some differences between
adventure and drama films especially contents and scripts. An adventure fiction film is a genre of
fiction which represents an adventure or exciting undertaking involving risk and physical danger
as the main storyline meanwhile a drama fiction is another genre of fiction which focus on story-
telling, and it is strongly based in a character, or characters, that are conflict at a crucial moment
in their lives. For examples, drama fiction films do not focus on visual effect while adventure
films do and also drama fiction films show a lot on realistic characters dealing with emotional
themes, such as alcoholism, morals, religion and more while adventure films do not.
Here are the storylines of both movies. Firstly, The Hunger Games is about the main
character, Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister's place in the Hunger Games, a
televised competition in which two teenagers from each of the twelve Districts of Panem are
chosen at random to fight to the death. Luckily, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark have won
the game and they have become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger
Games sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem. She started to reveal the truth behind the
games and she has placed in District 13 after she shattered the games forever. Under the
3. leadership of President Coin and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as
she fights to save Peeta and a nation moved by her courage. In the end, Katniss Everdeen not
just saving her folks but she free a whole nation from tyrannical oppression and poverty. As for
The Giver, it is about a young boy, Jonas, who lives in a seemingly idyllic world of conformity
and contentment. When he begins to spend time with an old man, The Giver, who is the sole
keeper of the community's memories, Jonas discovers the dangerous truths of his community's
secret past. Armed with the power of knowledge, Jonas realizes that he must escape from their
world to protect himself and those he loves, a challenge no one has ever completed successfully.
In the end of the story, Jonas unsealed the histories of his community and brought all of them
back to the world.
The similarities between two movies are based on their metaphor behind the stories. Both
of the movies are far more political than any teenage drama written in the 21st century. First, The
Hunger Games is actually talking about social level. As you can see that how those upper classes
play with lower classes. They put those who live in poverty into The Hunger Game, and watch it
as a televised competition. However, in the scenes of The giver, there are neither wars nor
tortures. The president of the peaceful world decided to prevent her residents from torture,
sadness and emotions. So lastly she has barred all the humans’ lives memories that has related to
suffer.
Being over protective and despotic is the essential of political messages in both movies. It
shows how do presidents in both of the world try to control their residents. Even though the main
character of both stories, Katniss Everdeen and Jonas, live in a different world, but on the same
point in time they were trying to save their loved ones, families, friends and the world which live
under despotism. Lacking of democracy and the issue of tyranny were obviously shown in both
films. The situation of autocracy makes both of the main character decided to stand out of the
crowd and revolt. Through this we can see a direct relationship with the real world, which
makes the story even scarier and the criticism fiercer as lower classes people got no rights to
choose the lives they have always wanted because of the autocratic of their country. In the
good ending of both stories, Katniss and Jonas successfully save their country and the peoples
so it inklings that there is still hope for us to save our world before it is too late.
In conclusion, although The Hunger Games and The Giver are differ in storyline, settings
and but their ending is the same as it announces the same messages. Democracy need for
compromise because in a democracy all of the people are represented and all of the people need
to be served. No one can have everything in their own way. Without compromise, there would be
a tremendous part of society that would be unserved in any legislative or legal debate and that
will be one of the path which leads the country to civil war.
