1. The screen tempo for the E4 ident is very
fast. It has quick Sharpe animations which
gives the viewer many things to look at
and focus on in a short amount of time.
However this screen tempo makes the E4
ident better. It makes the ident more
interesting and exciting for the viewers.
On the other hand channel 4 ident
screen tempo is much slower.There is
less happening.This is so the viewer can
focus and notice small changes in the
ident helping them to see the number 4
that is shown through a small part of the
ident.The slow screen tempo makes it
easier to focus but if there isn’t a lot of
change then the viewer would bet bored
and look away.
2. Each ident for various different channels are all around 10-15
seconds.This is because if they are any longer then the
viewer would get bored, and if they was any shorter they
may not have enough playing time to get there message
across. Also another reason for them being short is due to
the channel only wanting to inform and remind the viewer
what channel they are watching.
Most ident use the majority of the screen space.
However ident’s like MTV have a main landscape
area which is the background and then they have
a main subject that happen in the middle of the
screen.This is the main focus point and as the
ident is only short they don’t notice the space
that nothing Is happening in.
3. Different channels have different idents.This is due to the fact that their channels all have a
different target audience.They choose the colors which are used to catch the attention of the
people they are targeting. Such as nickelodeon, they choose bright vibrant colors such as
orange as it will catch the attention of younger people.The ideas and concepts of the idents are
also based on the target audience. Each channel has more than one ident this may be because
of what program is being played next and also due to the time of day. Each channel has there
own unique ident designed and created to fit the target audience they have chosen.
4. The min idea of the ident is to remind the viewer what channel they are watching. However
channel such as BBC 1 have a voice overplaying he ident.This voice is telling the reader
information about the next program that is about to be shown. Some voices may add an odd
funny comment to make it more interesting to hear. It gives the ident a sense of humor.
Every ident has their channels logo. It may have
been designed to fit in with what is happening
within the ident or it may be it normal format
logo.
5. The information on an ident Is mainly produced by a voice over the top of the playing ident.They
give a brief description on what show is either playing or going to be played.The ident I being
played at the same time, this is the entertainment side.The commentary finishes just before the
ident does.This gives the viewer a few seconds to adjust and realize what they are watching.
6. The branding of the ident is mainly down to the
colors used, what colors are used to appeal and
grab the attention of the users.The branding
could also be where the channels logo appears
on the screen, how big it is and how long it is
shown for. Many BBC One ident have there logo
large ad in a color that stands out so it can easily
be read.
The branding could also include the voice
of the speaker, the voice has to be clear
and loud but most importantly it has to
accompany the viewers. It cant be to
feminine or to mescaline.
7. Many channels have more than 1 ident, they change
and update there idents over a certain amount of
time, this is due to many different reasons.They may
feel that it is getting overplayed, boring for viewers,
they make and bring a new one out to show they are
still in the ‘business’.They bring a more modern up
to date ident out. Showing how they are different to
other channels.
A channel may also bring more than 1
ident out at a time, so the various idents
are played through different parts of
the day, meaning that a single ident will
be seen less and will have a impact on
people for a longer amount of time.
8. Marketing is the channels target audience.
They have to create an ident that will catch the
attention of their pacific age group.They have
to advertise and present the ident well other
wise it wont catch the viewers they want to
impress and most importantly if the channel
ident is tacky and un attractive then the people
that are watching will think the same about
their programs meaning they loose viewers.

10. This is when the idents are played.They are
scattered out in-between channels.The
idents are played before a new program
starts and when it finishes.Also some
channels have a short and long version
ident.The short version is sometimes
played just as the adverts are going to be
played and when the program is going to
continue.
11. The scheduling of an ident is
when it is played. Most idents
are played before and after
programs, however some
idents are played before and
after intervals just to remind
the viewer what channel they
are watching.
