Katia Garza EA1128 Reflection When I heard “The Technology Link” title for the course, I thought we are going to learn about useful links or programs for administrators. I also thought that the course was going to be about the importance on the use of technology for administrators, since they have to create so many different reports and analyze data. The truth is that this course was way better than what I thought. My envisioned outcomes were short compared to what I learned from the instructors and I really think that I will be able to apply all the knowledge acquired into my future job. Some of the outcomes I envisioned were that I would learn how to make certain reports and as I previously mentioned learn how to use certain programs but the outcome was much better, I learned more than what I had envisioned. The outcome was a more prepared person who is getting closer to be a technology citizen. Now I know how to create a blog, how to use this type of technology to help students and to create a way of communicating with teachers. As a future administrator I believe that everything I learned in this course is relevant to the work I presently perform because I want to incorporate more technology into my instruction, I also want to teach my students of the importance of online safety, and the copyright laws. As an administrator of an educational technology campus I know the importance of having professional developments for my staff that will help them use technology in a more comfortable level, the use of ongoing assistance for teachers will also benefit the students. I think I was very successful in carrying out my assignments even though they were very time consuming but with the assistance of the instructors and the coach everything was easier. Another tool that was extremely helpful was the interaction with my colleagues, and the discussion board. It is amazing how much we can learn from each other and how the input of others can help us view things from a different perspective. I also learned that I need to continue learning more about technology in order for me to be a good leader and guide my staff to work towards the same goal, which is prepare our students better for the real world. I do think that after taking this course I am better prepared and with more technology knowledge and skills. I really like the idea of learning many things about technology that are unknown for many administrators and also hope to be the new generation of administrators that will make a difference. Blogs are one of the many tools that we have now a days to communicate with each other, I think that the educational value that they have is immeasurable. Today’s students want to feel more advanced and in a different era, so everything that has to do with technology is appealing to them and they consider it interesting. Teachers should take advantage of the opportunity to use blogs and create a different way of learning by engaging the students into this new approach. On the other hand I think that one of the concerns of blogging is that even though students can be careful not to share their personal information, they cannot control the comments others make in their blogs and this could create very unpleasant situations. As a future leader I would like to use blogging to communicate with the school stakeholders by creating a school blog where parents, teachers, and students could find announcements, useful information, newsletters, upcoming events, etc. I think that it will be a great opportunity to have an open forum where parents, teachers, and students, can post their comments and their suggestions, and this way create a better line of communication and make everybody feel valued and part of our school family.
