2. FEATURES:
- They began in July 28th and finished in
August 12th.
- In total 6. 829 athletes took part. (5.263
men and 1.566 women) from 140 different
countries.
- They competed in 21 sports and 221
specialties.
- The official stadium was called Los
Angeles Memorial Coliseum
4. ATHLETES WHO STOOD OUT
• Carl Lewis won four gold medals in the same
events: 100m, 200m, long jump and 4x100 relay.
5. • The Romanian Ekaterina Szabo won gold medals
in the majority of the rhythmic gymnastics
competitions.
6. CURIOSITIES:
- The Soviet Union and another communist
countries except Rumania didn´t attend.
- Sam was the official mascot.
- For the first time in the Olympic Games a female
marathon was carried out.
