Essay about Love
Love
Love is difficult to define, difficult to measure, and difficult to understand. Love is what great
writers write about, great singers sing about, and great philosophers ponder. Love is a powerful
emotion, for which there is no wrong definition, for it suits each and every person differently.
Whether love is between family, friends, or lovers, it is an overwhelming emotion that can be
experienced in many different ways.
People experience love for the first time by being part of a family. Family love is demonstrated
through lessons of sacrifice, concern and compassion, from the cradle to the grave. There are many
different levels and conditions of family love. It is the love we cherish between our intermediate
family and our...show more content...
A close–knit loving bond between two people can begin with a friendship. Whether it is a friendship
between two males, two females, or one male and one female, these friendships will develop into
love. In no way is it a romantic love, but this type of love connects and bonds friends. Friends may
move away or friendships may wane, but the love between the two people burns on forever.
Romantic love is a love that not every person will experience. It is a type of love that is not there at
the beginning, but grows within the individual. When one finally finds the love they have been
looking for, one can not imagine life with anybody else. Romantic love is a connection between two
souls that is captured with a feeling that is not only felt within the heart but within their body as
well. I have never been in love with a girl; I can only imagine what it might be like to be in love.
Guessing from my sister's relationship with boys, it seems like a big headache instead of a
wonderful feeling.
To simply write a definition of love is complicated because every person has a different perception of
love. The only way to capture the true meaning of love is to experience the feeling and find out
for oneself, what love is. In our lives and the lives of others, love is evident. Whether it is between
family, friends, or lovers, love is a precious

Essay On Romantic Love
Love is an abundant emotion that has different degrees. There is familial love, friendly love,
unconditional love, and of course romantic love. Romantic love will be the superstar of this article.
Romantic love may be around every corner whether between an old couple or a young teenage
romance. However, love is not the easiest thing to attain. It is such a simple concept, though a
difficult thing to actually have a person's hands on.
Most people nowadays will yearn for something more commonly known as true love. True love
can be explained in a sense that it is a person we may or may not consider as a soul mate. It can be
someone we love to a certain degree that we feel happy, complete, and contented.
The definition may be thrown out there in whatever way, but meeting eye to eye with said true love
comes with certain complexity.
In other times, we may be thrown off. What we think could be considered love may not actually be
love.
Though before knowing how to find love, one must know the basics when it comes to the act of
loving in general.
PsychologyToday.com records research on love.
According to said research, vital things to a deep kind of love are physical attraction and a certain
level of intimacy, which follow through with companionship that you feel towards the other person.
The following can lead to difficulty because, in a sense, people of today are inclined towards an
ideal view of romance. People are blinded by what they see in the media and relate whatever

Reflective Essay About Love
Before I begin, love has a substantial meaning to me like the Golden Rule. As a young adult, I
thrive to change the word love. In every century, the word love is frequently overused and it is
prosaic. Over the years, I finally understood that there is no eminent word to substitute love. Trust
me, I had constantly searched across overseas on voyages with your daddy. The wordlove is the only
form of vocal expression that I can assure you my affection towards you. The word love brings me
happiness into my environment. Happiness makes me feel satisfied, contentment, delighted, amused,
bliss, and thrilled. Consequently, I enjoy expressing my love to society because people tend get

I was crazy enough to involve Pedro in my destiny. Overall, the concept of it, just felt right, I
thoroughly thought about our relationship for the future. I came to a realization, if I ever wanted
our relationship to be a committed relationship. It would be best, if we both mature up, continue our
bond as friends. Hopefully one day, Pedro would swept me off my feet.
One great advice, I can give to you is wait for your true love to approach you. The significance of
the person approaching you, just justifies that the person is serious about you and there is a
possibility for a committed relationship. I certainly did, however, in my junior year, I identified
Pedro as my friend and nothing else. My dreams were still present, but I preferred at the time his
friendship over a romantic one.
Throughout that time, I set my mind to work on myself: spiritually and mentally wise. I achieved to
be patience, and be an robust person, by gaining these skills, it gave me contentment within my inner
soul. Overall, this taught me valuable morals and norms directly from every obstacle I stumbled
upon. Such as understanding how to be patience about finishing a book, or learning about my
self–care.
As senior year entered, I was a compassionate and determined woman for my education. I seek for no
man in my life, only my education. Learning gave me satisfaction, it nurtured my mind development.
I was fascinated by all the interesting facts within

Reflective Essay On Love
Have you ever questioned what the definition of love was? Have you ever thought about the true
meaning of love?In the text of Symposium it states that love is a great thing that happens. It states
that love isn't just feelings it can be how you feel health wise and how you connect to something. It
often states that love is a amazing and everyone should experience it. They also say many times that
love can be powerful and sometimes overwhelming but it is okay, because the crazy love is the best
kind. In the text Symposium it states that love is beautiful, love is natural and love shouldn't be
shamed.
Firstly, in symposium is says numerous times that love is beautiful. In the text it says, "Bear in
mind that it is held to be more beautiful to love openly than in secret." According to The Speech of
Pausanias, it says that if you love more openly you will get more out of it then keeping it to
yourself. Also the text states" No one can think it is for the sake of sexual intercourse that the one so
eagerly delighted in being with the other. Instead, the soul of each clearly wishes for something
else it can't put into words; it divines what it wishes, and obscurely hints at." This is saying that it
may not be the body that wants intercourse but it may be the soul that truly wants it. Lastly, the
text states, " For it is necessary to be able to make the most inimical elements in the body friendly
and love each other. But the most inimical are the most opposite: cold to hot, bitter to sweet, dry
to wet, all such as that; it is by knowing how to instill Eros and unanimity that our progenitor
Asclepius, as these poets here say and I myself, established our art." This is saying that loving
someone doesn't mean you are exactly alike but you are compatible, you complement each other.
It also says that dangerous love is okay, having dangerous love is not only beautiful but in fact it is
like a piece of art that is unique. There are only so many loves in television history that are
beautiful. The one that is beautiful is Derek and Meredith in Grey's Anatomy, they were perfect for
each other. They never had any arguments, they cared deeply for each other and they complimented
each other. So not only is love beautiful but it

Essay On Love Of My Life
Most people live throughout their lives without meeting with soul mate. Luckily, I'm not one of
them. I fell in love at first sight. I recently moved to the village to learn magic from a famous
wizard sage. I went exploring to get familiar with the place and I somehow wondered into the forest
This is where I met the love of my life and I saw the most beautiful creature I have ever laid eyes on.
She was sleeping under a big oak tree with a book on her chest and like a creep I hid behind a tree
and watching over her in case any wild beasts comes to disturb her. As years goes by I used up all
my luck and charm trying to win her over. It was a difficult battle, but she was worth it. Eventually,
she and I both fell deeply in love and got married.
Our life was going great and I we were expecting a baby. Unfortunately, I discovered my wife has a
heart illness while I was performing a magic task my master had given me. I found out my wife
would only have a few months left to live not even enough time to give birth to our child. I was
devastated. I wanted her to give birth and raise him or her together, to watch our child grow old
and to die together. I didn't have the heart to tell her of her illness. She would be devastated and it
would deteriorate her health further. There's a rumor going around in my village about a famous
healer named Feronia who could supposedly heal and cure all things. I decided to travel to the east
continent where the healer lives and ask

Love in Poetry Essay
Love in Poetry
There are endless ways in which love can be portrayed and occur. There are numerous types of
love, whether it's physical, emotional or romantic love. I intend to expand upon and highlight the
various ways in which love an loss is portrayed in 5 selected poems: John Clare's 'First
Love', John Keats' 'La Belle Dame Sans Merci', Robert Browning 'My Last
Duchess' and Christina Rossetti's two poems 'Birthday' and
'Remember'. All of the poets portray love the concept of love or loss or both in relation to some;
they all attempt to capture and express the presence of love and loss in the closest way possible.
In ?First Love?, the poet (John Clare) situates his poem as if telling a story. The story of a young boy

Since the moment the poet–to–be set eyes on this fairy tail princess like figure; Clare is paralysed
due to the over load of emotion which has overcome him and of such a level experienced for the
first time, almost as if he is under a spell:
?My legs refused to walk away.?
The poet carries on to say ?Words from my eyes did start;? as if due to the overload of emotion
running through his body paralyzing him and making him dumbfound, the young boy desperately
wants the girls heavenly eyes to meet with his, as if a sign to recognize him and his feelings
towards her. Oblivious to the fact that the young girl still does not recognise his feelings towards
here or his existence as a matter of fact; Clare carries on acknowledging his loss, and simultaneously
emphasizes his undying love towards her and continuers to secretly admire her.
The poet expresses his loss in such a way that the reader feels sympathetic towards him; secretly
admiring and long a woman who does not even know he exists let alone his feelings towards her.
?Are flowers the winters choice??
?Is love?s bed always snow??
these two lines express his feelings of undying love towards his first true love and how he feels he
should have told her how he felt; but alas it is to late, so he puts his feelings in writing in the form
of a poem. The first line expresses his feelings of admiration

Love And War And Love
Everyone has their own views on war and love. They also have their own opinions on a way to go
about these things. These two subjects seem to be completely opposite of each other, but they still
manage to tie in together. They might not be the same thing but in certain scenarios they can be
viewed as the same thing. For example, in some situations love can be considered the same as war.
However, love and war can contradict themselves at the same time to. Sometimes, love can bring
war, but war can also lead people to love. It all depends on what the situation is and how the whole
thing plays out. It can be said that love and war are not that different from each other. Both of them

Howells exclaims, "You thought it would be alright for my George, your George, to kill the sons
of those miserable mothers and the husbands of those girls that you would never see the faces of"
(Howells 1500). Here you can see that by wanting love, it turned everything into war. A literal and
figurative war to be exact. The tragedy of George's death turned the love of his mother and
girlfriend into a war. Instead of grieving for the deceased man they turn the blame on each other,
which is a very common thing in war.
As stated before, George was manipulated into enlisting in the military by Editha. Although, he
did give the greatest sacrifice one could ever do for a loved one. George was never interested in
joining the war, but Editha figured the only way she could marry him was if he was to join and
do something heroic for her. "Gearson is obviously troubled when he comes to tell Editha that
war has been declared. Puzzled by 'his want of seriousness about it ' and by his ' making light of a
cause so high and noble ', she fears that Gearson lacks 'earnestness at the core of his being ', a
defect she feels confident she can correct by her ' love. Because Gearson is skeptical of the
romantic justification of the war which Editha believes so unquestioningly, he is paralyzed by
uncertainty. He wants to act decisively but has no clear position from which to act" (Crowley 210).
Here, you can tell that George was not very interested in going to fight a war, but Editha

Essay about What is Love?
What is love? The type of love I'm describing is the one that gives you butterflies when a certain
person comes to mind. Just seeing that particular person can be enough to make one smile and
make your day and all the worries go away. Right now that person comes to mind. It's neither a crush
nor infatuation and many are willing to do anything for this thing that is called love. Love can hurt in
the long run, and people can also be blinded by it. Those who are ready to be loved have to ask
themselves if there are emotionally ready for. Many people put up walls to guard their "heart" from
being hurt again. Love teaches us many lessons. We use those lessons in our future relationships. We
don't want to make the same mistakes. Lastly, love...show more content...

time to heal. We build walls to protect us from being hurt again. I also learn that love is color
blind. When we're truly in love with the person we see beyond color or it doesn't matter because
that person accepts that person for whom they are. When we love those that a different culture from
us we see beyond those imperfections. It's hard to describe 'love' through the sense. When we

Love through the sense of touch is when they you or putting their arms around you when you are

we experience love through the sense of smell when you're used to a certain aroma from that

ways you can incorporate the five senses without you even knowing it.

Essays in Love
Essays in Love is a novel about two young people, who meet on an airplane between London and
Paris and rapidly fall in love. The structure of the story isn't unusual, but what lends the book its
interest is the extraordinary depth with which the emotions involved in the relationship are analysed.
Love comes under the philosophical microscope. An entire chapter is devoted to the nuances and
subtexts of an initial date. Another chapter mulls over the question of how and when to say 'I love
you'. There's an essay on how uncomfortable it can be to disagree with a lover's taste in shoes and a
lengthy discussion about the role of guilt in love.

What is Love? Essay
Love, Love, Love. We all think about it, dream about it, sing about it, and even lose sleep
worrying about it, but why? Love is such a small word paired with a vital meaning. It's universal,
easy to spell, difficult to define, but impossible to live without. When we don't have it, we search
for it, when we find it, we don't know what to do with it, when we have it, we fear losing it. Love is
the constant source of happiness and sorrow. I am young and I haven't a clue as to what love is, let
alone what falling in love is. However, I have my ideas of what love is like. I have never witnessed
the beauty of people falling in love, or the severity of those falling out of love, so what is love?

I think falling in love with someone happens when you least expect it to, when you're too busy
focusing on other aspects of your life. This is where fate comes into play. That specific person
was led to you for some unknown reason. Out of the blues, it's like your knight in shining amour
that you have longed to be with finally found his/her way to you. There are people in this world
that think they may never fall in love again. You fall at times, but you get back up. You will love
again, and you will also trust again. You have to simply let things get themselves done, that's when
you know it's meant to be, because destiny took its course, and while you were too busy doing
something else, the love of your life came along.
Love dates way back to when the world began. In reality, we really have no idea what love truly is.
Raising questions like, is it even real? We watch love movies, read romance novels, but that's the
sugar–coated, sweet and simple version of it. Meeting someone, fall in love, get married, have
kids, spend the rest of your lives together. What about the suffering we have to endure when falling
in love? Risking everything for that one person? And even when we feel we've reached the end of
the road, this person has the power to leave us at any given moment. We put ourselves out there with
the chance they can break us apart.

Love is Worth the Inevitable Pain
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is not the typical Hollywood love film. A Hollywood love
film is a film where a couple gets together in the end and lives happily ever after, but this is a love
story that shows the reality of love and the consequences that come with it. Love is not one hundred
percent bliss, it also comes with pain. To get rid of this pain after a break up or death a company,
Lacuna, has invented a way to erase people from their memory. The two main characters in the
movie fall in love and then they both decide to erase each other from their memories. Clementine,
Kate Winslet, erases Joel, Jim Carrey, because she becomes bored with their relationship....show

It gives me this feeling because she...................This picture shows what Joel pictures her as a little
girl. He sees her as being a completely innocent child, and that is the way that he wants to
remember her. The camera then pans across about ten dolls while it is out of focus until it reaches
the ugly doll, that was also named Clementine, and then it focuses and zooms in on it. Clementine
tells Joel that she would yell at the doll to try and make it prettier, and she for some reason
believed that if the doll became prettier then she would too. The fact that Clementine is telling Joel
about the doll in this intimate moment is that it makes her seem vulnerable and in need to Joel's
affection. The camera then goes to a close up of Clementine just in time to see Joel begin to kiss her.
As they are kissing Joel repeatedly calls Clementine pretty, and she says "Joel, don't ever leave me." I
think this is the pinnacle of their relationship, this is the most intimate and emotional shot in the
entire movie where they both are completely content with each other. This also shows that they need
each other even through the times that they may not be happy with each other.
The scene takes a drastic change when the next shot shows Joel crawling desperately on the ground
in complete darkness except for the light fixed on the middle of the screen.

Love Poems
Have the love poems, you have read given you a better insight into the emotion of love?
The subject of 'Love Poetry' has given rise to some of the most beautiful and fascinating poetry. The
poets illustrate their feelings, or the feelings of the people concerned with them through the use of
figurative language. Alove poem is not necessarily a poem about romantic love, about romance,
marriage and commitment; it could be something else entirely. It seems to be Universal.
Timeless. Yet, it's also very individual, filtered by our own lives and expectations. Love can be a
different thing for each one of us. Not all love poems deal with happy positive sides of love but

'do not grieve' , she does not want her lover to feel that her love is possessive, she does not want
him to feel guilty. She wants him to cherish good times that they had, 'forget and smile'.
The tone throughout is melancholy and emotional as the poet talks about her approaching death. The
sonnet form is suitably used because the poet is telling her husband on how death will take over
their love. She accepts death in a philosophical manner. Although she is physically dead she wants to
be remembered.
Christina Rossetti shows us how death can bring a blissful relationship to an end, but she also
shows that love can exist even after death if it has withstood the test of time. She repeats the title
'remember' throughout the poem as a technique to emphasize that she really wants to be
remembered. Poet Rossetti wants to be remembered by her love even if 'darkness and corruption

Here a poem by Christina Rossetti's, 'A Birthday', is a contrast to
'Remember'. Throughout this poem Rossetti expresses happy contented feelings, through her
beautiful use of imagery. Nature imagery is used in the first half of the poem, ' heart is like a

The title 'A Birthday' is not represented with love at all, but as we read the poem, we come to know
that 'A Birthday' is new life, because she is in love. We see how love makes a person radiant and
blissful.

Essay Three Types of Love
Three types of love: eros, philos and agape.
Love is a concept that one can explain with many different words. It is very easy to tell the
definition of love but difficult to live in the real life. Love is something that is intrinsically in our
nature. One can definite love, but one cannot dictate how, when and where love expresses itself.
Plato, an old Greek philosopher describes three types of love in his book the Banquet. All of these
classifications of love do happen in the human world, although every single person shows how
they differ greatly in his or her life. In that Greek language, love can be classified as eros, philos, or
agape. Each one depends upon the relationship of the people experiencing the love.
In the first...show more content...
Philos, the second of the three classifications of love in Greek language and philosophy, is more
commonly called fraternal love. However, this does not mean that the relationships formed from
it only happen among males, females or in biological families. Instead, philos signifies a sense of
affiliation formed by sharing one's life deeply with whomever one chooses. This could be a life
partner or simply a good friend that the person has come to trust. To someone outside the philos
style relationship, it could look a lot like eros when a man and a woman become that close, but as
long as those in the friendship know and don't exceed their own limits, philos love can continue
to unite them as platonic brother and sister for far longer than others expect. For instance, there is
a book in the Bible that refers to this kind of love and says: "Whoever finds one friend has found
a treasure" (Sirach 5:14). Some people prefer to say that the first love that someone feels is the
philos love; nevertheless, philos comes in a higher level because one has to purify the first attraction
to another person, purify the simple erotic love, and mutate it to something more transcendental. But
there must not be eros love in order to feel the philos love. Many people experience fluctuating
degrees of this

My First Love Essay
Having a first love can change your life for the better in so many ways. My first love did that and
much more. The best part of it I didn't expect any of it. The first time I was introduced to her I
was working at a place called smoothie king. I remember her walking in she was stunning
basically, breath taking. I've never seen anyone as gorgeous as her. When she first walked in the
first thing I noticed was her long slick hair and a smile of an angel. Her eyes where amazing as a
result I would just get lost in them. The crazy part was I've never felt that way for anyone else. I
would just get this pulsing rushing feeling throughout my whole body. If someone could actually
give me that feeling I knew they were precious. So, I started to talk to her more and I really felt
this strong connection forming between us. The more we hanged out the more my life became
great. Just being around her and the things, we did I felt my life heading in a direction that was
so perfect. Having that feeling that someone appreciates you was so valuable to me. I started to
see myself through someone else's eyes wondering what I could do to be a better person. That's
exactly what I did. I saw myself being more grateful and understanding. There were also things
I've always wanted to do in my life but I could never do because I was either unhappy or didn't
have someone to do it with therefore with her I was able to do all of it. She really did change my
life for the better and I can't thank her enough. My first love really did make me feel like I wanted
to go out and experience the world like I've never have before. Even something so small like
going skating was huge for me. Our first date we actually, went skating. That night made me
realize even having someone there with you while you do something fun and that you both like
is an experience I will never forget and cherish till this day. I was full of joy and excitement of
how much bonding we were doing. I was never so giving but I caught myself buying everything
that night when I usually wont. We skated for hours trying to impress each other with fancy skate
tricks. She made me feel so different but in a good way. I felt like I would absorb all her likings. She

Shakespeares View on Love Essay
Shakespeare's View on Love
Shakespeare's plays are very drastic with how he ties love into them. Shakespeare always adds
comedy or tragedy to any romance that might be taking place. For example in Twelfth Night, As
You like It and Romeo and Juliet there is romance but he also puts comedy in there solove is not that
easy. In the play Othello he makes it into a tragedy which makes the love even harder to take

Rosalind proves that love is a source of incomparable delight.
Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous love stories written in the English literary tradition.
Love is the plays most important and dominate theme. This is one of the few Shakespearean plays
that focus on romantic love. An example of the romantic love is the intense passion that springs
up at first sight between Romeo and Juliet. I feel that in Romeo and Juliet love is an ecstatic,
overpowering force. Love takes over all other emotions that a person can feel. Throughout the
play, Shakespeare made the young lovers life difficult because of their social worlds that were
built around their own two families that are also enemies. The Capulet's and Montague's do not
want their children together. Romeo is supposed to be madly in love with Rosaline while Juliet
is supposed to be marrying Paris. Juliet says "deny thy father and refuse thy name, or if thou wilt
not be but sworn my love, /and I'll no longer be a Capulet;" referring to the fact that she is giving
up her family name because of her love for Romeo. Love has a powerful nature that is seen in
ways that it is described. Sometimes in Shakespeare, love is described in having a religion aspect
with it. In Romeo and Juliet, love is a brutal and powerful emotion that has captured many
individuals. Shakespeare has it so this beautiful romantic play comes to an end

Why Do You Love You Essay
All Of You
When you love someone, you have to love someone whole.
You can never love bits and parts of someone and say "I love you."
When you tell someone you love them, you are speaking to their whole being.
You are saying "I love YOU," which tells me that you can't fullylove a person in parts.
The highest form of love knows all of the deep roots of the person and loves them anyway, forgives
them anyway, and accepts them as they are anyway.
Love is when nothing is hidden, when you accept the other's soul, fully, with no judgment.
That is the only way love can never die.

our power to find everything, but love. We search for fulfillment in temporary things. Love is way
deeper than the surface. It is much deeper than something that comes and goes. I am not sure what
it is, but I know what it is not. Love thrives in the foundation of its roots, and you cannot create it if
you don't search for its layers deep in the soil–way beyond what is seen. You are always, always

and divide my soul, giving parts of it to different people. I would never be fulfilled. Love never left.

Essay On Love Languages
Love Languages
Today, I will be explaining the five basic forms of love languages. They are: physical touch, act of
service, words of affirmation, quality time, and receiving gifts. They each represent different
characteristics of love people use in a relationship. Some may be used more than others. This is
depending on the type of person you are as well as, the person you are in a relationship with. They
have a survey that a person can take that explain the type of loving person you are. This survey is

Essay On Love By Shakespeare
Through this sonnet, Shakespeare tries to define what the phenomenon of Love is all about, by first
stating what it isn't, then asserting what it is.
He starts with rejecting the marriage done for logical and sensible reasons stating that there are too
many obstructions in the path of such relationships. He then condemns the love which changes with
the changing circumstances of life, or ends with death, claiming that that isn't true love. Comparing
it to the North Star and using nautical terms, Shakespeare then designate love as a solid constant
remainder. He describes the intensity and ferocity of the emotion as such that people who are in love
do not back down from whatever challenges and difficulties life throws at them, but face them with

The first of these is alliteration which is immediately clear in the first line itself: the repetition of
the letter "m" and "t" in "me not to the marriage of true minds" gives the line an internal rhythm.
Love is personified several times throughout the sonnet: it isn't something which can change or
end, it is constant and solid, it faces "tempests" and is "never shaken." All these instances of
attributing the qualities of a person to a mere emotion, serve their purpose in making the Bard's
message clear, that love is never ending. One also finds Time to be personified "Love is not
Time's fool." This description paints Time as a puppeteer who plays around with everything,
controlling everyone, and changing things on a whim, which is a repeating idea in many of
Shakespeare's other sonnets plays and poems. Yet love is set apart from the rest of all the
emotions that one feels: it is something which Time can exercise no right over, as it is independent
of all sorts of manipulations. Visual imagery is then evoked to further emphasize this point and the
picture of Old Keen Time shuffles on wielding a huge sickle, yet Love continues to evade its grasp,
appears in the

Descartes 's Theory Of Love
Rene Descartes had one ultimate goal, which was to discover the absolute foundation of truth and
philosophy, which includes love. Descartes had detected many false beliefs that he, as a youth,
believed to be true. It was at this point that he decided to rid himself of all of his previous opinions
and knowledge that he had accepted to be truths, based on the fact that he could find doubt in them.
He then concluded that if you construct something on false beliefs then everything becomes
doubtful. In his journey for truth, Descartes used the idea of methodological doubt to slowly
deconstruct his knowledge. Descartes uses the process of methodological doubt as the idea that if
you doubt something in the slightest, then you should reject it as a whole. This method, as well as
the four rules for finding true/ valid opinions, will be used to dissect Diotima's speech on the theory
of love, specifically the ladder of love, and how it came about in the Symposium by Plato.
It was Socrates who retold Diotima's speech, the only viewpoint from a woman throughout the
novel, at the Symposium. Diotima begins her speech by stating that love is a desire and lovers, love
what is good forever. Diotima proposes that in order to pursue love, you must impregnate the mind.
Diotima acknowledges that both men and women can be impregnated either within the body or
within the soul. Reproduction is only recognized as beautiful it is as an immortal process that occurs
forever. Love wants

Essay on Love
Much has been said about love, but if you search the horizon, you will discover that most of the
things written about love are either pithy or cynical.
Society in general can be cruel and heartless toward real virtue of any kind. In the most popular
venues, love is seldom dealt with with any degree of sobriety. Modern humor mocks marriage,
husbands and wives, then glorifies every conceivable breech of virtue, such as sexual immorality,
profane and obscene values.
Real love is a mystery to most people. Most people never realize the true potential or value of love,
nor do they learn to practice the art of love. It is usually very poorly defined. People think they are
in love, but they can't explain it. There is a great deal of confusion...show more content...
Romance is different from love, even though ideally, they should occur together. Romance is the
emotional component of love. Romance adds the sparkle in your eyes. Romance adds the perfume
and the colors. Romance embellishes the scenery and swells the music. Romance is the gilding of
love. Romance is gold leaf. It is ornamentation. Romance sometimes becomes a means unto itself. It
even becomes a cheap substitute for love at times. Some people seem to desire the trappings and
embellishments of romance in place of genuine relationships. By comparison, romance is superficial
to love. Romance is skin deep. Love is heart deep. Romance requires things that love does not
require. Romance requires gifs and surprises and lavish attention. Romance sometimes demands
things that contradict love. Romance is offended when the gold leaf wears off. Romance condemns
love that is not eye–pleasing. Romance often injures and denigrates true love because love doesn't
always appeal to romance's selfishness.
Love is for givers, not getters. Those who demand to be loved before they will love shouldn't be
surprised if no one gives them love. Lovers live in a world of giving. The getters, the ones who are
looking for love, is a different world. We have a duty to love, but we have no guarantees that we will
be loved. We have it in our power to love, but we have no power to force others to love us. It is folly
to spend life demanding love from

Famous Essays On Love

  • 1. Essay about Love Love Love is difficult to define, difficult to measure, and difficult to understand. Love is what great writers write about, great singers sing about, and great philosophers ponder. Love is a powerful emotion, for which there is no wrong definition, for it suits each and every person differently. Whether love is between family, friends, or lovers, it is an overwhelming emotion that can be experienced in many different ways. People experience love for the first time by being part of a family. Family love is demonstrated through lessons of sacrifice, concern and compassion, from the cradle to the grave. There are many different levels and conditions of family love. It is the love we cherish between our intermediate family and our...show more content... A close–knit loving bond between two people can begin with a friendship. Whether it is a friendship between two males, two females, or one male and one female, these friendships will develop into love. In no way is it a romantic love, but this type of love connects and bonds friends. Friends may move away or friendships may wane, but the love between the two people burns on forever. Romantic love is a love that not every person will experience. It is a type of love that is not there at the beginning, but grows within the individual. When one finally finds the love they have been looking for, one can not imagine life with anybody else. Romantic love is a connection between two souls that is captured with a feeling that is not only felt within the heart but within their body as well. I have never been in love with a girl; I can only imagine what it might be like to be in love. Guessing from my sister's relationship with boys, it seems like a big headache instead of a wonderful feeling. To simply write a definition of love is complicated because every person has a different perception of love. The only way to capture the true meaning of love is to experience the feeling and find out for oneself, what love is. In our lives and the lives of others, love is evident. Whether it is between family, friends, or lovers, love is a precious Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay On Romantic Love Love is an abundant emotion that has different degrees. There is familial love, friendly love, unconditional love, and of course romantic love. Romantic love will be the superstar of this article. Romantic love may be around every corner whether between an old couple or a young teenage romance. However, love is not the easiest thing to attain. It is such a simple concept, though a difficult thing to actually have a person's hands on. Most people nowadays will yearn for something more commonly known as true love. True love can be explained in a sense that it is a person we may or may not consider as a soul mate. It can be someone we love to a certain degree that we feel happy, complete, and contented. The definition may be thrown out there in whatever way, but meeting eye to eye with said true love comes with certain complexity. In other times, we may be thrown off. What we think could be considered love may not actually be love. Though before knowing how to find love, one must know the basics when it comes to the act of loving in general. PsychologyToday.com records research on love. According to said research, vital things to a deep kind of love are physical attraction and a certain level of intimacy, which follow through with companionship that you feel towards the other person. The following can lead to difficulty because, in a sense, people of today are inclined towards an ideal view of romance. People are blinded by what they see in the media and relate whatever Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Reflective Essay About Love Before I begin, love has a substantial meaning to me like the Golden Rule. As a young adult, I thrive to change the word love. In every century, the word love is frequently overused and it is prosaic. Over the years, I finally understood that there is no eminent word to substitute love. Trust me, I had constantly searched across overseas on voyages with your daddy. The wordlove is the only form of vocal expression that I can assure you my affection towards you. The word love brings me happiness into my environment. Happiness makes me feel satisfied, contentment, delighted, amused, bliss, and thrilled. Consequently, I enjoy expressing my love to society because people tend get bless for the amount goodness you have done. In advance, I...show more content... I was crazy enough to involve Pedro in my destiny. Overall, the concept of it, just felt right, I thoroughly thought about our relationship for the future. I came to a realization, if I ever wanted our relationship to be a committed relationship. It would be best, if we both mature up, continue our bond as friends. Hopefully one day, Pedro would swept me off my feet. One great advice, I can give to you is wait for your true love to approach you. The significance of the person approaching you, just justifies that the person is serious about you and there is a possibility for a committed relationship. I certainly did, however, in my junior year, I identified Pedro as my friend and nothing else. My dreams were still present, but I preferred at the time his friendship over a romantic one. Throughout that time, I set my mind to work on myself: spiritually and mentally wise. I achieved to be patience, and be an robust person, by gaining these skills, it gave me contentment within my inner soul. Overall, this taught me valuable morals and norms directly from every obstacle I stumbled upon. Such as understanding how to be patience about finishing a book, or learning about my self–care. As senior year entered, I was a compassionate and determined woman for my education. I seek for no man in my life, only my education. Learning gave me satisfaction, it nurtured my mind development. • 4. Reflective Essay On Love Have you ever questioned what the definition of love was? Have you ever thought about the true meaning of love?In the text of Symposium it states that love is a great thing that happens. It states that love isn't just feelings it can be how you feel health wise and how you connect to something. It often states that love is a amazing and everyone should experience it. They also say many times that love can be powerful and sometimes overwhelming but it is okay, because the crazy love is the best kind. In the text Symposium it states that love is beautiful, love is natural and love shouldn't be shamed. Firstly, in symposium is says numerous times that love is beautiful. In the text it says, "Bear in mind that it is held to be more beautiful to love openly than in secret." According to The Speech of Pausanias, it says that if you love more openly you will get more out of it then keeping it to yourself. Also the text states" No one can think it is for the sake of sexual intercourse that the one so eagerly delighted in being with the other. Instead, the soul of each clearly wishes for something else it can't put into words; it divines what it wishes, and obscurely hints at." This is saying that it may not be the body that wants intercourse but it may be the soul that truly wants it. Lastly, the text states, " For it is necessary to be able to make the most inimical elements in the body friendly and love each other. But the most inimical are the most opposite: cold to hot, bitter to sweet, dry to wet, all such as that; it is by knowing how to instill Eros and unanimity that our progenitor Asclepius, as these poets here say and I myself, established our art." This is saying that loving someone doesn't mean you are exactly alike but you are compatible, you complement each other. It also says that dangerous love is okay, having dangerous love is not only beautiful but in fact it is like a piece of art that is unique. There are only so many loves in television history that are beautiful. The one that is beautiful is Derek and Meredith in Grey's Anatomy, they were perfect for each other. They never had any arguments, they cared deeply for each other and they complimented each other. So not only is love beautiful but it Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I recently moved to the village to learn magic from a famous wizard sage. I went exploring to get familiar with the place and I somehow wondered into the forest This is where I met the love of my life and I saw the most beautiful creature I have ever laid eyes on. She was sleeping under a big oak tree with a book on her chest and like a creep I hid behind a tree and watching over her in case any wild beasts comes to disturb her. As years goes by I used up all my luck and charm trying to win her over. It was a difficult battle, but she was worth it. Eventually, she and I both fell deeply in love and got married. Our life was going great and I we were expecting a baby. Unfortunately, I discovered my wife has a heart illness while I was performing a magic task my master had given me. I found out my wife would only have a few months left to live not even enough time to give birth to our child. I was devastated. I wanted her to give birth and raise him or her together, to watch our child grow old and to die together. I didn't have the heart to tell her of her illness. She would be devastated and it would deteriorate her health further. There's a rumor going around in my village about a famous healer named Feronia who could supposedly heal and cure all things. • 6. Love in Poetry Essay Love in Poetry There are endless ways in which love can be portrayed and occur. There are numerous types of love, whether it's physical, emotional or romantic love. I intend to expand upon and highlight the various ways in which love an loss is portrayed in 5 selected poems: John Clare's 'First Love', John Keats' 'La Belle Dame Sans Merci', Robert Browning 'My Last Duchess' and Christina Rossetti's two poems 'Birthday' and 'Remember'. All of the poets portray love the concept of love or loss or both in relation to some; they all attempt to capture and express the presence of love and loss in the closest way possible. The poet carries on to say ?Words from my eyes did start;? as if due to the overload of emotion running through his body paralyzing him and making him dumbfound, the young boy desperately wants the girls heavenly eyes to meet with his, as if a sign to recognize him and his feelings towards her. Oblivious to the fact that the young girl still does not recognise his feelings towards here or his existence as a matter of fact; Clare carries on acknowledging his loss, and simultaneously emphasizes his undying love towards her and continuers to secretly admire her. The poet expresses his loss in such a way that the reader feels sympathetic towards him; secretly admiring and long a woman who does not even know he exists let alone his feelings towards her. ?Are flowers the winters choice?? ?Is love?s bed always snow?? these two lines express his feelings of undying love towards his first true love and how he feels he should have told her how he felt; but alas it is to late, so he puts his feelings in writing in the form of a poem. These two subjects seem to be completely opposite of each other, but they still manage to tie in together. They might not be the same thing but in certain scenarios they can be viewed as the same thing. For example, in some situations love can be considered the same as war. However, love and war can contradict themselves at the same time to. Sometimes, love can bring war, but war can also lead people to love. Howells exclaims, "You thought it would be alright for my George, your George, to kill the sons of those miserable mothers and the husbands of those girls that you would never see the faces of" (Howells 1500). Instead of grieving for the deceased man they turn the blame on each other, which is a very common thing in war. As stated before, George was manipulated into enlisting in the military by Editha. Although, he did give the greatest sacrifice one could ever do for a loved one. George was never interested in joining the war, but Editha figured the only way she could marry him was if he was to join and do something heroic for her. "Gearson is obviously troubled when he comes to tell Editha that war has been declared. Puzzled by 'his want of seriousness about it ' and by his ' making light of a cause so high and noble ', she fears that Gearson lacks 'earnestness at the core of his being ', a defect she feels confident she can correct by her ' love. Because Gearson is skeptical of the romantic justification of the war which Editha believes so unquestioningly, he is paralyzed by uncertainty. He wants to act decisively but has no clear position from which to act" (Crowley 210). • 8. Essay about What is Love? What is love? The type of love I'm describing is the one that gives you butterflies when a certain person comes to mind. Just seeing that particular person can be enough to make one smile and make your day and all the worries go away. Right now that person comes to mind. It's neither a crush nor infatuation and many are willing to do anything for this thing that is called love. Love can hurt in the long run, and people can also be blinded by it. Those who are ready to be loved have to ask themselves if there are emotionally ready for. Many people put up walls to guard their "heart" from being hurt again. Love teaches us many lessons. We use those lessons in our future relationships. We don't want to make the same mistakes. Lastly, love...show more content... When we're truly in love with the person we see beyond color or it doesn't matter because that person accepts that person for whom they are. When we love those that a different culture from us we see beyond those imperfections. It's hard to describe 'love' through the sense. When we experience through the sense of sigh its hit us like a stuck of lightening. Almost love at first sight. Love through the sense of touch is when they you or putting their arms around you when you are sitting down. Love through the sense of taste is when the person you are attracted to kisses. When we experience love through the sense of smell when you're used to a certain aroma from that person. You seem to get used to when they wear a certain cologne or perfume that you always loved. When we experience the sense of hear in the relationship when we speak of our day. It's not just to hear them talk it's the emotion that is involved and the way they said. • 9. Essays in Love Essays in Love is a novel about two young people, who meet on an airplane between London and Paris and rapidly fall in love. The structure of the story isn't unusual, but what lends the book its interest is the extraordinary depth with which the emotions involved in the relationship are analysed. Love comes under the philosophical microscope. An entire chapter is devoted to the nuances and subtexts of an initial date. Another chapter mulls over the question of how and when to say 'I love you'. It 's because of her children a mother will work at a job she hates, just to make sure they have everything they could ever want or need. The phrase, love makes the world go round is very true. It 's is our driving force, for what ever reason it may be. Poems, plays, and legends can only briefly touch the true meaning of love. We can only feel what that meaning is, and express it in ways only we can understand towards another. The true question we should be asking is not, what is life, but what is love. What is love? • 10. What is Love? Essay Love, Love, Love. We all think about it, dream about it, sing about it, and even lose sleep worrying about it, but why? Love is such a small word paired with a vital meaning. It's universal, easy to spell, difficult to define, but impossible to live without. When we don't have it, we search for it, when we find it, we don't know what to do with it, when we have it, we fear losing it. Love is the constant source of happiness and sorrow. I am young and I haven't a clue as to what love is, let alone what falling in love is. However, I have my ideas of what love is like. I have never witnessed the beauty of people falling in love, or the severity of those falling out of love, so what is love? Love in general could be frightening. Some...show more content... I think falling in love with someone happens when you least expect it to, when you're too busy focusing on other aspects of your life. This is where fate comes into play. That specific person was led to you for some unknown reason. Out of the blues, it's like your knight in shining amour that you have longed to be with finally found his/her way to you. There are people in this world that think they may never fall in love again. You fall at times, but you get back up. You will love again, and you will also trust again. You have to simply let things get themselves done, that's when you know it's meant to be, because destiny took its course, and while you were too busy doing something else, the love of your life came along. Love dates way back to when the world began. In reality, we really have no idea what love truly is. Raising questions like, is it even real? We watch love movies, read romance novels, but that's the sugar–coated, sweet and simple version of it. Meeting someone, fall in love, get married, have kids, spend the rest of your lives together. What about the suffering we have to endure when falling in love? Risking everything for that one person? And even when we feel we've reached the end of the road, this person has the power to leave us at any given moment. We put ourselves out there with the chance they can break us apart. • 11. Essay love is worth the inevitable pain Love is Worth the Inevitable Pain Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is not the typical Hollywood love film. A Hollywood love film is a film where a couple gets together in the end and lives happily ever after, but this is a love story that shows the reality of love and the consequences that come with it. Love is not one hundred percent bliss, it also comes with pain. To get rid of this pain after a break up or death a company, Lacuna, has invented a way to erase people from their memory. The two main characters in the movie fall in love and then they both decide to erase each other from their memories. Clementine, Kate Winslet, erases Joel, Jim Carrey, because she becomes bored with their relationship....show more content... It gives me this feeling because she...................This picture shows what Joel pictures her as a little girl. He sees her as being a completely innocent child, and that is the way that he wants to remember her. The camera then pans across about ten dolls while it is out of focus until it reaches the ugly doll, that was also named Clementine, and then it focuses and zooms in on it. Clementine tells Joel that she would yell at the doll to try and make it prettier, and she for some reason believed that if the doll became prettier then she would too. The fact that Clementine is telling Joel about the doll in this intimate moment is that it makes her seem vulnerable and in need to Joel's affection. The camera then goes to a close up of Clementine just in time to see Joel begin to kiss her. As they are kissing Joel repeatedly calls Clementine pretty, and she says "Joel, don't ever leave me." I think this is the pinnacle of their relationship, this is the most intimate and emotional shot in the entire movie where they both are completely content with each other. This also shows that they need each other even through the times that they may not be happy with each other. The scene takes a drastic change when the next shot shows Joel crawling desperately on the ground in complete darkness except for the light fixed on the middle of the screen. • 12. Essay on Love Poems Love Poems Have the love poems, you have read given you a better insight into the emotion of love? The subject of 'Love Poetry' has given rise to some of the most beautiful and fascinating poetry. The poets illustrate their feelings, or the feelings of the people concerned with them through the use of figurative language. Alove poem is not necessarily a poem about romantic love, about romance, marriage and commitment; it could be something else entirely. It seems to be Universal. Timeless. Yet, it's also very individual, filtered by our own lives and expectations. Love can be a different thing for each one of us. Not all love poems deal with happy positive sides of love but there is also the negative sides such as pain,...show more content... 'do not grieve' , she does not want her lover to feel that her love is possessive, she does not want him to feel guilty. She wants him to cherish good times that they had, 'forget and smile'. The tone throughout is melancholy and emotional as the poet talks about her approaching death. The sonnet form is suitably used because the poet is telling her husband on how death will take over their love. She accepts death in a philosophical manner. Although she is physically dead she wants to be remembered. Christina Rossetti shows us how death can bring a blissful relationship to an end, but she also shows that love can exist even after death if it has withstood the test of time. She repeats the title 'remember' throughout the poem as a technique to emphasize that she really wants to be remembered. Poet Rossetti wants to be remembered by her love even if 'darkness and corruption leave'. Yet her love is unselfish. Here a poem by Christina Rossetti's, 'A Birthday', is a contrast to 'Remember'. Throughout this poem Rossetti expresses happy contented feelings, through her beautiful use of imagery. Nature imagery is used in the first half of the poem, ' heart is like a singing bird' , 'heart is like a rainb The title 'A Birthday' is not represented with love at all, but as we read the poem, we come to know that 'A Birthday' is new life, because she is in love. We see how love makes a person radiant and blissful. From the first line itself Rossetti Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Essay Three Types of Love Three types of love: eros, philos and agape. Love is a concept that one can explain with many different words. It is very easy to tell the definition of love but difficult to live in the real life. Love is something that is intrinsically in our nature. One can definite love, but one cannot dictate how, when and where love expresses itself. Plato, an old Greek philosopher describes three types of love in his book the Banquet. All of these classifications of love do happen in the human world, although every single person shows how they differ greatly in his or her life. In that Greek language, love can be classified as eros, philos, or agape. Each one depends upon the relationship of the people experiencing the love. In the first...show more content... Philos, the second of the three classifications of love in Greek language and philosophy, is more commonly called fraternal love. However, this does not mean that the relationships formed from it only happen among males, females or in biological families. Instead, philos signifies a sense of affiliation formed by sharing one's life deeply with whomever one chooses. This could be a life partner or simply a good friend that the person has come to trust. To someone outside the philos style relationship, it could look a lot like eros when a man and a woman become that close, but as long as those in the friendship know and don't exceed their own limits, philos love can continue to unite them as platonic brother and sister for far longer than others expect. For instance, there is a book in the Bible that refers to this kind of love and says: "Whoever finds one friend has found a treasure" (Sirach 5:14). Some people prefer to say that the first love that someone feels is the philos love; nevertheless, philos comes in a higher level because one has to purify the first attraction to another person, purify the simple erotic love, and mutate it to something more transcendental. But there must not be eros love in order to feel the philos love. Many people experience fluctuating degrees of this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. My First Love Essay Having a first love can change your life for the better in so many ways. My first love did that and much more. The best part of it I didn't expect any of it. The first time I was introduced to her I was working at a place called smoothie king. I remember her walking in she was stunning basically, breath taking. I've never seen anyone as gorgeous as her. When she first walked in the first thing I noticed was her long slick hair and a smile of an angel. Her eyes where amazing as a result I would just get lost in them. The crazy part was I've never felt that way for anyone else. I would just get this pulsing rushing feeling throughout my whole body. If someone could actually give me that feeling I knew they were precious. So, I started to talk to her more and I really felt this strong connection forming between us. The more we hanged out the more my life became great. Just being around her and the things, we did I felt my life heading in a direction that was so perfect. Having that feeling that someone appreciates you was so valuable to me. I started to see myself through someone else's eyes wondering what I could do to be a better person. That's exactly what I did. I saw myself being more grateful and understanding. There were also things I've always wanted to do in my life but I could never do because I was either unhappy or didn't have someone to do it with therefore with her I was able to do all of it. She really did change my life for the better and I can't thank her enough. My first love really did make me feel like I wanted to go out and experience the world like I've never have before. Even something so small like going skating was huge for me. Our first date we actually, went skating. That night made me realize even having someone there with you while you do something fun and that you both like is an experience I will never forget and cherish till this day. I was full of joy and excitement of how much bonding we were doing. I was never so giving but I caught myself buying everything that night when I usually wont. We skated for hours trying to impress each other with fancy skate tricks. She made me feel so different but in a good way. I felt like I would absorb all her likings. • 15. Shakespeares View on Love Essay Shakespeare's View on Love Shakespeare's plays are very drastic with how he ties love into them. Shakespeare always adds comedy or tragedy to any romance that might be taking place. For example in Twelfth Night, As You like It and Romeo and Juliet there is romance but he also puts comedy in there solove is not that easy. In the play Othello he makes it into a tragedy which makes the love even harder to take place. Shakespeare has always found a way to make love as complicated as he can which leads me to believe that he feels that you must work for love and it should not be handed to you. Love is already complicated, but when Shakespeare is involved he makes sure at least two things come around that can make it harder for those...show more content... Rosalind proves that love is a source of incomparable delight. Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous love stories written in the English literary tradition. Love is the plays most important and dominate theme. This is one of the few Shakespearean plays that focus on romantic love. An example of the romantic love is the intense passion that springs up at first sight between Romeo and Juliet. I feel that in Romeo and Juliet love is an ecstatic, overpowering force. Love takes over all other emotions that a person can feel. Throughout the play, Shakespeare made the young lovers life difficult because of their social worlds that were built around their own two families that are also enemies. The Capulet's and Montague's do not want their children together. Romeo is supposed to be madly in love with Rosaline while Juliet is supposed to be marrying Paris. Juliet says "deny thy father and refuse thy name, or if thou wilt not be but sworn my love, /and I'll no longer be a Capulet;" referring to the fact that she is giving up her family name because of her love for Romeo. Love has a powerful nature that is seen in ways that it is described. Sometimes in Shakespeare, love is described in having a religion aspect with it. In Romeo and Juliet, love is a brutal and powerful emotion that has captured many individuals. Shakespeare has it so this beautiful romantic play comes to an end Get more content on HelpWriting.net

When you tell someone you love them, you are speaking to their whole being. You are saying "I love YOU," which tells me that you can't fullylove a person in parts. The highest form of love knows all of the deep roots of the person and loves them anyway, forgives them anyway, and accepts them as they are anyway. Love is when nothing is hidden, when you accept the other's soul, fully, with no judgment. That is the only way love can never die. Love is way deeper than the surface. It is much deeper than something that comes and goes. I am not sure what it is, but I know what it is not. Love thrives in the foundation of its roots, and you cannot create it if you don't search for its layers deep in the soil–way beyond what is seen. You are always, always searching for better and better and never content with what you have because you don't pick what you have with your soul. If you would even entertain something that is not the best for your soul, you are settling. That is why I don't believe in options. They are: physical touch, act of service, words of affirmation, quality time, and receiving gifts. They each represent different characteristics of love people use in a relationship. Some may be used more than others. This is depending on the type of person you are as well as, the person you are in a relationship with. They have a survey that a person can take that explain the type of loving person you are. People who Use this language enjoy hearing positive comments from their loved one. They also like to hear the actual words I love you, every time. • 18. Essay On Love By Shakespeare Through this sonnet, Shakespeare tries to define what the phenomenon of Love is all about, by first stating what it isn't, then asserting what it is. He starts with rejecting the marriage done for logical and sensible reasons stating that there are too many obstructions in the path of such relationships. He then condemns the love which changes with the changing circumstances of life, or ends with death, claiming that that isn't true love. Comparing it to the North Star and using nautical terms, Shakespeare then designate love as a solid constant remainder. He describes the intensity and ferocity of the emotion as such that people who are in love do not back down from whatever challenges and difficulties life throws at them, but face them with ...show more content... The first of these is alliteration which is immediately clear in the first line itself: the repetition of the letter "m" and "t" in "me not to the marriage of true minds" gives the line an internal rhythm. Love is personified several times throughout the sonnet: it isn't something which can change or end, it is constant and solid, it faces "tempests" and is "never shaken." All these instances of attributing the qualities of a person to a mere emotion, serve their purpose in making the Bard's message clear, that love is never ending. One also finds Time to be personified "Love is not Time's fool." This description paints Time as a puppeteer who plays around with everything, controlling everyone, and changing things on a whim, which is a repeating idea in many of Shakespeare's other sonnets plays and poems. Yet love is set apart from the rest of all the emotions that one feels: it is something which Time can exercise no right over, as it is independent of all sorts of manipulations. Visual imagery is then evoked to further emphasize this point and the picture of Old Keen Time shuffles on wielding a huge sickle, yet Love continues to evade its grasp, appears in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Descartes 's Theory Of Love Rene Descartes had one ultimate goal, which was to discover the absolute foundation of truth and philosophy, which includes love. Descartes had detected many false beliefs that he, as a youth, believed to be true. It was at this point that he decided to rid himself of all of his previous opinions and knowledge that he had accepted to be truths, based on the fact that he could find doubt in them. He then concluded that if you construct something on false beliefs then everything becomes doubtful. In his journey for truth, Descartes used the idea of methodological doubt to slowly deconstruct his knowledge. Descartes uses the process of methodological doubt as the idea that if you doubt something in the slightest, then you should reject it as a whole. This method, as well as the four rules for finding true/ valid opinions, will be used to dissect Diotima's speech on the theory of love, specifically the ladder of love, and how it came about in the Symposium by Plato. It was Socrates who retold Diotima's speech, the only viewpoint from a woman throughout the novel, at the Symposium. Diotima begins her speech by stating that love is a desire and lovers, love what is good forever. Diotima proposes that in order to pursue love, you must impregnate the mind. Diotima acknowledges that both men and women can be impregnated either within the body or within the soul. Reproduction is only recognized as beautiful it is as an immortal process that occurs forever. Love wants Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Society in general can be cruel and heartless toward real virtue of any kind. In the most popular venues, love is seldom dealt with with any degree of sobriety. Modern humor mocks marriage, husbands and wives, then glorifies every conceivable breech of virtue, such as sexual immorality, profane and obscene values. Real love is a mystery to most people.
