Management System covering the Hohhot Expressway Project

August 20, 2015. The official opening ceremony was held
for the Hohhot Expressway Project, also known as G0601.
This municipal engineering project is the highest one-time
investments there, the largest engineering project of its
type, and the fastest durable construction undertaken. It
has set three records in the history of this capital city. The
total capital investment of this expressway project was
about RMB 20 billion (USD 3.09 billion) with its total loop
length at 63.2 miles (101.7 kilometers). As of August 20,
the main expressway was completed and the initial test
phase began.

To achieve 360-view traffic control
KEDACOM Intelligent Traffic Management System has enabled a
comprehensive analysis of real-time traffic situation
The country’s newly implemented Intelligent Traffic Management System will soon set a new record
for KEDACOM. Nearly 700 sets of KEDACOM Intelligent Traffic Management System sets will be
deployed along Hohhot Expressway this year. The key functions this system will perform will be to
monitor entrance ramps, detect speeding incidents, record red light breaches, and report overall
traffic views from elevated vantage points. In this way, a 360-view will be achieved by the Project’s
command and control centre.
Largest Maintenance-free Intelligent Traffic Management
Project in China
The System is autonomous and highly customizable capable of user-programmed parameters and
output of anomalous event-generated alarms. It is currently the most advanced maintenance-free
Intelligent Traffic Management project in China. The KEDACOM maintenance-free constituent
products incorporate advanced weather protection design and are resistant to rain, snow, dust,
haze and erosion.
In contrast to the KEDACOM maintenance-free Intelligent Traffic Management System, the
traditional police enforcement programs along the Hohhot Expressway cost the municipality about
RMB 300,000 (or USD 45,753) in maintenance each year.
Overcoming Critical Challenges
Expressways are designed to eliminate the need for traffic lights and make it possible for vehicles
to be driven smoothly at high speeds. On the one hand, traditional traffic management systems are
deployed in conjunction with police personnel and vehicles. In such a situation, during patrolling
or traffic management exercises, there are bound to be road blocks and, hence, delays caused
to expressway users. On the other hand, during rough weather conditions, the traditional systems
experience moisture build-up or dust deposits on cameras resulting in no or corrupted video
recordings of any traffic law violation. The autonomous Intelligent Traffic Management System
eliminates these delays, ensures uninterrupted system functionality, and efficient traffic flow.

Performance During Extreme Temperature Conditions
While traditional police equipment is susceptible to failure during extreme temperature conditions,
KEDACOM Intelligent Traffic Management System is an excellent choice during Hohhot high
average temperature of 40 ℃ and low average temperature of -30 ℃. A rigorous temperature
test conducted in 2012 proved the System to function normally while capturing and analyzing
audiovisual data smoothly and consistently.
