In order to survive and prosper, organizations in the private and public sectors will need to respond in a timely and flexible way to social,
technological, economic and political change. This means that an organization's survival and growth will depend on its ability to cope with the external
and internal requirements that these changes will demand. This implies that existing and new staff will need to acquire new knowledge, skills,
attitudes and perspectives on a continual basis.
There is now a global economy to contend with, competition of such countries like China and India where there are low labor costs and where
advantage is taken of the new market opportunities created by reductions in trade barriers and technological advances.
Gaining or maintaining an edge over competitors has become the priority of organizations, and also for individuals wishing to pursue a fulfilling career.

What Was The Impact Of Globalization In The Us
IMPACT OF GLOBALISATION IN THE UK CIRCULAR FLOW OF INCOME
The United Nations states that globalisation "is a widely–used term that can be defined in a number of different ways. When used in an economic
context, it refers to the reduction and removal of barriers between national borders in order to facilitate the flow of goods, capital, services and labour...
although considerable barriers remain to the flow of labour... Globalisation is not a new phenomenon. It began in the late nineteenth century, but its
spread slowed during the period from the start of the First World War until the third quarter of the twentieth century. This slowdown can be attributed to
the inward looking policies pursued by a number of countries in order to protect their respective industries... however, the pace of globalisation picked
up rapidly during the fourth quarter of the twentieth century" Globalization has expanded quickly in the course of recent years; the primary helping
variables are regularly highlighted as:
–The quick extension in global exchange.
–Enhanced exchange liberalization where there are currently less limitations on global exchange.
–Significant worldwide capital streams.
–Developing immediate financing by multinational companies in different nations .
–Expanded global versatility of work and the related movement of individuals between nations.

Venture Capital in China, Past, Present, and Future
Introduction China's stifled economy has experienced an unprecedented period of growth since the introduction of new economic policies at the Third
Plenum of the 11th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party in 1978. The long–suppressed entrepreneurial zeal of the Chinese people was rekindled
with the lifting of restriction on private business ownership. Later, the advent of Western–style venture capital funds provided budding Chinese
entrepreneurs with sources of hitherto unavailable capital. Western investments, advice, and discipline, combined with Chinese entrepreneurialism,

During this period of great turmoil and transition, the imperial Qing dynasty that had ruled China for almost three centuries struggled to maintain the
last semblance of control, while leading political figures like Sun Zhongshan contemplated the formation of a democratic republic (Spence, 1991). The
relatively chaotic and transitional nature of the country, however, did not at all diminish the demand for manufactured consumer products. Instead, the
gradual opening up of the country (at least the coastal regions) created new demand that could not be entirely satisfied by the Western firms that rushed
to enter China. The imbalance between supply and demand gave opportunities to local entrepreneurs to create new business enterprises that would help
fill the new demand. Many new, Chinese–controlled firms grew up in the foreign–dominated enclaves (mainly in and around the city of Shanghai) that
provided relatively stable business environments during those turbulent times (Bergere 1989).
It was during a similar period of transition when the first of the entrepreneurs of the new China re–appeared. After the founding of the People's
Republic, the communist government abolished private ownership of businesses and nationalized all industrial and commercial concerns in 1956
(Bergere 1989). The subsequent two decades proved to be tumultuous as the Great Leap Forward, the Three–year Natural Disaster, and the Great
Proletariat Cultural Revolution wrought one catastrophe

Joint Venture Essay
The first country we will look at is China. The first thing to consider, when setting up a business in China, especially for a foreign national, is to
determine the legality of the business. Many types of businesses are not allowed to be run by foreign nationals in China. For example, an export trade
company cannot be run by a citizen of another country in China (Harris, 2017). Next, you need to decide if your corporation is going to be a joint
venture or what is called a wholly foreign owned enterprise (WFOE). A joint venture is a partnership with a Chinese citizen. While setting up a joint
venture may make the process easier, Issie Lapowsky of Inc. strongly suggests against it, as it often leads to the Chinese citizen winding up with ...

It may be of some tax benefit to form a special purpose company to act as the investor for the WFOE according to Harris, who mentions Hong
Kong as a common location for this (2011). After all documents have been submitted, it is required that you formally ask for and receive approval
for the project from the Chinese government (Harris, 2011). This must be done in order to get the company registered. Then you need to submit
your articles of association, a feasibility study and your lease for government approval (Harris, 2011). It is important that you understand that the
government typically requires the first year of the lease to be paid in advance (Harris, 2011). Finally, salary and benefits packages and any other
documentation needed for the specific project will need to be submitted (Harris, 2011). After all documentation has been submitted it typically
takes between two and five months for approval, provided everything has been properly submitted (Harris, 2011). It should be noted that this
process can take significantly longer if there the company is large or complex and there may be licenses or other fees involved (Harris, 2011). The
process for setting up a corporation in China seems to be very complex, but well established with little surprises. Dan Harris, who appears to be the
subject matter expert on all things WOFE, states that if the process is complied with, there is essentially a 100% approval (2011). In fact, considering

Some specialized firms provide "seed capital." Most venture capital firms require that a business move beyond the idea stage before they will
consider financing it. Yet, some businesses require a good deal of work, and money, to get from the concept phase to the point where they can obtain
venture capital financing. These seed funds can provide this kind of capital, as can "angel" investors (see below) and friends and family. Bootstrapping
First, it is worth pointing out that many successful ventures receive no outside funding of any kind. Entrepreneurs use their own savings, credit cards,
a second mortgage, even personally guaranteed loans, to start their businesses. The appeal of this strategy is clear: 100% ownership of the equity. 2
New Venture Financing 802–131 Amar BhidГ© conducted a study1 in the late 1980s that found that 80% of the 500 companies on Inc. Magazine's list
of the 500 fastest growing companies were started–and grown–with no outside equity capital. Indeed, the median start–up capital required was $10,000.
Certainly, one factor that enables a bootstrap approach is the selection of a business without a particularly deep cash flow trough. Thus, inventing a new
drug or starting a semiconductor manufacturing enterprise are businesses that would be difficult to bootstrap, simply because of the huge amounts of
capital required. The ideal business for

The Absent Rainbow in Silicon Valley
Minorities in America are the fastest growing consumers of technology, ranging from smartphones to social media, But not only are the absent from

how to develop tech communities of people who don't just consume media, but who create it and can then use it to solve problems in their

depressing demographics. There are two categories of intersecting obstacles for minorities wanting to get a foothold in the technology markets. There
is a deficiency in access to technology and computer science educational programs, and there is a lack of venture capital available to minorities. These
two factors create a deficit of collective capital required for potential minority entrepreneurs to broker deals for investments.

startups. Much technological advancement would have never occurred if Venture Capital wouldn't invest a huge portion of their capital into the region.
The first glance at statistics revealed that most of the funds invested into the region have not left the perimeter for over 20 years. Investors are
particularly optimistic about the opportunities available in the area. Instead of reallocating funds after projects have come to the end, Venture Capital
firms choose to keep their investments in the Silicon Valley constantly searching for new opportunities. Due to this information I would state my
hypothesis: Without Venture Capital, Silicon Valley would not be as progressive as it is today. Many of the existing research has concluded that VC
plays a significant role in many economies. While entrepreneurship and small businesses plays a tremendous role in the economic growth, it was
proven that those that have received capital directly from VC have shown an accelerated development and were able to benefit the economic growth
faster than those who got financing elsewhere. Recent research have shown how Israel is successfully adopting the idea of Venture Capital. Economy

Empirical Model, Operationalization And Measurement Of...
CHAPTER THREE
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1 Introduction
This chapter comprised of research design, research philosophy, empirical model, operationalization and measurement of variables, target population,
sampling design, data collection instruments, data collection procedure and data analysis and presentation. The operational methodology that was used
in this study was the before and after basis where data was collected on firms before using venture capital and after using venture capital. (Bueselinck &
Margnat, 2003) argue that there is no "gold standard" in impact measurement.
3.2 Research design
(Borg &Gall, 1983) defined research design as a detailed plan on how a research study will be conducted. It is a plan according to which data is
collected to investigate the research hypothesis or question in an economical manner. According to Gall et al (2003) a research design is a plan for
collecting and utilizing data so as to obtain the desired information with sufficient precision or so that a hypothesis can be tested properly. It is a
framework that guides the collection and analysis of data.
A descriptive research design was adopted for this research. According to (Cooper & Schindler, 2003), a descriptive study is concerned with finding
out the what, where and how of a phenomenon. (Saunder et al, 2003) further assert that descriptive research is used principally to gain a deeper
understanding of something. The descriptive research collects data in order to answer questions

is often structured more like a quasi–joint venture, because corporate venture capital often brings more to the table than just money, such as access to
the resources of these large companies. Corporate venture capital efforts typically revolve around the corporation's goals to incubate future acquisitions;
gain access into new technologies; obtain intellectual property licenses; provide work for unused capacity; technology entrepreneur thinking to current
corporate staff; final hours for excess cash; and break into new markets.
NARROWING THE FIELD
Preparation is the key to obtaining an initial meeting with the institutional venture capitalist. There are three central components to the preparation
process: business and strategic planning; effective networking; and narrowing the field. A well–written business plan and financing proposal is a
necessary prerequisite to serious consideration by any sophisticated source of capital. Effective networking means using professional advisers,
commercial lenders, investment bankers and consultants who may be able to assist you to get the business plan into the hands of the appropriate
venture capitalists. Institutional sources of capital are often flooded with unsolicited, "non–introduced" plans that are more likely to end up in a
wastebasket than before an investment committee. Remember that the average venture

History Of The Venture Capital Industry
1.2.History of the venture capital industry
Historically venture capital represented a small portion of alternative assets, which in turn represented a small, but sizeable, portion of the global
financial asset base. (INSERT CITATION). Prior to the semiconductor boom in the 1960s, venture capital was closer to what today is described as
angel investing. During this period, the majority of new venture financing originated from individual investors, and often financed by the entrepreneur
or his or her family and acquaintances. (INSERT CITATION).
Prior to the Second World War, most new venture financing was sourced from wealthy individuals and families. (CITATION) George Doriot is often
regarded as father of the modern, whereby he established the investment firm ARD in 1947 to source institutional funds to be invested in financing new
ventures. (CITATION) A decade later the U.S. government passed the Small Business Act of 1958, through which the government provide financing in
form of debentures to Small Business Investment Companies (SBICs). While SBICs backed some of today's most well–known multi–national
corporation such as Xerox or FedEx, and share many aspects of the modern VC firm, they did not become the accepted model for venture financing. (
Venture Capitaland Finance of Innovation, Metrick et al) Perhaps the most valuable outcome of SBICs for the establishment of the venture capital
industry was that it trained the professionals who later established the venture

The Affordable Care Act : Reducing Competition
How the Affordable Care Act Is Reducing Competition
The Affordable Care Act was created to assure all Americans have access to affordable insurance, but as stated by Sir Isaac Newton for every action
there's an equal and opposite reaction. As more and more people become insured in this country, the for–profit insurance companies are reaping the
benefits from the legislation of the Affordable Care Act.
The creators of the Affordable Care Act inexcusably anticipated that new kinds of health plans, designed in our nation's capital, would emerge to
displace the national for–profit insurers.(Gottlieb, 2015, para. 3) Two inventions were engineered to help guide the Affordable Care Act in favor of the
consumers.
The first invention of Obama care was not–for–profit "co–ops" plan that Obama Care funded with almost $2.5 million in grants.(Gottlieb, 2015, para.
3) The vast majority of co–ops have failed or are failing miserably due to poor planning and compromised structural integrity. The co–ops have been
more of a financial burden rather than bringing solidity to our health care system. During the last half of 2014 the Health and Human Services
Department had to rescue six co–ops with $356 million in emergency funding.(Gottlieb, 2015, para. 6)
The second invention of Obama Care was the consolidation of hospital systems of epic proportions; they would be able to market their risk–bearing
health insurance directly to patients.(Gottlieb, 2015, para. 7) During all these

Early venture capital and the growth of Silicon Valley
One of the first steps toward a professionally–managed venture capital industry was the passage of the Small Business Investment Act of 1958. The
1958 Act officially allowed the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to license private "Small Business Investment Companies" (SBICs) to help
the financing and management of the small entrepreneurial businesses in the United States. During the 1960s and 1970s, venture capital firms focused
their investment activity primarily on starting and expanding companies. More often than not, these companies were exploiting breakthroughs in
electronic, medical or data–processing technology. As a result, venture capital came to be almost synonymous with technology finance.
It is commonly noted that the first venture–backed startup is Fairchild Semiconductor (which produced the first commercially practical integrated
circuit), funded in 1959 by what would later become Venrock Associates. Venrock was founded in 1969 by Laurance S.

Can Democracy Remedy Africa 's Problem? Essay
Can democracy remedy Africa 's Problem?
Democracy the representation of people by leaders they elect to bring their problems for solving or politics by discussion. What does this mean? This
is a preamble that pushes for people to be awake and bring out legislation that will favour them. The title then asks, can democracy remedy Africa 's
problems? No. Why do I say no it's because before we bring a theory not born of Africa to solve our problems we end up facing a fragmentation of
knowledge.
On one hand, the fracture of learning identifies with the hostility between the endogenous intelligence and encounter and the information acquired
from the pilgrim past. Then again, it identifies with the separate effect of religions (specifically Christianity, Islam and animism) on the ideological
estimations of improvement. These diverse types of fracture have brought extraordinary ideological disparity and an absence of social roots.
The ideological divergences between the African pioneers were especially affirmed amid the East–West encounter, spinning around liberal and Marxist
belief systems. The end of socialism significantly constrained the degree of this fracture without, notwithstanding, disposing of it. The divergences
between African political figures now show up in two ways: the fight for authority, both in the locale and with pilgrim powers, and the topic of majority
rules system and the way of regular citizen or military administrations. These disagreements were constantly

Challenges Faced By Companies Of The Bionanotechnology...
There are many challenges faced by companies in the Bionanotechnology sector depending on their size.
Small companies
According to Dr. Elicia Maine, an Associate Professor at the SFU's Beedie School of Business, most of the Bionanotechnology research in Canada
takes place at the University level. The researchers at the University level look for the labs in their own University only that have industrial
participation. So, many of the Nano–biotech researches for the startups remain at the University level and therefore lag behind on new research due to
scarcity of funds. Further, the researchers at the startups have to work for long hours and get little time to read the journals related to their research and
keep themselves updated about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Maine suggested that Nano–biotech companies should divide their research into different branches or even different companies, so that they can
maintain diversity while accepting the Venture Capitalists demands. An important example of such a company is Nanogram Corporation, which
directed its research into different areas including medical devices, consumer electronics and solar energy. The research at Nanogram was purchased
by a Japanese company Teijin Ltd. In the year 2010.
Another important issue involving the funding by the Venture Capitalists is the Risk Capital in the Nano–biotech sector. According to CVCA
(Canada's Venture Capital and Private Equity Association), the worldwide risk investment in Canada dropped by 22% to $380 million in 2012,
although overall investment remained stable at $1.5 billion in 2011. Thus, Canadian research based Nano–biotech firms are often the target of foreign
buyers as risk capital in Canada is lower than United States. Alberta is seen as the ideal destination for funding by the Venture Capitalists.
Large Companies
A big challenge faced by the multi–nationals in the Nano–biotech sector is to keep the innovation alive. According to Dr. Maine, the radical innovations
happens mostly at the smaller companies. The big companies, although profitable, lacks diversity and flexibility in their research focus because of the
stakeholders and Investors demands. However, innovations can occur at the big companies

During this period of great turmoil and transition, the imperial Qing dynasty that had ruled China for almost three centuries struggled to maintain the last semblance of control, while leading political figures like Sun Zhongshan contemplated the formation of a democratic republic (Spence, 1991). The relatively chaotic and transitional nature of the country, however, did not at all diminish the demand for manufactured consumer products. Many new, Chinese–controlled firms grew up in the foreign–dominated enclaves (mainly in and around the city of Shanghai) that provided relatively stable business environments during those turbulent times (Bergere 1989). It was during a similar period of transition when the first of the entrepreneurs of the new China re–appeared. After the founding of the People's Republic, the communist government abolished private ownership of businesses and nationalized all industrial and commercial concerns in 1956 (Bergere 1989). The subsequent two decades proved to be tumultuous as the Great Leap Forward, the Three–year Natural Disaster, and the Great Proletariat Cultural Revolution wrought one catastrophe ... After all documentation has been submitted it typically takes between two and five months for approval, provided everything has been properly submitted (Harris, 2011). It should be noted that this process can take significantly longer if there the company is large or complex and there may be licenses or other fees involved (Harris, 2011). The process for setting up a corporation in China seems to be very complex, but well established with little surprises. • 33. The Affordable Care Act : Reducing Competition How the Affordable Care Act Is Reducing Competition The Affordable Care Act was created to assure all Americans have access to affordable insurance, but as stated by Sir Isaac Newton for every action there's an equal and opposite reaction. As more and more people become insured in this country, the for–profit insurance companies are reaping the benefits from the legislation of the Affordable Care Act. The creators of the Affordable Care Act inexcusably anticipated that new kinds of health plans, designed in our nation's capital, would emerge to displace the national for–profit insurers.(Gottlieb, 2015, para. 3) Two inventions were engineered to help guide the Affordable Care Act in favor of the consumers. The first invention of Obama care was not–for–profit "co–ops" plan that Obama Care funded with almost $2.5 million in grants.(Gottlieb, 2015, para. 3) The vast majority of co–ops have failed or are failing miserably due to poor planning and compromised structural integrity. The co–ops have been more of a financial burden rather than bringing solidity to our health care system. During the last half of 2014 the Health and Human Services Department had to rescue six co–ops with $356 million in emergency funding.(Gottlieb, 2015, para. 6) The second invention of Obama Care was the consolidation of hospital systems of epic proportions; they would be able to market their risk–bearing health insurance directly to patients.(Gottlieb, 2015, para. 7) During all these ... • 41. Can Democracy Remedy Africa 's Problem? Essay Can democracy remedy Africa 's Problem? Democracy the representation of people by leaders they elect to bring their problems for solving or politics by discussion. What does this mean? This is a preamble that pushes for people to be awake and bring out legislation that will favour them. The title then asks, can democracy remedy Africa 's problems? No. Why do I say no it's because before we bring a theory not born of Africa to solve our problems we end up facing a fragmentation of knowledge. On one hand, the fracture of learning identifies with the hostility between the endogenous intelligence and encounter and the information acquired from the pilgrim past. Then again, it identifies with the separate effect of religions (specifically Christianity, Islam and animism) on the ideological estimations of improvement. These diverse types of fracture have brought extraordinary ideological disparity and an absence of social roots. The ideological divergences between the African pioneers were especially affirmed amid the East–West encounter, spinning around liberal and Marxist belief systems. The end of socialism significantly constrained the degree of this fracture without, notwithstanding, disposing of it. The divergences between African political figures now show up in two ways: the fight for authority, both in the locale and with pilgrim powers, and the topic of majority rules system and the way of regular citizen or military administrations. These disagreements were constantly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Small companies According to Dr. Elicia Maine, an Associate Professor at the SFU's Beedie School of Business, most of the Bionanotechnology research in Canada takes place at the University level. The researchers at the University level look for the labs in their own University only that have industrial participation. So, many of the Nano–biotech researches for the startups remain at the University level and therefore lag behind on new research due to scarcity of funds. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dr. Maine suggested that Nano–biotech companies should divide their research into different branches or even different companies, so that they can maintain diversity while accepting the Venture Capitalists demands. An important example of such a company is Nanogram Corporation, which directed its research into different areas including medical devices, consumer electronics and solar energy. The research at Nanogram was purchased by a Japanese company Teijin Ltd. In the year 2010. Another important issue involving the funding by the Venture Capitalists is the Risk Capital in the Nano–biotech sector. According to CVCA (Canada's Venture Capital and Private Equity Association), the worldwide risk investment in Canada dropped by 22% to $380 million in 2012, although overall investment remained stable at $1.5 billion in 2011. Thus, Canadian research based Nano–biotech firms are often the target of foreign buyers as risk capital in Canada is lower than United States. Alberta is seen as the ideal destination for funding by the Venture Capitalists. Large Companies A big challenge faced by the multi–nationals in the Nano–biotech sector is to keep the innovation alive. According to Dr. Maine, the radical innovations happens mostly at the smaller companies. The big companies, although profitable, lacks diversity and flexibility in their research focus because of the stakeholders and Investors demands.
