National Occupational Classification System (NOC)
• The National Occupation Classification System (NOC) is used
by the Government of Canada to classify occupations/jobs.
• It is based on categorizing occupations/jobs by their evaluated
skill type and skill level.
• The first digit indicates the skill level of the occupation/job, the
second digit indicates the occupation’s skill level and the last
two digits categorizes it to a specific occupational group.
Electricians (except industrial and power system), the NOC is 7241

Employability Skills
• Electricians must have good vision and hand/eye coordination
and be very detail oriented. Working with wires and electricity
can be very complex and there is little to no room for error.
• You must be physically fit as sometimes you may work in
cramped areas and high up where work can be dangerous.
• Safety consciousness is of the utmost importance.
• You may be working independently or on a team so you must
be prepared to adapt to your environment.

Emotional Intelligence
Emotional Intelligence is being able to identify and manage your
own emotions and the emotions of others.
1.Emotional Awareness in order to identify your own emotions and those of others
2.Ability to control your emotions and apply them to tasks such as thinking and solving problems
3.Ability to manage and regulate your emotions and to be able to calm down or cheer someone up
For an electrical engineer, I believe that you must be able to keep calm and focused on the task at hand and
those around you. You must be able to control your frustrations and learn to deal with problems and solve
them quickly and efficiently.

Why an Electrician?
I am thinking about becoming an electrician because the work is
challenging and interesting. Learning this trade is a career and
skill for a lifetime that will open up many different opportunities. I
can’t see myself working behind a desk and this will give me the
freedom and a variety of working areas to choose from. Should I
want to start my own business down the road and be my own
boss, I can choose the contract work which interests me the
most.
