1. K to12: A big mistake
for the Philippines
Persuasive Speech by
Peter Torres
2. Overview:
The administration of president Aquino
approved the K-12 educational system to
be implemented in the Philippines.
K – Kindergarten
1-6 – Elementary
7-10- High School
11-12 Senior High School
3. Support:
They say that the new system will
enable the students to enter the
workforce right after highschool
because of the added
specializations in the curriculum.
5. Money Problems
Parents will have to invest more to their
children because of the additional two years
of college.
College education is very important for
Filipino families. Parents will most likely push
for their students to go to college anyways.
6. Can the government
support us?
If the government cannot support
the current 10 year system, why
will we add two more?
7. Where will I sit?
I believe that DepEd should focus
on the lack of chairs, equipment,
proof-read books, qualified
instructors, and classrooms.
8. Fix what we have.
Isn’t it better to focus on what we have
now? Filipinos are very competitive in
representing themselves internationally
even with just ten years of elementary
and highschool education. We can do
it in 10 years what others can do in 12.
9. What’s the point?
There are huge drop-out rates in the
Philippines. Adding two more years will
worsen this problem. Students will most
likely drop out because of either
financial or motivational reasons.
10. Is there a job for me?
There aren’t a lot of available jobs
for college graduates in the
Philippines, who will hire a high
school graduate? They will most
likely be discriminated upon.
11. These are my reasons.
Thank you for your time. Hopefully, I
was able to persuade you in a way.
Here are my reasons on why I believe,
the K to 12 system is not effective.
