Boston University began its varsity sports program in 1916 with men's basketball. The following year, students chose the terrier as the mascot. During the early 20th century, BU added more men's sports like hockey, baseball, football and soccer. In the 1970s, BU began supporting women's sports too, such as crew, swimming and basketball. Today, BU students can choose from 25 varsity sports and fans can learn about the teams at goterriers.com. The passage was written by Kelly Greenberg, the head coach of the BU women's basketball team.
