The Abbreviations of African American Civil Rights 1970-Present Katherine Desloge

The EEOC is an independent Federal Law Enforcement that enforces the law against discrimination in the workplace. It’s power was boosted in 1990 when President Bush signed a new law counteracting the weakening of employment-discrimination law. It expanded the anti-discrimination law to cover racial groups. ,[object Object]

The OMBE was created in 1969 by president Nixon, and it played a key role in his civil rights policy throughout the early 1970’s. It made possible the building of 60 out of the 100 largest black owned businesses in America by 1974. ,[object Object]

Jesse Jackson created PUSH in December of 1971. He created this to promote the attention of minority education. It has expanded it’s field and focused on national issues such as education and national politics. ,[object Object]

The CBTU was started in September 1972 when civil rights leaders came together to discuss the role of black trade unionists in the labor movement. Since the start of the organization it has help to improve the influence and power of black workers in the trade union movement and in their own communities. ,[object Object]

The NBFO was founded in 1973 by a group that worked to address the issues facing black women in America. They first called together to discuss the Black women and their relationship with the Feminist Movement. They focus on the prejudice that faces black women such as sexism, racism, classism, and homophobia. ,[object Object]
