What is Social Networking? <ul><li>Social networking is a system that allows you to connect with many people all over the world. </li></ul><ul><li>It’s a chance for you express to people who you really are. </li></ul><ul><li>Allows you to express your interests, likes and dislikes. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Connecting to the Social World! <ul><li>Blogging Sites </li></ul><ul><ul><li>WordPress. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>BlogSpot. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Facebook </li></ul><ul><li>Myspace </li></ul><ul><li>Linkedin </li></ul><ul><li>Twitter </li></ul>

Facebook <ul><li>A site where users can add friends and update their personal profiles to notify friends, family, and co-workers about themselves </li></ul><ul><li>Features on the site include: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Wall- friends can sign and view the walls of other users </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Messaging- where personal messages are sent between two or more parties </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Photos- pics are posted by users for others to see and even comment on </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>“ pokes”- users can use this feature to virtually touch other friends </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Status updates- users can use this feature to update what he or she is doing at all times </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Applications- i.e. honesty box, gifts, etc. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Through News Feeds users can see the different updates </li></ul>

Twitter <ul><li>As if text messaging wasn’t enough. </li></ul><ul><li>Twitter allows you to update status to keep your fellow followers updated on your thoughts. </li></ul><ul><li>Allows you connect with a variety of different people and companies. </li></ul><ul><li>Ever wonder what you favorite celebrity was doing? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Twitter allows you to follow the most rich and famous. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Allows you to keep involved in the most trendy topics and even updates you the coolest people to follow. </li></ul></ul>

YouTube! <ul><li>Are you into making cool videos? </li></ul><ul><li>Are you always trying to find cool ways to express you corky personality? </li></ul><ul><li>Do you enjoy displaying your talents and views on camera…..then if you are </li></ul><ul><ul><li>YOUTUBE is just for you. </li></ul></ul>

YouTube <ul><li>YouTube allows you post your own video’s to millions of people all over the world. </li></ul><ul><li>The internet is quickly growing and YouTube is quickly growing with it. </li></ul><ul><li>Get enough hits and views on YouTube and your viral video can end up all over the internet. </li></ul>

Skype <ul><li>Ever been in another state and needed to have an emergency conference back at home with the rest of the office? </li></ul><ul><li>… .then Skype is just for you. </li></ul><ul><li>Simple as setting up your webcam and connecting to the internet. </li></ul><ul><li>Skype allows you to make voice calls over the internet. From all over the world. </li></ul><ul><li>Skype is used by some of the best in entrainment world. </li></ul><ul><li>Oprah Winfrey it to conference in people from their private home to her studio. </li></ul>

Linkedin <ul><li>The professional Facebook. </li></ul><ul><li>Connecting with co-worker, bosses, and future employers and/or employees. </li></ul><ul><li>Linkedin allows you to upload resume and receive recommendations and still socialize at the same time. </li></ul><ul><li>Great way for employers to find what their looking for. </li></ul><ul><li>Also great, easy, fast way to communicate without the hassle of emailing back and forth and without all the unnecessary paperwork. </li></ul>

Google <ul><li>Google is one of the five most popular websites in the world. </li></ul><ul><li>Google allows you to search anything from companies to movies to certain photos to people. </li></ul><ul><li>Google will search based off of your “keywords” and find the most used websites for your search. </li></ul>

Adwords <ul><li>If you have a company and you want you company to company to come up in the top choices of the search when searched for then you need to use “Adwords”. </li></ul><ul><li>How does it work? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Say your company is “Bed, Bath and Beyond” </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>In your descriptions you might use words such as “ Bed, bath, beyond, home goods, bed bath decor and etc” </li></ul></ul>

Blogs <ul><li>A website where individuals can express his or her feelings, thoughts, and ideas publicly via video, photo, or through word expressions </li></ul><ul><li>Usually categorized and/or themed </li></ul><ul><ul><li>i.e.: celebrity gossip blog or political policies blogs </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Viewed by a wide ranged audience to find out what other individuals think </li></ul><ul><li>Allows for spectators to comment either for or against the topic being discussed </li></ul>

Pros ands Cons to Social Networking/Media <ul><li>Pros </li></ul><ul><ul><li>A greater chance to brand yourself. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The coverage that the internet can reach. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Being able to find long lost friends and/or relatives. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Being able to assess news faster. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Cons </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The constant new devolvement of cites with new technology. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Too much exposure </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Lack of privacy </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Not user friendly. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Navigating through some cites can be more challenging then others </li></ul></ul></ul>

What does all of this mean? <ul><li>Social networking cites is a chance for people who want a different way to brand their name and/or company to do so. </li></ul><ul><li>Branding yourself hasn’t become a necessity but it is quickly approaching. </li></ul><ul><li>Companies are starting to use the internet (Google) as a way to research their newly interested employees and if done correctly it can only mean great things. </li></ul>

Conclusion <ul><li>There may be some pros and cons to social networking but in the end it all pays off. </li></ul><ul><li>Learning to brand yourself now will help you out in the long run. </li></ul><ul><li>There are no age restrictions on social networking. It’s for everyone. </li></ul><ul><li>Most of all have fun with it. </li></ul>
