AUTHOR: Kenneth Frampton
According to the author, who’s idea of spaces which includes all form of culture that
beats the form of nature. In the author’s perspective to the quality of spaces which
depends on the idea that the value of man-made factors such as technology that has
taken control the form of nature in a space. As quoted that “..modern curatorial practice
favored the exclusive use of artificial light in all art galleries,” ("Cite A Website - Cite This
For Me"). Through this response to the text, although to agree that the practice of
controlled light has placed as significant importance to any spaces, but to disagree that
the technological factors has been favored nevertheless has more acceptance to
translate more in a poetic manner. Though in this modern day, technology has been
used daily but it cannot translate a space more powerful than nature itself.
On the other hand, to strongly agree that tectonic plays an important part of architecture
as how important to relate nature to the indoor spaces, “...but rather to the activity that
raises this construction to an art form,” as quoted by Stanford Anderson ("Cite A
Website - Cite This For Me"). As human senses have played as the main factors to the
space, thus it has to be well function to satisfy their comfort in the building.
To another additional agreement to the fact that the five senses of human that serves as
a necessity in architecture build form. True that to consider deeply to the sense of
touch, the materials chosen for any parts of the space will bring different feelings and
atmosphere of any room. While it is critical to consider that the sense of a human being
will be feeling the spaces when being used to create a response to the architecture
language that the designer wants to interpret to that volume of space.
As according to the meaning of the writer in translating etymology, which he considers
blind to all senses except for the sense of feel or touch that have saved it from being
more further to a space. In the perspective of response to that idea, is to disagree that
only one sense that placed more importance than the other. As the five human senses,
will work as a whole to translate an art form it cannot work just as one. To create a
balance in all senses which will able to interpret a more accurate message. As only the
architectural environment that the designers create will able to control the emotions to
the spaces, but will touch all senses of a human to create a proper balance and
response to the architecture.
