Sixties, More than 40 years later the band's
music continues to sound vital.
In the 1964 British Invasion the Stones were
promoted as bad boys, a gimmick that stuck as
an image .
Their music started as a gruffer, faster version
of Chicago blues, but eventually the Stones
founded British rock's tone of ironic
detachment.
In June 1963 the Stones released their first
single, Chuck Berry's "Come On.” the single
reached Number 21 on the British chart.
In December 1963 the Stones' second single, "I
Wanna Be Your Man" (written by John Lennon
and Paul McCartney), made the British Top 15.

• The Stone Roses are an English rock band
formed in Manchester in 1983.
• The Stone Roses went from playing small
clubs in the mid-1980s to massive stadiums
by decade's end, with their faces appearing
all over the U.K. music papers.
• The band released their debut album, The
Stone Roses, in 1989. critics regarded it as
one of the greatest British albums ever
recorded.
• Their current record label, Silvertone, would
not let them out of their contract, which led
to a long legal battle that finished with the
band signing with Geffen Records in 1991.
• The Stone Roses then released their second
album, Second Coming in 1994. The group
soon disbanded after several lineup changes
throughout the supporting tour, which began
with Reni first departing in late 1995.
