1. Pyrotechnics Homework Project
• You need to create a ‘Firework Chemistry and Safety’ product.
The aim is that it will be a ‘go to’ place in the future to learn
about the Chemistry of Fireworks.
• We will combine our products and share with students on
iDiscover or a webpage.
• Your product needs to cover the following:
– The chemical composition of your firework: atomic /
molecular structure of the elements / compounds
– Explain how the firework works linking to the chemistry
– Make a risk assessment of your specific firework based on
reliable data (and reference!)
– Specific safety considerations with your firework
– A reliable resource to use for further advice (and
reference!)
– Bibliography – a list of sources used
– DEADLINE FRIDAY 28TH MARCH

2. Homework project
Task 1
• Start to research chemical reactions in
a firework
– Research the history of fireworks
• Where was the first firework developed?
• What culture developed the firework?
• What were they used for?
– Choose a firework to conduct in depth
research on: Sparklers, Catherine
wheels, Rockets, Poppers, Parachutes… or
one of your choice!

3. Homework Project Task 2
• Conduct in depth research on your
chosen firework
• Distribute the tasks between your
group members based on the criteria
• Share your findings

• Create your product!
