Opportunities to Influence
Some of you may remember the flamboyant basketball player named Charles Barkley. What he lacked in physical stature
as a power forward, he more than made up for with effort and brashness. When asked about what kind of role model he
thought he was to aspiring athletes, he simply said that he didn’t consider himself a role model.
I hope we all realize that statement is false. No matter who you are and what you do, you are a role model. What that
means is that you have an influence on others. Like Charles influenced young basketball players, I have had the
opportunity to be used of God in ways that I don’t deserve. I just returned home from a week long curriculum
development project that is instrumental in the Word of Life Teacher Source. Over 30 writers and editors are involved
and God has allowed me to be a part of reaching students around the world because of this vehicle of discipleship.
Two new ventures are on the horizon in February. I have been praying about taking my love of sports and using it to
encourage and coach youth pastors in the form of my Game Plan Blog. I have been developing a plan, material, and Lord
willing, will post on my webpage early this month. The other opportunity to influence leaders is scheduled for
February 11th in Schroon Lake. I have been asked to record some ten minute teaching sessions on Vimeo called
Transfer Live. It is humbling and I covet your prayers as I step out in faith and take opportunities to influence others!
STC and NVP
Word of Life loves their abbreviated titles. Some of you may know what the abbreviations
above represent. STC stands for Summer Training Corp which is a summer student work
program that is vital to staffing the camps with housekeeping, wait staff, and maintenance
at every Word of Life camping facility. NVP, or the National Volunteer Program, is
designed for churches, youth groups or individuals with skills to accomplish a particular
improvement need at one of the WOL properties.
Now is the time to encourage your young people to formulate their 2011 summer
plans. STC is awesome for your service minded teens who
