Michizane of Sugawara’s death. He
passed away on February 25th in 903.

Details
The emperor Murakami started this event in 947
to calm Michizane’s soul. Many years ago,
people offered rape blossom because the sound
of rape blossom is similar to the Japanese word
“calm”. However, gradually they used plum
instead of rape blossom. So, now it’s called baika-
sai. Baika means flower of this flower.

Tiempo atrás, la gente ofrecía flores de colza porque
la pronuciación de esta flor es muy parecida al esta

means the seventh day of the seventh month of
the lunar calendar (July 7th). So many ancient
poets wrote poems about Tanabata.
Kitanotenmangu is famous because of this divine
service.

This festival is to pray to god for a perfect
state of health between in spring and summer.
A lot of children write their wishes on tanzaku
and they are decorated with bamboo. Then
children dance wearing yukata

Esta ceremonia consiste en rezar al dios para
pedir la buena salud y la felicidad de uno entre
primavera y verano. Muchos niños escriben su deseo

This festival is one of the representative events in
Kyoto. Furthermore, it started in 946, when people of
ancient times dedicate their harvest in the fall. And
now, this festival indicates their gratitude for a rich
harvest.

en el año 946, cuando algunas personas en el pasado
ofrecian su cosechas en elotoño. En realidad, esta

16. Autumn ~ZUIKI-SAI~
Details
◦ 1st October - Shinto (an object of worship) is moved to a
special place. Then, many Shinto priests visit to a worship
and girls dance. This dance is called yaotomenomai.
◦ 2nd - Omotesenke (one of the most famous schools of tea)
presents a special kind of tea.
◦ 3rd - The kabuto (Japanese helmet) is offered to a god.
◦ 4th - Shinto is moved back to its original place.
◦ 5th - Some chosen ladies from the Uziko region dance in front
of the main building.

◦ Primer día - El Shinto es movido a un lugar especial. Entonces, muchos
sacerdotes shinto lo adoran y las chicas bailan.
◦ Segundo día - Omotesenke (una de las escuelas de té más
famosas) entrega un tipo de té especial.
◦ Tercero día - Un kabuto (casco japonés) esofrecido a los dioses.
◦ Cuarto día - El Shinto es devuelto a su lugar de origen.
◦ Quinto día - Algunas mujeres escogidas de la región de Uziko bailan en
frente del edificio principal.

21. Winter ~SHIMAI-TENZIN, HATSU-TENZIN~
Details
Special chopsticks (used at New Year’s
celebration) and zouni (Japanese traditional food)
are served. Many stands are opened in the street.
For example plants, antiques, second hand clothes
and other kind of stands are open to the public.
Many people visit this huge market. Whereas,
there are a lot of students preparing for their
examinations and their parents are praying for
their children’s success.

22. Invierno ~SHIMAI-TENZIN, HATSU-TENZIN~
Detalle
Los palillos especiales (usados en el Año Nuevo) y
zouni (comida japonesa tradicional) se sirven. Y
hay muchos puestos. Por ejemplo de plantas,
antigüedades, ropa usada, y otras cosas se venden.
Mucha gente visita esos puestos. Hay muchos
estudiantes que están preparandose para sus
exámenes y sus padres rezan para que lo consigan.
