East London News- The Summit That Got
The World Talking:
āKevin Ovita Teddy is a member of Wasanii Mtaani, a group of artists based
in Nairobi who mainly do emceeing graffiti, building, deejaying, break
dancing and free styling. It includes artists, actors and lyricists, hop
contortionists..... ā and its members wish to bring about social change in their
existing society.....shared his general outlook on the summit. When he was
asked about some countries not being given enough exposure for the crimes
allowed to take place within their borders, he said, āUtopian thinking is the
motor force of society.ā He went on to explain it highlights the importance of
remaining motivated regardless of how much coverage the media decided to
give each cause.ā
Red Pepper London- The Afrikan Hiphop
Caravan: an alternative vision of Hiphop:
"What the Afrikan Hip Hop Caravan is doing in Africa, the native soil of all
black music and a continent symbolic of corporate greed and exploitation, is a
revitalisation of hip hopās original political power. We have already seen its
influence on many of the North African uprisings, with numerous young
people citing local, political rap music as the inspiration in their fight for
democracy. In Nairobi, Kenya, for example, more than 2,000 hip hop fans
turned out."
