2. Lesson Plan
General Goals/Objectives:
Shared Reading Lesson:
-Students will visualize scenes from the book
-Students will use key events to retell a story
Examples of
-Students will make “I wonder statements” to help
Student Work understand the story
Procedure:
-Read through the book, pausing for students to
visualize after reading a particularly vivid scene.
Remind students to close their eyes and create a
picture in their head.
-Pause and model for students an “I wonder
statement” (a strategy that good readers use). For
instance I wonder what Junie B. Jones will do with
the five dollars her grandpa Frank gave her, etc.
-Prompt students to make their own “I wonder
statements”
-After I complete the reading, have students retell
(summarize) events from the story.
Assessment:
-Graphic organizer (web wheel) detailing key
events from the story
-Picture and sentence detailing each student’s
favorite part of the book.
