This document discusses different types and market forms of fish and seafood. It aims to help learners understand the market forms of fish and shellfish, distinguish between different market forms and their characteristics, and appreciate the importance of performing different tasks. The document also provides information on disk management in computers, including the differences between discs and disks, what disk management is, and disk terminology such as cylinders, tracks, and sectors. It discusses disk structures like the master boot record, global partition table, virtual hard disks, and basic disks. The document also covers disk performance parameters and how to partition a hard disk.
2. Learning Objectives:
After going through this lesson, learners are
expected to:
1. Discuss the market forms of fish and
shellfish.
2. Distinguish different market forms of fish
and shellfish and their characteristics.
3. Appreciate the importance in performing
different task.
3.
4.
5. What's the difference between a "disc" and a "disk “?
Discs Disks
-refers to optical media, such as an
audio CD, CDROM,
DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, or DVD-
Video disc.
-are removable, meaning when you
unmount or eject the disc from your
desktop, it physically comes out of
your computer.
-refers to magnetic media, such as a
floppy disk, the disk in your
computer's hard drive, an external
hard drive.
Disks are usually sealed inside a
metal or plastic casing (often, a disk
and its enclosing mechanism are
collectively known as a "hard
drive").
6. What is Disk Management ?
Disk Management is a Microsoft Windows utility first
introduced in Windows XP as a replacement for the fdisk
command.
It enables users to view and manage the disk drives
installed in their computer and the partitions associated
with those drives.
As can be seen in the picture below, each drive is
displayed followed by the layout, type, filesystem, status,
capacity, free space, % free, and fault tolerance.
7. 1. Master Boot Record (MBR)
-the information in the first sector of any
hard disk that identifies how and where an
operating system is located so that it can be
loaded into the computer's main storage or
random access memory.
MBR does have its limitations, only works with
disks up to 2 TB in size.
8. 2. Global Partition Table (GPT)
-newer standard that’s gradually replacing
MBR.
-associated with UEFI.
-It’s called GUID Partition Table because every
partition on your drive has a “globally unique
identifier.
9. 3. Virtual Hard Disk (VHD)
-a disk image file format for storing the
complete contents of a hard drive.
-disk image, sometimes called a virtual
machine, replicates an existing hard drive and
includes all data and structural elements.
10. 4. Basic Disk
-physical disk that contains primary
partitions, extended partitions, or logical
drives.
-can be accessed by all versions of Windows, MS-
DOS, and Windows NT.
-can contain up to four primary partitions, or three
primary partitions and an extended partition with
multiple logical drives.
11. Disk Terminology
It is the sum set of tracks that have the
same track value of all discs. Also
referred to as group of tracks with same
radius
REDYLINC
CYLINDER
12. Disk Terminology
It is a circular path on the surface of
disk or diskette on which information is
magnetically recorded and from which
recorded information is read.
KARTC
TRACK
13. Disk Terminology
It is a subdivision of a track on a
magnetic disk or optical disk. Each
stores a fixed amount of user accessible
data.
SCROTE
SECTOR
15. Disk Performance Parameters
Seek Time
The time it takes to move the disk arm to the required
cylinder
Rotational Latency
The time it takes for the disk to rotate so that the required
sector is above the hard disk
• Access Time
The time it takes to get in position to read or write.
Seek time + Rotational Latency
• Time to get the data
Access Time + Transfer time
