14. 55“Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”[a]
56. The sting of death is sin, and the
power of sin is the law.
57. But thanks be to God! He gives us the
victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

When Jesus went to the cross two days ago, when the nails were
driven into his hands and feet, and when the Savior breathed his
last and it looked like all his work had come to naught; in fact,
victory has been won! This victory is just not for Jesus Christ, but
for all of his followers. Therefore, we can live a victorious life
through Jesus Christ! This echoes what Paul says in 1 Corinthians
15:55- 57, “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death,
is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is
the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through
our Lord Jesus Christ.

There are few areas in our lives that we can have victory through
our risen Lord, Jesus Christ! First, we can have victory over sins
and evil habits. Christ has saved us from all of the weaknesses
and sins in our life because we have the Spirit of Christ living in
us. We can turn to our Lord when we are tempted to sin, for he
knows our every weakness (ref. Hebrews 4:15). Let us be
assured that nothing is so strong, no sin is so long standing and
powerful, that it cannot be broken by Jesus Christ’s power!

Second, we can have victory over our fear. People are afraid of
many things; we fear of losing our status, pride, wealth, health,
and especially our life which is death. But the truth is that those
who trust in Christ Jesus have nothing to fear. Because in Christ
Jesus we have overcome. In Christ we have peace and joy that
passes all understanding (ref. Matthew 28:9-10).

Third, we can have victory over life’s trials and tragedies. Our
Lord is always walking by our side, holding us when we are weak,
and comfort us when we need it. Christ is there to help us carry
the heaviest burden that we are facing in our lives (ref. Matthew
11:28-30). Never has a burden been so heavy that he could not
share it or lift it. Besides, when we have Jesus Christ in our lives,
we no longer live only for now and then. We are living for eternity
because we know that one day he will call us home, to the
glorious eternal home.

Fourth, we can have victory over death. Because sin entered this
world, death is inevitable. Death is the final and hardest
opposition that we face! (ref. 1 Corinthians 15:26) But today we
no longer fear death because our Lord has overcome death and
give us victory over death. Because of Christ’s resurrection, we
are saved from the sting of death.

25. God sent His son
they called Him Jesus
He came to love
heal and forgive
He lived and died to buy my pardon
An empty grave is there to prove my
savior lives
25
26. Because He lives
I can face tomorrow
Because He lives
all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living
just because He lives
26
27. How sweet to hold a newborn baby
And feel the pride and joy He gives
But greater still the calm assurance
This child can face uncertain day,
because He lives
27
28. Because He lives
I can face tomorrow
Because He lives
all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living, just because
He lives
28
29. And then one day
I'll cross the river
I'll fight life's final war with pain
And then, as death gives way to victory
I'll see the lights of glory and
I'll know He reigns
29
30. Because He lives
I can face tomorrow
Because He lives
all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living
just because He lives
