My Life With My Father Essay
The One Week That Will Last a Lifetime Isn 't it funny how fast life can seem to pass by? Often
we are so caught up in the daily actions of the world that we miss certain things in the meantime.
As if we all have infinite time to do infinite things with the people that we carry dearly in our hearts
every single day. Life as we know however, is not always this beautiful. I found this outthe hard way
by losing my father, and falling into a depression I struggle with everyday. I had a very interesting
and in what most cases I consider myself to be a "modern" type of relationship with my father.
My parents had divorced when I was a child, I would go with my mom on weekdays, and my dad
on weekends. Most of the time. In the year 2013 my dad, because of the health of my
grandmother was forced to move to Grand Junction. While 16 at the time, I knew that this was
indeed something he needed to do. This only made our time together less frequent than it was
already was. I was a very peculiar son however, I loved my parents there was never any question
of that fact. Due to the little time I got to spend with my father however, I always felt as if our
relationship never evolved to the biggest it could be. After graduating high school last year, there
was a new sense of commitment in myself however. I was about to get a car and soon would be
able to travel to and from Grand Junction at my own discretion and that couldn't have excited me
more. Finally, a chance to get that relationship

Father and Son Essay
In the story father and son who do you feel more sympathy for.
This story is set in Northern Ireland about a Father and a son in which recently the mother and wife
has died. The son moves temporarily to London but his dad brings him back after what seems to be
trouble with drugs. The father and son do not get along with each other the father tries to get his
sons respect but doesn't succeed. At the end the son is killed and the story is left there leaving us
with the suspicion of who killed him.
The son's relationship with his father is a very poor one. At the start of the story we see that he
avoids speaking to his father by pretending to be asleep. "I will sleep for him". The son is angry
with his father for taking him...show more content...
The Son doesn't think that his father can take care of himself. The son is disgusted how his father
depends on Valium aprescription drug he is on.
"A breakfast of two Valium and the rest of them rattling in your pocket" The Father loves his son but
can't seem to get his son to love him.
They used to get on well when the mother was still alive but the death blew their relationship apart.
The father worries about his son. As his son has been in trouble he had to help him out of it. The
father wants his son to love him again "My son is breaking my heart".
The father tries his best for his son but in some cases he can't understand that it isn't his son's fault
that he's gone downhill in life. The father just thinks that his son doesn't care about life anymore and
that's what can be caused by the death of a family member.
If they meant a lot to you life can seem pointless. The father does not seem to leave the son to his
own devices he seems to worry so much that he has to know everything about what he's doing.
Bernard Mclaverty the author gets the readers sympathy by giving both sides of the stories one for
the father and one for the son he uses a writing technique called alternating first person narration. So
you see the son's thoughts and feelings then you get the father's thoughts and feelings.
Sympathy first arrives for both parties when the reader learns that the Mother and Wife of the family
have recently died. The father is

Childhood Memories of My Father
As I prayed in the dimly lit church, the swirling smoke arising from incense took my mind back to
my childhood years. The golden rays from the sun during the sunset hour did not seem as
resplendent, bright, and cheerful as they usually were. The warm late afternoon air got cooler with
the soft winds. The cool tropical breezes always brought healing and yielded a new desire to live
despite all the problems. Sundown was on its way and summoning many birds to their lovely nests.
At the corner our backyard, my father was making a multi–colored paper and bamboo kite for me.
He said, "Stay here and watch me make your kite fly high." One upright hand held the kite over his
shoulder. The other hand was close to his abdomen and clutched the ball...show more content...
When I was down, he was sad; wh en I was up, he was happy for me.
I will never forget the days I was sick. My persistent coughing made my father wake up in the
middle of the night to check on me. He was worried and felt for my temperature on my forehead
whenever I coughed or took a deep sigh. Whenever he felt my head wa s sweaty and feverish, he
would immediately flip lights on and tiptoe to grab a thermometer. He gently asked me to open
my mouth, so he could measure my temperature. While waiting for the thermometer to register,
my father used a towel to wipe off my swea t with worry. Then "Beep...beep..." my temperature
read 104 degrees. "I must take you to the hospital now," he said. He hardly slept a wink during my
illness. His eyes grew wide open and glistened with happiness when I got better.
Coming home after a few days in the hospital, I was surprised to find my father welcomed me home
with fragrant and dazzling violet carnation decorating my room.. This flower and its color are
symbols for love and faithfulness. That was our favorite flower. I especially liked it for its smell, but
my father liked its color. I didn't understand why he was so obsessed with such a melancholy color.
When I was a little girl, he taught me how to draw. One day, I drew a violet carnation and showed it
to him. He praised me, "It is very nice. You did a good job." He made me feel like I was a fine artist.
I was happy and gave him a hug.
He always encouraged me and

A Father's Love Essay
A Father's Love
I lived in the city with my father. Recently, I bought a new house which is light, large and
comfortable. But since we lived in the new house, my father always had been tired. He was often
sleeping in bed, loudly snoring in the day. The snore that reverberated in the whole new house
made me unable to focus on my work and I couldn't sleep well. Because I was a freedom
contributor who sometimes worked in the night and sometimes slept in the daytime. Because I
wanted to earn the money to live, pay off the debt and buy the new house. I had an occupational
disease of neurasthenia, so I needed a quiet situation for resting and working. And also I was afraid
that he maybe had some...show more content...
It made me so tired. Is it undue that I needed a quiet situation? The next afternoon, I had been
asleep until four o'clock. When I woke up I felt the house was so quiet. I didn't hear any snoring, so I
went to my father's room, but my father was not in. I thought maybe he went out to meet his
friends to play cards with them. I always hoped that he could go out to do something to relieve his
weariness. Although I complained with my father, my father could understand me. Everyday my
father came back in time and cooked for me. Then he would go out again. One day, I asked my
father what did he do and where he wanted to go. My father answered "No, nothing." And then
went out. When he came back again, I said, "You should take care of yourself, and eat something
nutritious." Because I felt that my father was getting thinner than before. But his skin became
whiter. And my father told me that he was healing and strong, he was fine. Although I still worried
about him, I didn't say any more words. I thought maybe I was suspicious, but at last I knew that, in
fact, I was careless with my father and blamed him wrongly.
At the end of the year, I was invited to write a report by my friend's manager. As thanks, the manager
invited my friend and me to have a dinner. After dinner, we went to a big bathroom together.
Beside the huge tub, which was surrounded by vapor, I saw

Personal Narrative: My Father's Death Essay
My father passed away in 1991, two weeks before Christmas. I was 25 at the time but until then I
had not grown up. I was still an ignorant youth that only cared about finding the next party. My
role model was now gone, forcing me to reevaluate the direction my life was heading. I needed to
reexamine some of the lessons he taught me through the years. One of the earliest memories I have
of my father is when he would take me to the park and we would play baseball. My father was eager
to teach me everything he knew about the game, and I was eager to learn. He took it easy on me
at first, allowing me to overcome my fear of being hit by the ball. Each time we went back to the
park he would throw the ball a little harder. It was not long...show more content...
I began to rebel and grades were no longer as important to me as they were to my father. My
grades slipped to a C average, and that was not good enough. Instead of getting upset, my father
encouraged me to apply myself. It took a couple of years, but he made me realize the importance of
school, and that I only had one shot at doing it right. I graduated high school in the top ten percent of
my class, thanks to my father. As I entered my teen years, my father expected more out of me than
just being a good student. Dad always seemed to have projects going on around the house, and I
became his helper. It did not matter what the project was, he always seemed to need my help and
I was not happy about that. I had better things to do than wasting a weekend working around the
house. Somehow my dad knew how to do everything and felt it was his job to teach all of it to me.
I was a teenager and had all of the knowledge I would ever need, so I thought. As it turned out,
most of the skills I obtained helping my father led me to a rather lucrative career in
manufacturing a few years later. Dad was a very stable man, holding the same job at an office
furniture retailer for 25 years. In 1985 he decided to take a chance and open his own furniture
business, a retail store that competed for sales with the very store where he spent most of his life
working. It did not take long to make the new venture a success. Most of my father's customers from

Narrative Essay About My Father
My father was gone before I was born, and was absent in a crucial period of time in my life. It
affected me in the aspect of becoming a man, and the idea of two people coming together as one. A
single mother is one of the hardest situations known to man, and knowing that my father put my
mother through this predicament upsets me to my core. I don't remember much about the stories my
family told about my father, but I do know that I struggled without a father figure. Though my dad
ended up in my life, he still left a hole in crucial moments of my childhood. My mom had two
jobs, and went to school full time. She was the hardest working women I have ever seen. Credit
goes to my mother for being that example of hard work, and dedication. With that being said, I
remember walking in on my mom helplessly sobbing while holding a couple pieces of paper in
her hand. I realized that they were bills, and we were falling behind somehow. I didn't understand
the whole situation, but all I could think of was my father. If he were here we would have more
money, and with the help of another adult it could take a lot of the duties, and stress off my mother.
I was in search for that manly role model to teach me the basics of becoming a gentlemen. Someone
to look up too, and find interest in the the things that I enjoyed. Don't get me wrong, I loved the fact
that my mom tried, and succeed for the most part. Their is just somethings that the dad has to go
through with his son, like a mother

Essay on The Impact of Absent Fathers
Absent Fathers Rough Draft For various reasons, many children in the United States are living
without their fathers in their homes or absent from their lives entirely. This is an issue all across
the world and the children are having to deal with the disadvantages caused by the lack of support
from their fathers. This issue has a significant effect on society and can be viewed and interpreted
from the three sociological perspectives. As a result of many studies, it was found that children
raised in father absent homes almost universally experience disadvantages such as: worse health,
poorer academic achievement, and a less enjoyable educational experience. There are many variables
that need to be taken into effect when considering...show more content...
63 percent of households with an income of $25,000 or less are fatherless, and only 18 percent of
households with an income of $75,000 or higher. Almost identical statistics apply to less than high
school credentials versus a bachelor's or graduate education. 62% of parents that have less than a
high school education are raising children without their father, and only 22% of parents with a
bachelor's degree and 18% of parents with a graduate degree are living in the same situation
(DeBell 2008.) A correlation can be drawn here between education/income and percentage of
fatherless households. Generally speaking, as education increases, so will income. As income
increases, the percentage of fatherless children and households decreases. However, it could be
argued that the income of the household will decrease when the father is gone and not contributing
to the finances. Though children without their fathers may not always be disadvantaged by his
absence, statistics clearly show that as a whole, children in America are not benefitted by the lack of
a father. The same study conducted in 2003 showed that academic achievement is largely affected by
fatherlessness. Seven percent of children living with their father have ever repeated a grade in
school, that number raises to sixteen percent in children without their father. 49 percent of children

Dreams from My Father Essay
Essay: Dreams From My Father
Barack Obama's Dreams From My Father is exactly what it claims to be by title, a story of race
and identity. Barack Obama comes from a diverse background, which he explores throughout the
book. Having a white American mother and black Kenyan father, he has a different experience
than the majority of people in society when it comes to race and identity, however still it seems
similar to the experience of many blacks as described in William E. Cross's Black Psychological
theory, the Nigresence Model of Racial Identity Development. While Obama's experience does not
necessarily occur in chronological order according to Cross's model, in my opinion, it portrays a
good example of how someone enters each stage of...show more content...
At this stage, it is suggested that an individual sees him or herself as part of the entire human
family, proud to be black, but not limited to blackness. The individual sees people only as people,
not as black people, or white people, etc. Furthermore, one thing that pertains particularly to
Barack, in my opinion, is that individuals in this stage enjoy regular company of a wide array of
people and most importantly fight for a wide array of causes, which are not specific to race.
Getting to this place was a journey for Obama just as it is for all others, in my opinion. My
perception of the encounter, for Barack, was neither horribly negative, nor very positive. He was
simply lost, it seemed. As a young child attending a prestigious school in Hawaii, Barack Obama was
cared for by his white American mother and grandparents, but was a brown child, having also a
black Kenyan father. Barack was an outcast for everyone, being secluded from the whites because
of his look, and having a different outlook than other black students at his school who held the
view that they were oppressed by white people. It was far from sensible that the people who loved,
cared for, and supported him the most could oppress Barack.
Curiosity was inevitable for the boy, however, and led him into what William E. Cross's Nigresence
Model declared was the immersion stage of racial identity for a black person. In this stage, African
Americans basically submerge

My Father: The Person I Admire Most
Over time, there have been several people who have influenced various aspects of my life, based
on their personal characteristics, accomplishments, and values. I have been privileged to have had
numerous teachers and professors who I respect for their patience and intelligence. There are artists
that have inspired me by their natural talents and original creativity. I value many political leaders,
who have inspired me by their contributions to society, and their ability to change our futures. Of all
the people I have encountered in my life, the person I admire most is my father. As the youngest girl

No matter how tired he was from his long work week, he would be up bright and early Saturday
morning to attend any of our sporting events, tournaments, or recitals, and then chauffeur us and
our friends to slumber parties or school dances. He was always very protective and kept a
watchful eye over us. My father's protectiveness and selflessness generated at a young age for
him. He is the ninth of twelve children, and often told us stories of how he had to look after, and
practically raise his three younger siblings after my grandfather had passed. He made certain they
completed their chores around my grandmother's farm, maintained good hygiene practices, and
kept up with their schoolwork. School was extremely important to my father, because he knew an
education was the only way he could be successful. Proudly, he finished high school at the age of
sixteen, but could not follow the footsteps of his older brothers and join the military, because he
was too young. Therefore, he decided to continue his studies. The completion of his degree in
biology was bittersweet. He was the first and the only one in his family to have graduated from
college, however, there were not a lot of opportunities for a young African–American male in 1957,
in small town Alabama. After taking few odd jobs, he decided to enlist in the military. My father
had encountered many challenges in his life, but one of his toughest was seeking to date my mother.

The Role Of A Father
3.0 The Role of a father
While both parents are equally important, a father is an instrumental and key figure in the modern
family. This is because he is the head of family and more often than not, the chief bread winner in
most cases.Other tasks and roles performed by a father are unique and defined basing on the cultural
background of the community that he comes from. However, from culture to culture, the
fundamental tasks that are required of manhood are basically the same, some of which we are going
to look briefly in this paper.
A father should always be there for his wife and children to provide the much needed love and
support. Showering them with lots of cash does not necessarily indicate love and support. He should
be ready to give them an ear, comfort them and spend quality time as well as quantity time with
them. This is crucial in creating an emotional tie, a prerequisite for strong and healthy family
relationship. The father therefore plays the role of loving and supporting his spouse and offspring.
Camon extensively explored the effects of not having a fathers love and support on a child's
development (121)
The father offers protection and guards the family. Guarding and protecting does not necessarily
mean directly confronting and beating up anyone who threatens the family. It simply means that as a
father and head of the family, you are reliable and can be counted on by your family when it matters
most. It means you that you

My Relationship With My Father
My relationship with my father is complicated. I am a junior in high school and the successes I
have accomplished both in the class room and in sports are because he has been pushing me so
hard. On the other hand, though, he can be overbearing and controlling at times. Now I am at the
stage in my young adult life where I find myself trying to create some distance between us. It is a
constant battle trying to strike a balance between becoming my own person and not just the one
my father thinks I should be. My father is a fairly senior ranking officer in the military. He is a
full colonel in the Army, only one promotion away from being a general. When at work, he is in
charge of many soldiers and government civilians and contractors who follow his orders without
much choice or questioning. He has worked many jobs at different Army bases, the Pentagon and
in Iraq. It is hard to complain too much as his work has provided a pretty good life for me.
However, he sometimes brings that military mindset home along with his unrealistically high
expectations, and that often creates problems. As his oldest child his expectations for me have
always been high. As the proverbial chip off the old block, he always wanted me to attend West
Point where he went to college. In some ways I feel like I disappointed him by not wanting to
follow in his footsteps. My younger sister has always seemed to be off limits, and I have always
envied her not having to deal with him as much.

Father : An Ideal Father
Today, fatherlessness can be the cause to the many problems individuals have such as mental
illness, drug and alcohol abuse, and poverty. There are two versions of a father, a father incapable
of handling the responsibilities, and an ideal father whose efforts are to see his child or children
succeed. A father is a man in relation to his natural child or children. An ideal father is an
individual who sacrifices, teaches, and supports his child or children. A father in technical terms
is an individual who helps to produce a child, however a father is much more than that. An ideal
father is someone who accompanies his child through the process of growth. Fathers of past
generations were expected simply to help pay the bills and provide discipline for his children but,
the current generations of fathers are far more involved in the emotional and physical
development of their child. An ideal father engrosses himself in his child's whereabouts,
socialization, emotional state, educational progress etc. An ideal father sacrifices certain desires
to put their child's future and success first. For example a specific vehicle or a trip somewhere
could be postponed because his child wanted to participate in a summer camp. If his child is hurt,
his automatic response isn't to "suck it up" or "man up", an ideal father would care to his child's
needs and respond with the utmost care and sympathy. Fathers from previous generations were not
as involved in their child's schooling or

Descriptive Essay About My Father
Every person I have ever met has someone that they are able to look up to and can say that that
specific person is their hero. A very important person in my life that has affected me in many ways
would be my father. There is so much to know about such a great person. Lance Knight is a mentor,
a hard worker, a businessman, an avid ice hockey fan, and a loving dad. Whether he is at home, in
the office, or out socializing with friends and family you can always expect a friendly and
positive demeanor. My father is one of the most paramount and compelling people in my life due
to his love he shares for others, his influential advice, and the countless similarities we have in
common. The love that my father has for others shines like the first light of day of a bright
Arizona sunrise. His loyalty to his friends and family is unparalleled to others. One example of
this would be during the holidays towards his family. He understands that family time is
extremely important, which is why he does his best to create memorable experiences that last a
lifetime. Another example of this involves his business clients that he takes such great care of. As
a financial advisor and money manager for other people, he treats everyone of them as if they
were his closest and dearest friends. He understands that effort and hard work put in towards
others will pay back in the future. Overtime, a level of trust is built between him and his clients
causing them to consistently ask for influential advice. Lance is one of the most influential people
I have ever met. The advice that he has given me in the past has helped me through many life
situations. This specific characteristic has caused him to be a great mentor and life coach to
countless people. What makes him stand out even more is his constant willingness to provide his
influential advice to help others. I have even had close friends ask him for advice on certain topics
of business within their college courses. Another example of influential advice that he has given
happened within the past few weeks towards myself. I had gotten cut from my recent ice hockey
team and I was debating on whether to continue playing or instead attend college in December. He
was the one that convinced

Thanks to My Hardworking Father It is very fortunate for a kid to have his father around. In the last
thirty years, having both parents in the household was rare. Most of my friends I grew up with only
had their mother around. To all the mothers that were strong enough to raise a boy to be a man, I
commend you. However, I was very fortunate to have both parents in my household. I would like
to thank my father for showing me what a hardworking man truly is, for teaching me how to be

something for doing what I was supposed to do, he would tell me that God's reward for me being
responsible is even greater. My father continually stressed to me that when you work hard for the
money, there is always a greater reward at the end. Finally, I thank my father for teaching me that
a real man works hard for his money. My father always said if a person takes the easy route to get
money, that person won't appreciate anything. I didn't understand what my father meant by that
until I got older. Seeing people sell drugs to get money, I noticed that those people didn't care how
the money was spent. I would see those people buying clothes, which were ridiculously expensive;
like five or six hundred dollar shirts. These guys had no clue about how to work hard for their
money, so they didn't care how fast it was spent. Then I saw a hard working man who cherished
every dime he worked for. In the end, what my father was trying to teach me was that there are
benefits for those that work hard, and none for those that don't. In conclusion, I thank my father for
being there to teach me how to be a hardworking man, the importance of being responsible, and how
nothing comes easily.

Father Involvement In African Americans
Literature review
Father involvement
There is a lot of research done on the reasons for early sexuality in African American women.
Though there is no single factor that causes early sexual activity, many attribute it to the absence
of strong father figure, this is addressed in a study done by Vicki Ellison Burns, "Living without a
strong father figure: A context for teen mothers' experience of having becoming sexually active".
Burns cited Ellis et al. (2003), father absence was a powerful and overriding risk factor for
early–onset sexual activity and subsequent teen pregnancy. Father presence provided a major
protective effect against these behaviors, even when other risk factors were present. In Ellison's
study, she obtained data by interviewing...show more content...
Often times the young African American mothers end up being young African American single
mothers. The father's involvement impacts many aspects of young African American mothers'
parenting. In a study by Cynthia O Lashley, Sydney L Hans, and Linda G Henson "Young African
American mothers' changing perceptions of their infants during the transition into parenthood",
Lashley et al. included research from McElroy & Moore stating "although most African American
teenage mothers are not married to their children's fathers, there is great variability in the patterns of
involvement young men have with their families". According to Gee and Rhodes, Fathers are
usually more involved close after birth, however involvement decreases as the child gets older
(Lashley 482). Because the young parents are not married and the pregnancies are often unplanned
there is a lot of strain on their couple relationship and the relationship could diminish due to the
stress of parenthood, making it easier for the father to be non–present in the child's

Life Without My Dad
It was June 1917 when I had to say goodbye to my dad. We knew that the war was going on in
Europe but we didn't know the extent of it until just a few months ago. When I had to say
goodbye to my dad I didn't know if it was going to be the last time I saw him or not. I didn't know
how life was going to work, I had so many questions. How were we going to make enough money
to survive? Who was going to take care of the rest of the kids? Will I have to take care of them
because I'm the oldest? All of these questions were going through my mind and they were
questions that not even my parents knew the answer to. I didn't know if anybody knew the
answers, so I began to answer them myself. I said well I'll stay home and play the role of my mom
while Mom goes out to work. I'll get my brothers and sisters up for school because Mom would
already be off to work. Then I would send the rest of the kids off for school while I stayed back and
did the things my mother would do. The first year or so that dad was gone things were far from
what I would say was the "norm", for my siblings and me at least. We didn't eat as much as we did
when my dad was at home, but we still had enough for three kids everyday. My brother, sister, and
I's lives did not change to drastically, but my mom's sure did. My mom had to start working long
hours and she would still have to do everything around the house that she did before my dad left. I
decided that I would start to help mom with dishes and get supper ready before she got home. I
was left in a very hard situation and I didn't know what to do. When my dad was still home I
would always go to him with my problems, but with him at war I didn't know what I was supposed
to do. All that I knew was that I needed to help.
In early 1918 I got my first job as a weapon maker. There was such a huge demand for weapons
during this time because of the war. I thought that this job was perfect because I could help my family
at home with the money and I could have possibly helped my dad with the weapons that I had
made. The first day of my job was tough, but it wasn't just my first day at the job, it had been the
first day for a lot of other girls my age. I was only fifteen years old

often a lack of communication between parents and their children. Although parental love is
always present, children often misunderstand or are unaware of their parent's love for them,

father had never forgotten that day; the two of them sitting together in the sand and expressing
their love for each other. Ultimately, this story reveals that love is not always expressed verbally.
The penny is the symbol of love and dream between Peter and his father. In the second story, "A
Secret Lost in the Water," written by Roch Carrier, who is also the protagonist of this short story.
He explores the importance of tradition in relation to formal 'schoolbook' knowledge. His father
was an expert in finding fresh water source by using a mere alder branch. His father also tried to
pass this skill to his son; however, as the son grows up and become old, the son forgets the life
lesson he was once taught. When he is given an opportunity to remember the talent passed down by
his father in his early childhood, he struggles to perform the secret. As he struggles to hear the
gushing water and the branch to writhe, a fellow farmer says, "Nowadays, fathers can't pass on
anything to the next generation." This quote is very powerful, because it directly points to the moral
of the story: not all fathers can pass talents to the sons. In addition, the farmer too experiences this
reality, for he has the finest farm in the area, and his children did not want to inherit the farm which
their father spent his whole life

Essay about Single Fatherhood
Single Fatherhood
Single fathers are a minority. They are rare, but growing rapidly as more and more people can
fathom a father being able to satisfy the needs of his children. Single fathers are not given sole
custody without a fight. A much harder one than what a Mother would have to endure. Normally,
custody is given to the mother. Lately, however, fathers are starting to care more about their
childrens best interests, and are begining to fight against the sterotypes society has dealt them.
Being the child of a single father, I have heard the stories. For 17 years I have heard the stories. But
could society have been so blind? No. The courts could have, though. Statistics I have collected
showed that even when both...show more content...
Society seems to have a gap between the image of fathers and the actual role of fathers.
Now, the fastest growing family unit in the United States are single fathers with sole custody of
children under the age of 18. In 1970, there were 393,000 single fathers with sole custody. That
number jumped to 1.9 million in 1996. Of these numbers, 48% are divorced, 28% were never
married, 18% were seperated, and 5% are widowed. underlying this gradual shift is the attitude more
and more people are taking towards men and womens societal roles. Along with being more career
oriented, women are starting to feel less guilty about losing custody to their partner, and are finding
that they aren't always the more suitable parent. At the same time, men are no longer feeling such a
strong need to be defined by their job. Also, fathers fear that once they are divorced, they will
rarely see their kids, and do not want to be part–time parents.
Father–by–default families are another contributing factor to the shift. In this case, the mothers were
either not found, or had drug–addiction or alcohol dependency problems, and child welfare agencies
sought the fathers. This is most prominent in poverty stricken families. Single father adoption
numbers have jumped significantly as well thanks to gay fathers rights groups, and political pressure
from the gay community.

Essay on My Family: My Father
As I long I will be alive, my father would stay in my heart and thoughts. Every time I see my face,
I can see some of his physical features through the mirror. He not only is my biologic father, but
also my inspiration in my life. He constantly inspires me to put efforts in my impossible dreams.
In return, I want to prove him myself and how capable I can be. With his personality, his role, and
his unquestionable generosity, my father is a man who influences me the most. My father's
personality is not extraordinary or amazing, on the other hand, one of the simplest one I ever know.
You don't have to be fantastic like a superhero to be recognized by the ones you love. With my dad's
outgoing attitude, you would be surprise that a middle...show more content...
However, my father would stay strong during crucial times at work for his family and himself. My
father is a man of respect. I admire him as his first and oldest daughter. No matter how mad or
silly my sisters and I would get, he would be the peacemaker in the family. Let's say that my
sisters and I like to have fun at home. We have so much fun that we end up to be incredibly loud.
Anyway, my dad can't stand us laughing out loud and acting like savages at all. He would just
break us apart to stop our noisy silliness. Sometimes I think my dad is over–protective. I think this
way because when my grand–father died. He couldn't tell me straight in the face. He didn't know
how I would react with the bad news. So, my mother told me the horrible news. Maybe he didn't
want to tell me since he would admit that my grand–pa died.
What I truly believe is that his desire toward his children is to appreciate somebody for what they
are and not their possessions or status. Just to think about the idea, it is unimaginable to me. I don't
know how people can support each other if they don't enjoy themselves together. The truth is that my
parents married each other due to their love not for anything' else. I don't think my sisters can
conclude this from my parents since they're younger than me. It feels like I am the only one who can
comprehend my father's intention. I wish my sisters

Father Essays

  • 1. My Life With My Father Essay The One Week That Will Last a Lifetime Isn 't it funny how fast life can seem to pass by? Often we are so caught up in the daily actions of the world that we miss certain things in the meantime. As if we all have infinite time to do infinite things with the people that we carry dearly in our hearts every single day. Life as we know however, is not always this beautiful. I found this outthe hard way by losing my father, and falling into a depression I struggle with everyday. I had a very interesting and in what most cases I consider myself to be a "modern" type of relationship with my father. My parents had divorced when I was a child, I would go with my mom on weekdays, and my dad on weekends. Most of the time. In the year 2013 my dad, because of the health of my grandmother was forced to move to Grand Junction. While 16 at the time, I knew that this was indeed something he needed to do. This only made our time together less frequent than it was already was. I was a very peculiar son however, I loved my parents there was never any question of that fact. Due to the little time I got to spend with my father however, I always felt as if our relationship never evolved to the biggest it could be. After graduating high school last year, there was a new sense of commitment in myself however. I was about to get a car and soon would be able to travel to and from Grand Junction at my own discretion and that couldn't have excited me more. Finally, a chance to get that relationship Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Father and Son Essay In the story father and son who do you feel more sympathy for. This story is set in Northern Ireland about a Father and a son in which recently the mother and wife has died. The son moves temporarily to London but his dad brings him back after what seems to be trouble with drugs. The father and son do not get along with each other the father tries to get his sons respect but doesn't succeed. At the end the son is killed and the story is left there leaving us with the suspicion of who killed him. The son's relationship with his father is a very poor one. At the start of the story we see that he avoids speaking to his father by pretending to be asleep. "I will sleep for him". The son is angry with his father for taking him...show more content... The Son doesn't think that his father can take care of himself. The son is disgusted how his father depends on Valium aprescription drug he is on. "A breakfast of two Valium and the rest of them rattling in your pocket" The Father loves his son but can't seem to get his son to love him. They used to get on well when the mother was still alive but the death blew their relationship apart. The father worries about his son. As his son has been in trouble he had to help him out of it. The father wants his son to love him again "My son is breaking my heart". The father tries his best for his son but in some cases he can't understand that it isn't his son's fault that he's gone downhill in life. The father just thinks that his son doesn't care about life anymore and that's what can be caused by the death of a family member. If they meant a lot to you life can seem pointless. The father does not seem to leave the son to his own devices he seems to worry so much that he has to know everything about what he's doing. Bernard Mclaverty the author gets the readers sympathy by giving both sides of the stories one for the father and one for the son he uses a writing technique called alternating first person narration. So you see the son's thoughts and feelings then you get the father's thoughts and feelings. Sympathy first arrives for both parties when the reader learns that the Mother and Wife of the family have recently died. The father is given Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Childhood Memories of My Father As I prayed in the dimly lit church, the swirling smoke arising from incense took my mind back to my childhood years. The golden rays from the sun during the sunset hour did not seem as resplendent, bright, and cheerful as they usually were. The warm late afternoon air got cooler with the soft winds. The cool tropical breezes always brought healing and yielded a new desire to live despite all the problems. Sundown was on its way and summoning many birds to their lovely nests. He was worried and felt for my temperature on my forehead whenever I coughed or took a deep sigh. Whenever he felt my head wa s sweaty and feverish, he would immediately flip lights on and tiptoe to grab a thermometer. He gently asked me to open my mouth, so he could measure my temperature. While waiting for the thermometer to register, my father used a towel to wipe off my swea t with worry. Then "Beep...beep..." my temperature read 104 degrees. "I must take you to the hospital now," he said. He hardly slept a wink during my illness. His eyes grew wide open and glistened with happiness when I got better. Coming home after a few days in the hospital, I was surprised to find my father welcomed me home with fragrant and dazzling violet carnation decorating my room.. This flower and its color are symbols for love and faithfulness. That was our favorite flower. I especially liked it for its smell, but my father liked its color. I didn't understand why he was so obsessed with such a melancholy color. When I was a little girl, he taught me how to draw. One day, I drew a violet carnation and showed it to him. He praised me, "It is very nice. You did a good job." He made me feel like I was a fine artist. I was happy and gave him a hug. He always encouraged me and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. A Father's Love Essay A Father's Love I lived in the city with my father. Recently, I bought a new house which is light, large and comfortable. But since we lived in the new house, my father always had been tired. He was often sleeping in bed, loudly snoring in the day. The snore that reverberated in the whole new house made me unable to focus on my work and I couldn't sleep well. Because I was a freedom contributor who sometimes worked in the night and sometimes slept in the daytime. Because I wanted to earn the money to live, pay off the debt and buy the new house. I had an occupational disease of neurasthenia, so I needed a quiet situation for resting and working. And also I was afraid that he maybe had some...show more content... It made me so tired. Is it undue that I needed a quiet situation? The next afternoon, I had been asleep until four o'clock. When I woke up I felt the house was so quiet. I didn't hear any snoring, so I went to my father's room, but my father was not in. I thought maybe he went out to meet his friends to play cards with them. I always hoped that he could go out to do something to relieve his weariness. Although I complained with my father, my father could understand me. Everyday my father came back in time and cooked for me. Then he would go out again. One day, I asked my father what did he do and where he wanted to go. My father answered "No, nothing." And then went out. When he came back again, I said, "You should take care of yourself, and eat something nutritious." Because I felt that my father was getting thinner than before. But his skin became whiter. And my father told me that he was healing and strong, he was fine. Although I still worried about him, I didn't say any more words. I thought maybe I was suspicious, but at last I knew that, in fact, I was careless with my father and blamed him wrongly. At the end of the year, I was invited to write a report by my friend's manager. As thanks, the manager invited my friend and me to have a dinner. After dinner, we went to a big bathroom together. • 5. Personal Narrative: My Father's Death Essay My father passed away in 1991, two weeks before Christmas. I was 25 at the time but until then I had not grown up. I was still an ignorant youth that only cared about finding the next party. My role model was now gone, forcing me to reevaluate the direction my life was heading. I needed to reexamine some of the lessons he taught me through the years. One of the earliest memories I have of my father is when he would take me to the park and we would play baseball. My father was eager to teach me everything he knew about the game, and I was eager to learn. He took it easy on me at first, allowing me to overcome my fear of being hit by the ball. Each time we went back to the park he would throw the ball a little harder. It was not long...show more content... I began to rebel and grades were no longer as important to me as they were to my father. My grades slipped to a C average, and that was not good enough. Instead of getting upset, my father encouraged me to apply myself. It took a couple of years, but he made me realize the importance of school, and that I only had one shot at doing it right. I graduated high school in the top ten percent of my class, thanks to my father. As I entered my teen years, my father expected more out of me than just being a good student. Dad always seemed to have projects going on around the house, and I became his helper. It did not matter what the project was, he always seemed to need my help and I was not happy about that. I had better things to do than wasting a weekend working around the house. Somehow my dad knew how to do everything and felt it was his job to teach all of it to me. I was a teenager and had all of the knowledge I would ever need, so I thought. As it turned out, most of the skills I obtained helping my father led me to a rather lucrative career in manufacturing a few years later. Dad was a very stable man, holding the same job at an office furniture retailer for 25 years. In 1985 he decided to take a chance and open his own furniture business, a retail store that competed for sales with the very store where he spent most of his life working. • 6. Narrative Essay About My Father My father was gone before I was born, and was absent in a crucial period of time in my life. It affected me in the aspect of becoming a man, and the idea of two people coming together as one. A single mother is one of the hardest situations known to man, and knowing that my father put my mother through this predicament upsets me to my core. I don't remember much about the stories my family told about my father, but I do know that I struggled without a father figure. Though my dad ended up in my life, he still left a hole in crucial moments of my childhood. My mom had two jobs, and went to school full time. She was the hardest working women I have ever seen. Credit goes to my mother for being that example of hard work, and dedication. With that being said, I remember walking in on my mom helplessly sobbing while holding a couple pieces of paper in her hand. I realized that they were bills, and we were falling behind somehow. I didn't understand the whole situation, but all I could think of was my father. If he were here we would have more money, and with the help of another adult it could take a lot of the duties, and stress off my mother. I was in search for that manly role model to teach me the basics of becoming a gentlemen. Someone to look up too, and find interest in the the things that I enjoyed. Don't get me wrong, I loved the fact that my mom tried, and succeed for the most part. Their is just somethings that the dad has to go through with his son, like a mother Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Essay on The Impact of Absent Fathers Absent Fathers Rough Draft For various reasons, many children in the United States are living without their fathers in their homes or absent from their lives entirely. This is an issue all across the world and the children are having to deal with the disadvantages caused by the lack of support from their fathers. This issue has a significant effect on society and can be viewed and interpreted from the three sociological perspectives. As a result of many studies, it was found that children raised in father absent homes almost universally experience disadvantages such as: worse health, poorer academic achievement, and a less enjoyable educational experience. There are many variables that need to be taken into effect when considering...show more content... 63 percent of households with an income of $25,000 or less are fatherless, and only 18 percent of households with an income of $75,000 or higher. Almost identical statistics apply to less than high school credentials versus a bachelor's or graduate education. 62% of parents that have less than a high school education are raising children without their father, and only 22% of parents with a bachelor's degree and 18% of parents with a graduate degree are living in the same situation (DeBell 2008.) A correlation can be drawn here between education/income and percentage of fatherless households. Generally speaking, as education increases, so will income. As income increases, the percentage of fatherless children and households decreases. However, it could be argued that the income of the household will decrease when the father is gone and not contributing to the finances. Though children without their fathers may not always be disadvantaged by his absence, statistics clearly show that as a whole, children in America are not benefitted by the lack of a father. The same study conducted in 2003 showed that academic achievement is largely affected by fatherlessness. Seven percent of children living with their father have ever repeated a grade in school, that number raises to sixteen percent in children without their father. 49 percent of children Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Dreams from My Father Essay Essay: Dreams From My Father Barack Obama's Dreams From My Father is exactly what it claims to be by title, a story of race and identity. Barack Obama comes from a diverse background, which he explores throughout the book. Having a white American mother and black Kenyan father, he has a different experience than the majority of people in society when it comes to race and identity, however still it seems similar to the experience of many blacks as described in William E. Cross's Black Psychological theory, the Nigresence Model of Racial Identity Development. While Obama's experience does not necessarily occur in chronological order according to Cross's model, in my opinion, it portrays a good example of how someone enters each stage of...show more content... At this stage, it is suggested that an individual sees him or herself as part of the entire human family, proud to be black, but not limited to blackness. The individual sees people only as people, not as black people, or white people, etc. Furthermore, one thing that pertains particularly to Barack, in my opinion, is that individuals in this stage enjoy regular company of a wide array of people and most importantly fight for a wide array of causes, which are not specific to race. Getting to this place was a journey for Obama just as it is for all others, in my opinion. My perception of the encounter, for Barack, was neither horribly negative, nor very positive. He was simply lost, it seemed. As a young child attending a prestigious school in Hawaii, Barack Obama was cared for by his white American mother and grandparents, but was a brown child, having also a black Kenyan father. Barack was an outcast for everyone, being secluded from the whites because of his look, and having a different outlook than other black students at his school who held the view that they were oppressed by white people. It was far from sensible that the people who loved, cared for, and supported him the most could oppress Barack. Curiosity was inevitable for the boy, however, and led him into what William E. My Father: the Person I Admire Most Essays My Father: The Person I Admire Most Over time, there have been several people who have influenced various aspects of my life, based on their personal characteristics, accomplishments, and values. I have been privileged to have had numerous teachers and professors who I respect for their patience and intelligence. There are artists that have inspired me by their natural talents and original creativity. I value many political leaders, who have inspired me by their contributions to society, and their ability to change our futures. Of all the people I have encountered in my life, the person I admire most is my father. As the youngest girl in my family, I always considered myself to be "Daddy's little girl." No matter how tired he was from his long work week, he would be up bright and early Saturday morning to attend any of our sporting events, tournaments, or recitals, and then chauffeur us and our friends to slumber parties or school dances. He was always very protective and kept a watchful eye over us. My father's protectiveness and selflessness generated at a young age for him. He is the ninth of twelve children, and often told us stories of how he had to look after, and practically raise his three younger siblings after my grandfather had passed. He made certain they completed their chores around my grandmother's farm, maintained good hygiene practices, and kept up with their schoolwork. School was extremely important to my father, because he knew an education was the only way he could be successful. Proudly, he finished high school at the age of sixteen, but could not follow the footsteps of his older brothers and join the military, because he was too young. Therefore, he decided to continue his studies. The completion of his degree in biology was bittersweet. He was the first and the only one in his family to have graduated from college, however, there were not a lot of opportunities for a young African–American male in 1957, in small town Alabama. After taking few odd jobs, he decided to enlist in the military. My father had encountered many challenges in his life, but one of his toughest was seeking to date my mother. • 10. The Role Of A Father 3.0 The Role of a father While both parents are equally important, a father is an instrumental and key figure in the modern family. This is because he is the head of family and more often than not, the chief bread winner in most cases.Other tasks and roles performed by a father are unique and defined basing on the cultural background of the community that he comes from. However, from culture to culture, the fundamental tasks that are required of manhood are basically the same, some of which we are going to look briefly in this paper. A father should always be there for his wife and children to provide the much needed love and support. Showering them with lots of cash does not necessarily indicate love and support. He should be ready to give them an ear, comfort them and spend quality time as well as quantity time with them. This is crucial in creating an emotional tie, a prerequisite for strong and healthy family relationship. The father therefore plays the role of loving and supporting his spouse and offspring. Camon extensively explored the effects of not having a fathers love and support on a child's development (121) The father offers protection and guards the family. Guarding and protecting does not necessarily mean directly confronting and beating up anyone who threatens the family. It simply means that as a father and head of the family, you are reliable and can be counted on by your family when it matters most. It means you that you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. My Relationship With My Father My relationship with my father is complicated. I am a junior in high school and the successes I have accomplished both in the class room and in sports are because he has been pushing me so hard. On the other hand, though, he can be overbearing and controlling at times. Now I am at the stage in my young adult life where I find myself trying to create some distance between us. It is a constant battle trying to strike a balance between becoming my own person and not just the one my father thinks I should be. My father is a fairly senior ranking officer in the military. He is a full colonel in the Army, only one promotion away from being a general. When at work, he is in charge of many soldiers and government civilians and contractors who follow his orders without much choice or questioning. He has worked many jobs at different Army bases, the Pentagon and in Iraq. It is hard to complain too much as his work has provided a pretty good life for me. However, he sometimes brings that military mindset home along with his unrealistically high expectations, and that often creates problems. As his oldest child his expectations for me have always been high. As the proverbial chip off the old block, he always wanted me to attend West Point where he went to college. In some ways I feel like I disappointed him by not wanting to follow in his footsteps. My younger sister has always seemed to be off limits, and I have always envied her not having to deal with him as much. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Father : An Ideal Father Today, fatherlessness can be the cause to the many problems individuals have such as mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse, and poverty. There are two versions of a father, a father incapable of handling the responsibilities, and an ideal father whose efforts are to see his child or children succeed. A father is a man in relation to his natural child or children. An ideal father is an individual who sacrifices, teaches, and supports his child or children. A father in technical terms is an individual who helps to produce a child, however a father is much more than that. An ideal father is someone who accompanies his child through the process of growth. Fathers of past generations were expected simply to help pay the bills and provide discipline for his children but, the current generations of fathers are far more involved in the emotional and physical development of their child. An ideal father engrosses himself in his child's whereabouts, socialization, emotional state, educational progress etc. An ideal father sacrifices certain desires to put their child's future and success first. For example a specific vehicle or a trip somewhere could be postponed because his child wanted to participate in a summer camp. If his child is hurt, his automatic response isn't to "suck it up" or "man up", an ideal father would care to his child's needs and respond with the utmost care and sympathy. Fathers from previous generations were not as involved in their child's schooling or Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 15. Thanks to My Hardworking Father Essay Jose Quiles Prof. J. Robinson Eng 100–F80 August 06, 2009 Thanks to My Hardworking Father It is very fortunate for a kid to have his father around. In the last thirty years, having both parents in the household was rare. Most of my friends I grew up with only had their mother around. To all the mothers that were strong enough to raise a boy to be a man, I commend you. However, I was very fortunate to have both parents in my household. I would like to thank my father for showing me what a hardworking man truly is, for teaching me how to be responsible, and teaching me why it's better to work hard for my money than take the easy route like selling drugs. My father never tried to spoil me, but there was always a lesson to be learned in everything he did for me. If he gave me something for doing what I was supposed to do, he would tell me that God's reward for me being responsible is even greater. My father continually stressed to me that when you work hard for the money, there is always a greater reward at the end. Finally, I thank my father for teaching me that a real man works hard for his money. My father always said if a person takes the easy route to get money, that person won't appreciate anything. I didn't understand what my father meant by that until I got older. Seeing people sell drugs to get money, I noticed that those people didn't care how the money was spent. I would see those people buying clothes, which were ridiculously expensive; like five or six hundred dollar shirts. These guys had no clue about how to work hard for their money, so they didn't care how fast it was spent. Then I saw a hard working man who cherished every dime he worked for. In the end, what my father was trying to teach me was that there are benefits for those that work hard, and none for those that don't. In conclusion, I thank my father for being there to teach me how to be a hardworking man, the importance of being responsible, and how nothing comes easily. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Father Involvement In African Americans Literature review Father involvement There is a lot of research done on the reasons for early sexuality in African American women. Though there is no single factor that causes early sexual activity, many attribute it to the absence of strong father figure, this is addressed in a study done by Vicki Ellison Burns, "Living without a strong father figure: A context for teen mothers' experience of having becoming sexually active". Burns cited Ellis et al. (2003), father absence was a powerful and overriding risk factor for early–onset sexual activity and subsequent teen pregnancy. Father presence provided a major protective effect against these behaviors, even when other risk factors were present. In Ellison's study, she obtained data by interviewing...show more content... Often times the young African American mothers end up being young African American single mothers. The father's involvement impacts many aspects of young African American mothers' parenting. In a study by Cynthia O Lashley, Sydney L Hans, and Linda G Henson "Young African American mothers' changing perceptions of their infants during the transition into parenthood", Lashley et al. included research from McElroy & Moore stating "although most African American teenage mothers are not married to their children's fathers, there is great variability in the patterns of involvement young men have with their families". According to Gee and Rhodes, Fathers are usually more involved close after birth, however involvement decreases as the child gets older (Lashley 482). Because the young parents are not married and the pregnancies are often unplanned there is a lot of strain on their couple relationship and the relationship could diminish due to the stress of parenthood, making it easier for the father to be non–present in the child's Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Life Without My Dad It was June 1917 when I had to say goodbye to my dad. We knew that the war was going on in Europe but we didn't know the extent of it until just a few months ago. When I had to say goodbye to my dad I didn't know if it was going to be the last time I saw him or not. I didn't know how life was going to work, I had so many questions. How were we going to make enough money to survive? Who was going to take care of the rest of the kids? Will I have to take care of them because I'm the oldest? All of these questions were going through my mind and they were questions that not even my parents knew the answer to. I didn't know if anybody knew the answers, so I began to answer them myself. I said well I'll stay home and play the role of my mom while Mom goes out to work. I'll get my brothers and sisters up for school because Mom would already be off to work. Then I would send the rest of the kids off for school while I stayed back and did the things my mother would do. The first year or so that dad was gone things were far from what I would say was the "norm", for my siblings and me at least. We didn't eat as much as we did when my dad was at home, but we still had enough for three kids everyday. My brother, sister, and I's lives did not change to drastically, but my mom's sure did. My mom had to start working long hours and she would still have to do everything around the house that she did before my dad left. I decided that I would start to help mom with dishes and get supper ready before she got home. I was left in a very hard situation and I didn't know what to do. When my dad was still home I would always go to him with my problems, but with him at war I didn't know what I was supposed to do. All that I knew was that I needed to help. In early 1918 I got my first job as a weapon maker. There was such a huge demand for weapons during this time because of the war. I thought that this job was perfect because I could help my family at home with the money and I could have possibly helped my dad with the weapons that I had made. The first day of my job was tough, but it wasn't just my first day at the job, it had been the first day for a lot of other girls my age. I was only fifteen years old Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. The Father-Son Relationship Essay ESLEOY – Essay By Toan Nguyen THE FATHER –SON RELATIONSHIP In family life, there is often a lack of communication between parents and their children. Although parental love is always present, children often misunderstand or are unaware of their parent's love for them, especially the father's love. Fathers often try to keep their strong figure as the head of the households and their love is usually implicit. The three short stories, "Penny in the Dust," by Ernest Buckler, "A Secret Lost in the Water," by Roch Carrier and "Lies My Father Told Me," by Ted Allan all share a similar theme– relationship between fathers and sons. The father–son relationship portrayed in each of these three stories is awkward and distant which...show more content... Peter has mixed emotions when he sees the bright, shiny and new penny. He realizes that his father had never forgotten that day; the two of them sitting together in the sand and expressing their love for each other. Ultimately, this story reveals that love is not always expressed verbally. The penny is the symbol of love and dream between Peter and his father. In the second story, "A Secret Lost in the Water," written by Roch Carrier, who is also the protagonist of this short story. He explores the importance of tradition in relation to formal 'schoolbook' knowledge. His father was an expert in finding fresh water source by using a mere alder branch. His father also tried to pass this skill to his son; however, as the son grows up and become old, the son forgets the life lesson he was once taught. When he is given an opportunity to remember the talent passed down by his father in his early childhood, he struggles to perform the secret. As he struggles to hear the gushing water and the branch to writhe, a fellow farmer says, "Nowadays, fathers can't pass on anything to the next generation." This quote is very powerful, because it directly points to the moral of the story: not all fathers can pass talents to the sons. In addition, the farmer too experiences this reality, for he has the finest farm in the area, and his children did not want to inherit the farm which their father spent his whole life Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Essay about Single Fatherhood Single Fatherhood Single fathers are a minority. They are rare, but growing rapidly as more and more people can fathom a father being able to satisfy the needs of his children. Single fathers are not given sole custody without a fight. A much harder one than what a Mother would have to endure. Normally, custody is given to the mother. Lately, however, fathers are starting to care more about their childrens best interests, and are begining to fight against the sterotypes society has dealt them. Statistics I have collected showed that even when both...show more content... Society seems to have a gap between the image of fathers and the actual role of fathers. Now, the fastest growing family unit in the United States are single fathers with sole custody of children under the age of 18. In 1970, there were 393,000 single fathers with sole custody. That number jumped to 1.9 million in 1996. Of these numbers, 48% are divorced, 28% were never married, 18% were seperated, and 5% are widowed. underlying this gradual shift is the attitude more and more people are taking towards men and womens societal roles. Along with being more career oriented, women are starting to feel less guilty about losing custody to their partner, and are finding that they aren't always the more suitable parent. At the same time, men are no longer feeling such a strong need to be defined by their job. Also, fathers fear that once they are divorced, they will rarely see their kids, and do not want to be part–time parents. Father–by–default families are another contributing factor to the shift. In this case, the mothers were either not found, or had drug–addiction or alcohol dependency problems, and child welfare agencies sought the fathers. This is most prominent in poverty stricken families. Single father adoption numbers have jumped significantly as well thanks to gay fathers rights groups, and political pressure from the gay community. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
