Visual Arts As A Compulsory Subject
Visual Arts' Position as a Compulsory Subject Visual arts are forms of art which are visual, such as
painting, sculpture, photography and drawing. Visual arts is studied as a compulsory subject in
many countries such as Finland. However, it is often debated if visual arts belong to the school
curriculum as it is not one of the academic subjects that are regularly considered more significant to
a student's education. Visual arts need constant validation and evidence that the art studies are in
fact useful. Yet the compulsory education of visual arts is important and has many advantages to
students' learning along with their personal growth. The studies of visual arts can for example
contribute to the building of a healthy mentality. In fact, visual arts promote stable mental health and
healthy self–expression. Visual arts are some of the common methods used in art therapy, and they
have been proven ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it has several advantages to a student. The studies of visual arts help a student's mental
health through offering a healthy way of self–expression and a decrease in stress levels. In addition,
it advances creativity, hand–eye coordination, 3D–visualization and perception, which are useful
skills in many jobs and which can develop students' study methods. Interdisciplinary education of
visual arts and other subjects gives depth to understanding of concepts. Similarly, discussing arts
makes students consider different points of view, and visual arts balances academic and more
interesting subjects. Yet many critics consider the academic subjects more important and essential
for a student's future, even though the visual arts education has numerous benefits to a student's
development and studies. Based on the several advantages a student gains from the studies of visual
arts, it is highly beneficial to teach it as a compulsory

Visual Art Plan By Otto Dix And James Gleeson
Visual art Plan
Artists all around the world have used metaphor in their pieces of work to convey meaning. "A
figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally
applicable." Most if not all pieces of art you can see in a museum or out on the street have remanets
of metaphor beneath them. Artists use metaphor in their work to tell a story or a time period or in
this case meaning. As the old saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words. The artist distorts the
image to the way he or she wants to see it or would want others to see it. For example, Otto Dix and
James Gleeson are artists that are known for having and using metaphor and spirituality in their
pieces of work. Otto Dix has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otto Dix was a great artist. His paintings were very strong with spirituality and metaphor this was
because he served in the first world war. Many of his paintings were of the first wold war because
Dix volunteered and became a machine gunner which exposed him to see death daily. Through his
experiences in the war he gained a lot of knowledge and saw a lot of things. One of his pieces stood
out to me the most. That piece was the wounded soldier. In this picture I can see a muddy ground
with blood splattered everywhere. The ground and the soldier almost looks like he is decaying. The
soldiers face has an expression of confusion and elements of fear across him. Given his mouth is
wide open it looks like he is in enormous amounts of pain and looks like he is screaming. This could
be the face of a person going through their last seconds before they die or get shot. His hand is
squeezing his heart like he got shot in the area. His helmet seems to be dirty and bloody as almost
like he has been here for a long time.
The work has been put together very well according to the elements and principles of art. The lines
in the art work are very bold and revealing. The lines are clearly outlining the wounded soldier and
what is movements and actions are at the current time of him being painted. The colour of this art
work is in black and white but even though it is in black and white Dix has done a good job of
telling us what things are

Innovation from the Point of View of Visual Arts
INTRODUCTION
Innovation is the creation of better or more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or
ideas that are accepted by markets, governments, and society. Innovation differs from invention in
that innovation refers to the use of a new idea or method, whereas invention refers more directly to
the creation of the idea or method itself. Innovation and HRM
Innovation describes creativity, In terms of visual art, innovation belongs to a fine art and now we
will try to describe innovation from the point of visual arts to define the innovation importance in an

Exhibition is a source of income so it will directly affect the stakeholders as they are also a part of
this institute so they will also look for their benefits and if we will organize any kind of exhibition
student will get a chance to expose their talents in front of viewers. The knowledge sharing totally
based on arts where quality, competence, uniqueness and student interest will come in front which
will increment the skills as well awareness of the institute in Emirati society.
Art is basically related with imagination and creativity and we can't make anybody learn art in a
close room and we need to visit different places like religious places, traditional places, hill stations,
and nature's creativity where one can get a deep breath of sense in imagining the aesthetics of mind
and heart. It is not necessary that you will always express what you want to express in a paper but it
is important that what you express also makes a sense and also has uniqueness in itself.
Teachers will be very friendly and thought process will be very broad for a teacher, sense of
imagining will be very fast and a teacher will have strong imagination power. Children need an open
place where he can think of creating something because a thought cannot come from a close
window. It requires some sort of visualization which is possible only when he or she will get a

Visual Arts Project Analysis
I'm highly interested in proposing ways to create an artistic program for underprivileged youth.
After coming across young children from low–income during my media project in Romania, it has
inspired me to implement a program to engage youth with the arts. Some students are often gifted
with the opportunity to pursue their artistic expression; I want to help children who don't have the
same equity to enjoy visual arts education in their spare time. In addition, from my previous
experience with arts in high school, I want to provide a program that gives the same opportunities of
artistic expression and leadership skills for young students in marginalized communities in the
Greater Toronto Area.
The project I may pursue is to implement a creative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

grades 7 or 8 report having a specialist visual arts teacher. . ." (Gill 5). In this report, it listed several
ways in which the arts education is lacking among elementary and high schools in Ontario. The
benefits for my proposed arts program is it will help expand the access for arts education outside of
school in Ontario. My program can do this by providing visual arts classes that will teach children
how to paint, draw, and sketch while relieving stress among participants. My program will be able
to reach out to students passionate for the arts that don't have the proper arts programing in their

Visual Art : My Passion For Visual Education
I have always struggled with anxiety. I constantly worry about things I have no control over and
often obsess over the safety of my loved ones. Despite the severity of my anxiety attacks, I have
always refused to take medication to control my worrying. Thankfully, in eighth grade, I discovered
visual art. Drawing has always provided me with a mental paradise. When I create art, I can control
what happens to my piece, which helps alleviate my issues with lacking control over most
situations. As a child, art eased my concerns that I was the "weird kid" as I was the only one out of
my family and my small charter school that suffered from severe anxiety. As bell hooks noted in her
memoir, Bone Black, "The books are a new world, I am less alone" (78). I immediately related this
quote to the way I felt when I discovered my passion for visual art. I find it extremely upsetting that
the arts are usually the first programs to receive budget cuts when schools experience funding
shortages. I know I could not imagine my life without art, as I know hooks could not imagine hers
without reading, writing and poetry. According to the National Assembly of State Art Agencies,
students of rural and low income families are most often left without proper art education. Art
programs are especially susceptible to budget cuts in schools that have 35% or more of students
labeled as "at risk" for academic failure (Chapman 13). Additionally, art programs continually suffer
budget cuts as more school

Your Name: Austin Brogley
Name of the Visual Art Event: Once in a Blue Moon: Work by Wisconsin Pastel Artists
Date you attended the event 12/12/16 (Review must be turned in within 14 days of this date.)
Where was the event held? Robert Avonn Fiskum Art Gallery
1. Briefly describe the event as a whole. (Was there a common theme or message? Are the works
organized by chronology, theme or medium? What kinds of media were represented? How was the
gallery laid out?)
The common theme was something that was rare or special in nature. The works were organized by
the artist who painted it. All the works that one painter painted were put by each other, and so the
works were organized by the artist name except for the stand alone walls. That was were award

the room with two stand–alone walls set up in the middle to display more pieces.

The work is a picture of a lake at sunset that is covered with water lilies. The medium was pastel.
The composition of the work draws your eyes to where the sun meets the trees. That is where there
is the widest array of colors. The colors of the work create a cool feeling near the surface of the
water, but the sky creates a warm feeling. So there is a contrast of temperatures created by the work.
The second work is call The Old Shed. The piece of work is an old abandon shed in the woods that
is being reclaimed by nature. The medium of the work is pastel. The composition has a linear

How Did Henri Michaux Influence Visual Art Creativeness?
Visual art has been highly appreciated and has become popular since the second half of the
nineteenth century, during which the public gradually get familiar with the visual art and its
applications. In the late nineteenth century, when artists began to utilize distinctive materials and
various techniques on their work, there are a lot of innovative works done by masters whose names
have been marked ever since. Their stories passed down through generations. Henri Michaux is one
of the most well–known artists in that period of time. Michael always made metaphor for objects
mentioned in his painting. His paintings always remained figurative, in–spite of all tendencies
towards abstraction. His inspiration was from the real world but even ... Show more content on

He had a great influence by spreading eastern ideas and painting techniques to the contemporary
western world. "In his poetry and his painting, Michaux explores the movements of the world within
seeking a heightened awareness of the continually evolving self while experimenting with the
possibilities of artistic expression. Having developed an ideology of perpetual movement as the
basis of human existence, and having defined 'self' as a momentary position of equilibrium in an
ever–changing reality,1 Michaux considers writing and painting to be the signs of that movement as
well as the tools which aid him in self–exploration."(Edson) Michaux is an artist who wants the
world to understand him and his ideas, it is clearly showing in the Price of the Night. With a dark
background, people always think about death, heavy or lifeless, but this is not the main ideas that
Michaux wants the world to know. From his experiences of traveling and humanities, he believes
that there could be more possibilities to the new visual art style and new human development.
Michaux put stars in the sky, within the contraction of light and dark, and those colorful dots bring
life to the plain black sky, and the price, which is in an orange mask. Orange is the color of the sun,
usually uses as a symbol of the life and hope. Even he places himself under the gathering darkness,
he is still gives people a feeling that he is full of passion. And this is what Michaux wanted to
express to the world. Even though there are people still questioning and arguing about his
personalities and his work, there is no doubt he was the pioneer in the visual art development.
Michaux once said, "Western culture should cast off from accumulation, occupation and expansion."
(Berkeley)Recruiting incoming culture, Michaux still retained the strength of western painting and
intergraded them in harmony. Unlike

Visual Arts Education : The Importance Of Art Education
Art Education is an intricate dance between what is needed, wanted, and reflected by society. The
ancient Greeks had a belief that those who created, such as a craftsman, should be shown little
respect or appreciation. The importance was placed on music and the affluent did not participate in
the visual arts. Even though there was resistance, Plato was a visual arts advocate and the Greek's
granted visual arts its own curriculum. The Romans maintained this position on the visual arts.
However, in the Middle Ages, monks began to practice art; such as the Illuminated Manuscripts.
They would then train others extensively in apprenticeships. New technologies, brought new
processes that were taught in this same time consuming workshop fashion. The Renaissance, and its
focus on beauty and the figure, brought a new attitude of respect and admiration for the visual arts.
It was taught as classical training along with the workshops. The French developed a more
structured way of how and what was to be taught concerning the visual arts in their own academies.
However, all of these advances were mostly only available to the rich. This attitude was carried into
colonial America where art was taught as a "luxury pursuit" (Efland, 1990) that was not deemed as
very lucrative. The Industrial Revolution played an important role in the alteration of arts education.
Visual Arts education now needed to include design and production aspects and focuses. At this time

Visual Art Vs Modern Art
As we know it for the most part, visual art today completely differs from the kinds that had been
made before the twentieth century in an indirect way. Realistic depictions of the reality surrounding
us has basically surrendered its place for endeavors to truly pass on the craftsman's internal world
straightforwardly through the assorted variety of colors, shapes, and the means of visual depiction,
which is generally significant. In this manner, the inquiry emerges: in what capacity would it be
advisable for one to truly assess bits of present day workmanship given that customary criteria of
evaluation do not make a difference for this situation? Unlike traditional art, where one can make
judgments and accusations about an artist's skills, composition, and the scene. Present day art ought
to explicitly be assessed in a somewhat unique way.
Despite the fact that there are fundamentally various masterful laws and tenets, any appraisal made
about a bit of artwork generally stays subjective. My belief is that one can most easily explain why
someone really enjoys a particular piece of art, but will for all intents and purposes not be able to
thoroughly persuade those who whole heartedly disagree with them or for the most part have no
artistic taste, which essentially is quite significant. Considering this, for all intents and purposes let
us refer to the work piece: "Saturn Devouring His Son"–a particularly famous painting by the artist
Francisco Goya. In spite of the fact that

Richard Serr Art And Visual Experience
Richard Serra Richard Serra was born in 1938 in San Francisco, California. He studied at the
University of California and at Yale University as well. He is one of the well–known American
artists and sculptors of the Post–Abstract Expressionist period. His work has played a major role in
advancing the tradition of modern abstract sculpture. His work has been able to draw a new
perspective to sculpture by viewers in physical and visual experience. Richard Serra was involved in
the process Art movement and currently works in Tribeca, New York and on Cape Breton Island in
Novia Scotia. I believe the background of the artist has a great contribution to the works he has
created. Living and working the New York could have been the main factor to why Richard Serra
has made these tall structures that kind of represent walls or towers. It may depict how the city of
New York is seen to be portrayed as. Many different kind of buildings and sort of an industrial
looking area with many structures and buildings surrounding the millions of people that walk
through it every single day. This may have been why he had decided to create his sculptures for
people to walk through and around them to see what he is trying to portray. Richard Serra made his
first sculpture out of materials such as fiberglass, rubber, and molten lead. Around 1970s, Serra had
shifted his normal activities and stated to work on large scale site specific sculptures. He creates

The Role Of Visual Arts For Stage Interventions Into The...
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate – in practice and conceptually – the function of the
mirror in visual art, with particular reference to the portrayal of women. By drawing from the field
of art and literature featuring the mirror and reflection, I will be looking at how the work of
contemporary women artists and photographers challenged traditional attitudes and practices. This
dissertation will be about women who use visual arts to stage interventions into the representation of
the 'female self'. The female body and mirror have repeatedly featured in visual art over the
centuries. It is the purpose of my dissertation to discover the reasons behind the use of the mirror in
both western and contemporary art, giving a historical overview of women artists' differing
strategies towards self–portraiture throughout the twentieth century and analysing why this area has
proved so fruitful and inspiring for women. RESEARCH
This research aims to: examine the significance of the mirror in art: – simulation of reality; –
metaphor for framing images: 'In the aesthetic realm, as in philosophical, the frame constructs the
image or the knowledge. The frame places certain material into the centre of discourse and
marginalises others'. (Meskimmon, 1996:4) – definition of the 'self': 'Through seeing itself in the
mirror with the mother, the infant is enable to differentiate its polymorphous experiences of its body

Visual Art Reflection Papers
During the short six weeks of Art Therapy class I was surprised on all the positive things I learned
in such short period of time. We covered different modalities in Art therapy which encouraged
participants to be creative and make use of their imagination. For this intermodal Art experience
paper I created a visual art poster that expressed my current feelings and emotions. I began to look
for images that expressed my personal emotional state; I was surprised with what emerged from my
visual art poster. It illustrated visual images of stress on one side to images of success on the
opposite side. There was so much nonverbal expression in one piece of visual art, as it spoke for
itself without words. As I contemplated the poster and its messages, I moved to a second modality,
in response to the visual art poster I wrote a poem in response to the Art piece. The poem came
about naturally; my feelings flowed into words which made me feel good about the visual art poster
that I had created. As an inexperienced poetry writer I felt that my poem was not as good as an
experienced poetry writer. However I still tried it, as I began to write I began to think of what
message the visual art poster conveyed to me, including what emotions it provoked. Several
questions came to mind, what were the visual images on the poster saying about me? And why did I
create such piece? Author Malchiodi (2007) notes that "First, art expression is thought to be a form

Compare And Contrast Literacy And Visual Arts
Literacy art, visual arts, and music are all very different ways of expressing oneself. Literacy art is
way to express yourself through words and put in the emotion that one is feeling when writing
literature. When one is writing literature you are able to express not only your emotion, but also the
emotions that the other characters are feeling in the story. When you are able to read about every
characters emotion, you are able to understand the situation from another person's point of view and
how they reacted. Visual art is a different way to express how you feel or how someone else may
feel. When you aren't able to express how you feel or something in literature try expressing it in a
piece of artwork, it might be easier. Visual arts

Reflection Of Visual Art
1a. Central focus for the segment
The central focus of the lesson is for students to demonstrate and show use of space, contrast, and
balance while creating an original idea that displays and the use of positive and negative space in an
equal amount. The purpose is for students to understand the elements and principles of visual arts,
which are value, contrast and balance. Students also learn how these concepts are still being used in
today's society.
1b. Linking skills, knowledge, and context
This is a first year class, so many students are unfamiliar with terms, such as value, contrast, space,
and balance, in terms of art. The students are familiar with the words, but are unfamiliar with how it
pertains to art. New definitions and techniques are introduced in this lesson. Students will continue
to use these new vocabulary terms in future lessons.
In this project students are required to make a total positive space image. To complete this, students
are to use line and shape in their design. The previous projects and lessons in this course focused on
the use of line and shape, so this project reinforces those terms and techniques so students will use
them in future projects.
The last aspect of this assignment is for students to see how the use of space makes interesting
designs. I show the students images of logos and symbols that effectively use positive and negative
space. With this, students can relate to the images and see how these techniques are still being used

Example Of Visual Art Critique
Visual Art Critique
For my visual art critique, I attend the Texas State University Wittliff Collections on Tuesday,
October tenth. During my visit I viewed works of art from the Lonesome Dove collection. The first
piece of work I critiques was the photograph "Crossing the Rio Grande" taken by Bill Wittliff. This
photo was taken on the set of the Lonesome Dove in 1988. What stood out to me was the
significance of how real this photo is. So many slaves have tried to cross this river to escape
persecution and slavery. Although, in this instance the photo is depicting three cowboys or horseman
crossing the Rio Grande River in pursuit of cattle driving thousands of cattle from Texas up north to
Montana. Although this photo is quite iconic in relation to this history of Texas I do not believe this
piece of work along with many others from this exhibit should be deemed canonical. I personally
rate this piece of work a four and a half, out of ten simply because while it is a great piece of art; it
is the type of work I would like to hang in my bathroom above my toilet so while I am urinating I
can view a nice "manly" piece of art.
The second piece I critiqued was also a photo from the set of "Lonesome Dove". The second piece
of art was titled "Gus on Porch," and was also taken by Bill Wittliff. This piece of work was very
interesting to me because although I am not from Texas, I believe that this photo depicts how many
outsiders of Texas, view the states past. This photo features

John Ashbery's Influence On Visual Art
The poetry of the New York School artists is exceptionally affected by visual art; the artists, for
example, Frank O'Hara, and John Ashbery were influenced basically by Abstract Expressionism,
Surrealism, Cubism, and Dada. The motivation behind why visual workmanship had such a solid
impact on their poetry is that the painters of the New York School ruled the art world, they set the
patterns, and writers and artists follow them. Additionally, visual craftsmanship played a noteworthy
part in the lives of the artists as a number of them were art reviewers and they frequently worked
together with the artists. The thesis of this paper concentrates on the Marcel Duchamp's art influence
on John Ashbery poetry, especially Daffy Duck in Hollywood.

Power's Influence On The Visual Arts Of Germany
History suggests that a concentration of power leads to systemic inequalities through unjust
representation in political institutions and social status. This can be seen through various examples,
however, the most prominent being Hitler's strong influence on the visual arts of Germany and how
the excessive power of Wall Street's strong control on finance, the government, and certain policies.
Throughout the mid 20th century, there are many instances where power has led to systemic

Visual Arts And Art Education
This essay is about visual arts/design education, visual culture education and a brief history of visual
art/design education. This essay aims to explore the connections of arts education, history of arts

The continued success of art education should be focused on studying art through individual

lives of learners unless they are better integrated into the art education curriculum (Mcfee 1960:18).

Visual and Cultural Art
For my visual and cultural arts essay I visited the James E Lewis museum at Morgan State
University. For my essay I have selected key pieces of art that I believe express the African
experience in terms of their social, ethnographical and theological beliefs. This paper will also
attempt to draw a comparison to key themes features in the African Creation myths, which will
further elucidate the meanings hidden in these various works of art. It is my belief that this paper
will not only serve as a guide into the philosophical ideas of the African peoples but will help to
juxtapose these ideas with the often false premise purported by certain groups of society, which
would like to view Africans as primitive and uncultured. My first piece is the Benin bronze leopard.

reverence. The idea of the society is that the Oba is divine, and as such the lives of all those who
live under his rule revolve around his divinity. This divinity is represented by the various bronze
plaques. The leopard has been regarded as a symbol of strength and fortitude for many years in the
Benin Kingdom. This bronze cast

Art Is The Visual Manifestation And Application Of Human...
Art is the visual manifestation and application of human creativity, typically executed through
painting or sculpture. Art is multifunctional, in that it has the ability to transcend the visual by
evoking an emotional response in a non–verbal way. In art, artists are able to utilize their medium to
connect their personal message to the audience in a non– traditional manner. Disarming the
audience by presenting a new perspective on critical issues through the implementation of art and
can help combat problems concerning identity politics and stereotypes. Artists have the aptitude to
inspire change in their world by shattering conventional thinking on canvas. The biography and
artworks of artist Jean LaMarr demonstrates this very notion. By analyzing artworks such as
LaMarr's Dolly Digle's Friend, one can see how the message of her artwork goes beyond the
expectations of the canvas, surpass the visual experience and challenge the audience to confront
stereotypes as she reclaims her Native American identity. Jean LaMarr was born on the Susanville
Indian Rancheria in California. The Pit River and Paiute artist works primarily now as a printmaker,
however still paints, and still participated in creating video productions as well as installations. The
now nationwide known community–arts activist has revolutionized her practices by taking her gift
outside the studio and into the world by working with local Native youth in the creation of
community murals. Jean LaMarr is not

Essay about A Critical Visual Analysis of a Work of Art
A Critical Visual Analysis of a Work of Art The piece of art that I chose to do my critical visual
analysis on will be the Birds of Paradise, painted by Frits van Eeden, in 1997. (Birds of Paradise)
Eeden was born in Tilburg, Holland, in March 1944 and grew up in The Hague. (Frits Van Eeden)
For the Birds of Paradise he used acrylic paint on canvas. This piece of art is located in the Evans
Library, at Florida Tech, in Melbourne, FL. When I look at the picture I see birds helping each other,
they seem to have harmony. One can get an impression of how people can co–exist with one
another. The Birds of Paradise is a beautiful and bright color bird. They represent joyfulness and
paradise. In this picture, they look like cranes. I don't ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eeden made the birds in his piece of art to look three–dimensional. When you have three–
dimensional shapes, the results seem to be some kind of form. In order to have form in art you have
to have height, width, and depth to enhance the texture, color, and tone in a given piece of art. The
overall organization also implies the form. With this piece of art, Eeden took the six birds which are
standing and organized them to appear symmetrically to be in a particular pattern. He put the birds
in a sculptural kind of design to make them look three–dimensional. One of the birds seems to be
picking something off of the bird beside him. They seem to be caring for each other. Eeden has used
geometrical shapes to draw the birds. The curves of the birds are simple. The background of this
piece of art shows that it is a sunny, calm day with a strip of blue sky above the birds. The ground
seems to nonexistent. You can't see where the bird's feet meet the ground or maybe they are standing
in water. The quality given to a piece of art work is through the use of light. When asked about light
in art they are asking about the sun rays, candles, moons, flames, and many other sources of light.
Artist use light to create contrast in a given space. In Eeden's picture, Birds of Paradise, the birds are
in the light. He is demonstrating the type of environment the birds are living in. This explains why
you can see the bird's feet because the

Sexism In Visual Arts
I selected Penn State University specifically for their dual degree program in women's studies. My
interest is researching visual culture and imagery of Black female artists expressed in diverse
societies; in everyday life, in art education, and from feminist perspectives. These areas reflect my
general interest both as an artist, educator, and researcher. I have first–hand experiences of being
marginalized based one's race and gender, and being stereotyped based on the imagery of black
women in the media.
I began drawing as a little girl and looked at artists like Norman Rockwell, Ernie Barnes, and
Georgia O'Keefe as a source for inspiration, however, I wondered was there any black female artists.
It wasn't until I took an undergraduate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My first paper in women's studies applied critical race feminism theory of Berry (2014) and I
interviewed five black female artists. Enthusiastic about having their narrative told I understood the
need to pursue the question, is there a black feminist art movement to support and protect black
women artists? Troubled by the answer I received from the interviewees, I realized I was not the
only one feeling alone. Guided by black feminist theorists Lorde (2014) otherness, Collins–Hill
(2000) inequality and oppression, I wanted to give these women a platform to share their stories.
After realizing the token black female artists in mainstream art world gave the illusion of equality, I
began to enact a space of feminist consciousness–raising theory (Reed, 2017) for these women to
share their personal experiences to public discussions and turn them into an analysis of the
commonality in inequality (Dill & Zambrana, 2017). Grateful for my opportunities, I realize how
feminist scholarship allows me to create a feminist space to challenge the hegemonic

Literature Review On Visual Art Education
This literature review is concerned with the effective and engaging way to deliver visual art lesson
to students. This is a significant educational topic because research suggests that students'
engagement in the classroom has been distinguished as the important indicator for students'
academic success (Harbour, Evanovich, Sweigart, & Hughes, 2015). Errey and Wood (2011) also
suggest that the higher the level of students' engagement will result in a better learning outcome.
However, many students have fallen in the category of disengage during their classroom practice,
which also includes art classroom. The existing literature on visual art education proven that many
students in art classroom claimed that they were bored and showed resistance in their art classes
(Pennisi, 2013), they were also not as enthusiastic about their art project as the teacher (Andrews,
2010). So, the purpose of this literature review is to discuss several approaches for teachers to
effectively deliver art education in the classroom.
The existing literature on visual art education proven that there is little evidence of how teaching
practice happens in the classroom (Mitchell, 2016). Mitchell (2016) also argues that although there
are several types of research that provide the important information on the foundation of art
educations, there is barely any information that proves how learning effectively occurs in the art
education. This approach might include building a positive relationship (Keeffe, Lovejoy, Spenser–
Jones, & Prain, 2013), the usage of technology in the classroom (Patton & Buffington, 2016),
applying student–centered learning (Andrews, 2010).
Student–centered Learning
It has been discussed that teacher needs to move away from teacher–centered learning and using
student–centered learning instead. In this way, instead of being the commander in the classroom,
teacher act as the facilitator and the guide for students, in which helping students in reaching their
desired art projects. It is also necessary for visual art classroom to provide a condition where
different students develop their own potential abilities (Tomljenovic, 2015). This condition could be
achieved by using student–centered teaching strategies, which

Hailsham students have souls, because visual art is just one specific method of self–expression.
Miss Emily and Madame might choose this particular method of proof because visual art is usually

The Visual Art : Censorship And The Visual Arts
Censorship and the Visual Arts
Censorship is always the party of the arts market. Today, censorship is a remnant of the past that has
almost ceased to exist. But it is very necessary, to form the necessary views among the population,
and it is necessary to control art so that it does not go beyond the bounds of decency. The censorship
is arbitrary limitation (which does not fit any logic, the result of free choice) and often political or
religious freedom of expression. Newspapers, drawings, plays, films, advertisements shall be
examined by a committee representing the power which authorizes the distribution of the latter. It
exists not only in the press but in the world of art, advertising, theaters, music, and literature.
The history of censorship is rooted in the distant past. Even Plato in Athens advocated the expulsion
of poets as troublemakers, embarrassing public mores. Aristotle also advocated censorship. He
believed that art is not indifferent to morality, politics, to the question of personality education,
therefore, when using art as a means of education, strict control over artistic activity must be
observed. Ancient Roman poet Ovid was deported from Rome to a remote province because of the
discrepancy between the ideals of love he propagated to official politics.
Today it is fashionable to scold the Soviet censorship, which, meanwhile, was not only political, but
also artistic, and did not miss frankly weak, unworthy works. Recollect how quickly interest in

objective of the current paper is to examine the importance of visual arts in the Early Modern
Courts, representing the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. It will delve deeper into the significance of
visual art in supporting the political aspirations of individuals. The reasons for collection of art will
also be investigated. Moreover, the research will show why visual art was a vital communication
tool during this time. III. The works of art will include: The Toilet of Venus whereby for this work
of art, several questions including the fundamental motivation for the visual art and the styles used
in the paintings will arise. Art has always held an influential position in the social, economic, and
political lives of humankind. Examining the relationship will open eyes for more studies on the

The Visual Arts, Technology, And Philosophy
One may wonder how much did The Information Age really contribute to society and, more
specifically, the visual arts, technology, and philosophy. The Information Age, as defined by Gloria
K. Fiero, is "dominated by radical changes in the technology of communication and the way we
receive and process information" (Fiero, 476). The Information Age paved the way for several
brilliant artists to not only share their work, but create their work. Artists, such as Andy Warhol,
expressed their artistic abilities in the most unimaginable, yet creative approaches. In the case of
Andy Warhol, Warhol created pop art, which artistically expresses popular culture in means of
creating a compelling commercial advertisement. Furthermore, in the realm of ... Show more

One of the artists responsible for video art would be Nam June Paik. Nam June Paik is a Korean
artist and musician; Paik was known for assembling television sets to create a "rapid–fire assortment
of animated and live–video images drawn from East and West," additionally, Paik's idea allowed for
the creation of the jumbotron, which now allows to host several events close up (Fiero, 493).
Moreover, total art is "the work of art itself" (Fiero, 492). Total art is far from being considered
traditional art, yet it is rather creative and gives insight as to how the product is secondary compared
to the process of creating art. Total art is expressed in the form of performance and ritual.
Additionally, total art can take several different forms such as raves, flash mobs, and basically any
moment that an individual would describe as art. Furthermore, Pop art is more of an extension of
traditional art, yet the art is expressed in a manner that grabs the attention of an individual
witnessing the painting. Pop art seems simplistic, however, pop art also seems to be loud and eye–
piercing. Andy Warhol, the artist behind the creation of pop art, received the idea of pop art through
his experiences as a commercial artist. Since western consumerism seamlessly began to expand,
Warhol gave advertisements more life and personality in order to capture the attention of the
audience. Without artistic freedom and willingness to accept the

The Visual And Performance Arts Of Europe
Welcome, to my traveler's guide to the performing and visual arts. In this guide, you will explore
first hand, the visual and performance arts of Europe.
First, we will look at performance arts of Europe which, date back to early 534 B.C. when Thespis
won the first public contest for tragic poets in Greece. The term "thespian" derives from Thespis's
name. In addition, Thespis also introduced performance masks, which would soon become a staple
of Greek and Roman Theater.
Let's fast forward quite a ways, to 1576, where the first commercial theater is opened in London,
England, becoming the first Elizabeth playhouse in the world. Many performance pieces were
performed here; including many plays from the famous William Shakespeare and, the ... Show more

Visual art, has also been a prominent factor in European culture and society. Visual art began in
Europe during Prehistoric times, somewhere around 30 to 20000 BCE, this art was located in a cave
in Spain and is known as the "El Castillo Cave Art", which is so far, the oldest known cave paintings
in the world. Going further in time, European artwork is emboldened by many great painters and
architects such as Leonardo DaVinci and Michelangelo; whom were famous for some of the greatest
canvas and architectural paintings known in the world today. Most of these paintings from these
artist, can be found in our next location, The Louvre, in Paris, France.
The Louvre, was built in 1190, as a fortress to the Empire of France. The LeMusee du Louvre, is
located along the banks of the Seine River, in Paris. The Louvre, was reconstructed after it's time as
a fortress, to serve as a royal palace. Its expansion continued over the years, covering a total area of
now 652, 300 square feet, much more than its original square footage of less than 600,000. In 1793,

The Cultural Value Of Visual Art
In this chapter I will look at the cultural value attributed to works of visual art that use destruction as
a tool in their creation. Art that specifically and mindfully deals with destruction shows the complex
process involved in a way that audiences can interact with. 'Only up close do you see that a process
of destruction is taking place which is as complex as the process of creation.' (Dorment, 2001).
When presented in a dedicated space and given the label of art, it becomes difficult and almost
pointless to try and separate and distinguish what is destruction and what is creation as they amount
to the same thing. Art created from destructive processes is valued when placed in spaces dedicated
to cultural and artistic purposes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Break Down was a project for which during a two–week period in 2001 the artist Michael Landy
systematically destroyed every last one of his possessions. Destruction and deconstruction of
artwork is used by many contemporary artists to improve, transform and challenge not only the
physical materials they choose to work with but also preconceptions and aesthetics within society
(Boldrick, 2013). Landy on the other hand took the process of destruction within art to a much more
personal level. Once Artangel had selected his proposal for the project for funding, Landy began an
inventory of his possessions; a task that he thought might take a few weeks but actually took three
years to complete. The 7,227 items, including Landy's car, passport and his entire collection of art
(his own and other artists') were systematically destroyed by a team of operatives using a custom
built conveyor belt and machines to crush, shred and pulverize the objects until only powder
remained. Landy says that he saw it as 'the ultimate consumer choice ...One way or other I 'm trying
to get rid of myself, so it 's kind of the ultimate way without actually dispensing of me.' (Artangel,
2001) and regretted that, straight away after the project finished he had to go out and buy more

Graphic Design And Visual Arts
Graphic design and Visual arts are two different artistic fields. The field of Graphic design, which is
responsible for creating solutions that, has a high visual impact. The role involves listening to
clients and understanding their needs before making design decisions. Designs by graphic designers
are required for huge variety of products and activities, such as websites, advertising, books,
magazines, posters, computer games/video games, product packaging, exhibitions and displays.
Visual arts on the other hand are art forms such as ceramic, drawing, painting, sculptures and
photography and architecture. The difference in visual arts and graphic design is that many people
do not think of graphic designers as being artist and they should only be referred to as designers.
Visual Arts People, argue that designing is a skill and art is a God given gift. Graphic design majors

Visual Arts In Latin America And The United States

history of visual arts in both Latin America and the United States, one notes that visual artists have
fomented revolution by altering aesthetic practices and transforming social contexts. One compares
modern graffiti tags and pieces, defined as "unauthorized writing or drawing on a public surface," to
other visual art forms such as sketchbook work, prints, murals, and portable frescoes because all

Art And Visual Culture : The Joseon Dynasty
The Joseon Dynasty was declared by Yi Seonggye, best known as King Taejo, in the late fourteenth
century. King Taejo 's foundation for the new empire was based on the rejection of the Goryeo
Dynasty, the state religion of Buddhism, and his desire for a Neo–Confucianist society. The new
standards of Neo–Confucianism significantly affected the art and visual culture produced during this
period of Korean history. During the Joseon period, paintings were considered a form of visual
enlightenment for the Korean people. Painting, calligraphy, playing music, and playing the game
paduk were regarded as the "Four Accomplishments that were expected of a learned man." The
understanding and skill of painting is also said "to be necessary for cultural and intellectual
refinement." As a result, the Korean government created academies for men of jungin status to
become poets and painters. Many Korean artists were greatly inspired by the ink paintings of
Chinese literati artists and masters. The three most interesting topics in Korean painting are
landscape, genre, and portraiture due to their progressions in style over time, as well as the variation
in techniques that artists used. Significant examples of Korean landscape painting include An Gyeon
's Dream Journey to Peach Blossom Land and Jeong Seon 's The Diamond Mountains. Genre

Art Vs Visual Art
Visual art as we know it today is completely different from what had been created before the 20th
century. Realistic depictions of the surrounding reality has given up its place in favor of attempts to
convey the artist's inner world directly through the diversity of shapes, colors, and means of visual
depiction. Hence, a reasonable question arises: how should one evaluate pieces of modern art given
that traditional criteria of assessment do not apply easily in this case? Unlike traditional art, where
one can make judgments about the scene, an artist's skills, and composition, modern art should be
evaluated in a slightly different manner. Even though there are numerous artistic laws and rules, any
assessment made about a piece of art remains subjective; I believe one can easily explain why
someone likes a particular piece of art, but will not be able to persuade those who disagree with
them or have no artistic taste. Considering this, let us refer to "Scream"–a famous painting by
Edward Munch. Though it was painted more than 110 years ago, it still makes a perfect example of
modern art. Personally, I usually evaluate paintings by their lucidity, strength of artistic means (such
as composition, coloring, and so on), and the creator's ability to communicate with the audience
through a canvas. Despite its expressionistic, distorted shapes and disturbing colors (which will be
discussed later) "Scream" is still a realistic painting, performed in an expressionist manner. Its

Visual Arts As A Compulsory Subject

  • 1. Visual Arts As A Compulsory Subject Visual Arts' Position as a Compulsory Subject Visual arts are forms of art which are visual, such as painting, sculpture, photography and drawing. Visual arts is studied as a compulsory subject in many countries such as Finland. However, it is often debated if visual arts belong to the school curriculum as it is not one of the academic subjects that are regularly considered more significant to a student's education. Visual arts need constant validation and evidence that the art studies are in fact useful. Yet the compulsory education of visual arts is important and has many advantages to students' learning along with their personal growth. The studies of visual arts can for example contribute to the building of a healthy mentality. In fact, visual arts promote stable mental health and healthy self–expression. Visual arts are some of the common methods used in art therapy, and they have been proven ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it has several advantages to a student. The studies of visual arts help a student's mental health through offering a healthy way of self–expression and a decrease in stress levels. In addition, it advances creativity, hand–eye coordination, 3D–visualization and perception, which are useful skills in many jobs and which can develop students' study methods. Interdisciplinary education of visual arts and other subjects gives depth to understanding of concepts. Similarly, discussing arts makes students consider different points of view, and visual arts balances academic and more interesting subjects. Yet many critics consider the academic subjects more important and essential for a student's future, even though the visual arts education has numerous benefits to a student's development and studies. Based on the several advantages a student gains from the studies of visual arts, it is highly beneficial to teach it as a compulsory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Visual Art Plan By Otto Dix And James Gleeson Visual art Plan Artists all around the world have used metaphor in their pieces of work to convey meaning. "A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable." Most if not all pieces of art you can see in a museum or out on the street have remanets of metaphor beneath them. Artists use metaphor in their work to tell a story or a time period or in this case meaning. As the old saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words. The artist distorts the image to the way he or she wants to see it or would want others to see it. For example, Otto Dix and James Gleeson are artists that are known for having and using metaphor and spirituality in their pieces of work. Otto Dix has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Otto Dix was a great artist. His paintings were very strong with spirituality and metaphor this was because he served in the first world war. Many of his paintings were of the first wold war because Dix volunteered and became a machine gunner which exposed him to see death daily. Through his experiences in the war he gained a lot of knowledge and saw a lot of things. One of his pieces stood out to me the most. That piece was the wounded soldier. In this picture I can see a muddy ground with blood splattered everywhere. The ground and the soldier almost looks like he is decaying. The soldiers face has an expression of confusion and elements of fear across him. Given his mouth is wide open it looks like he is in enormous amounts of pain and looks like he is screaming. This could be the face of a person going through their last seconds before they die or get shot. His hand is squeezing his heart like he got shot in the area. His helmet seems to be dirty and bloody as almost like he has been here for a long time. The work has been put together very well according to the elements and principles of art. The lines in the art work are very bold and revealing. The lines are clearly outlining the wounded soldier and what is movements and actions are at the current time of him being painted. The colour of this art work is in black and white but even though it is in black and white Dix has done a good job of telling us what things are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Innovation from the Point of View of Visual Arts INTRODUCTION Innovation is the creation of better or more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or ideas that are accepted by markets, governments, and society. Innovation differs from invention in that innovation refers to the use of a new idea or method, whereas invention refers more directly to the creation of the idea or method itself. Innovation and HRM Innovation describes creativity, In terms of visual art, innovation belongs to a fine art and now we will try to describe innovation from the point of visual arts to define the innovation importance in an organization which expresses different types of activities and there can be no better place than a visual art institute for children who have talent of fine arts ... Exhibition is a source of income so it will directly affect the stakeholders as they are also a part of this institute so they will also look for their benefits and if we will organize any kind of exhibition student will get a chance to expose their talents in front of viewers. The knowledge sharing totally based on arts where quality, competence, uniqueness and student interest will come in front which will increment the skills as well awareness of the institute in Emirati society. Art is basically related with imagination and creativity and we can't make anybody learn art in a close room and we need to visit different places like religious places, traditional places, hill stations, and nature's creativity where one can get a deep breath of sense in imagining the aesthetics of mind and heart. It is not necessary that you will always express what you want to express in a paper but it is important that what you express also makes a sense and also has uniqueness in itself. Teachers will be very friendly and thought process will be very broad for a teacher, sense of imagining will be very fast and a teacher will have strong imagination power. It requires some sort of visualization which is possible only when he or she will get a chance to have a look of this world's beauty made by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Visual Arts Project Analysis I'm highly interested in proposing ways to create an artistic program for underprivileged youth. After coming across young children from low–income during my media project in Romania, it has inspired me to implement a program to engage youth with the arts. Some students are often gifted with the opportunity to pursue their artistic expression; I want to help children who don't have the same equity to enjoy visual arts education in their spare time. In addition, from my previous experience with arts in high school, I want to provide a program that gives the same opportunities of artistic expression and leadership skills for young students in marginalized communities in the Greater Toronto Area. The project I may pursue is to implement a creative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The benefits for my proposed arts program is it will help expand the access for arts education outside of school in Ontario. My program can do this by providing visual arts classes that will teach children how to paint, draw, and sketch while relieving stress among participants. • 5. Visual Art : My Passion For Visual Education I have always struggled with anxiety. I constantly worry about things I have no control over and often obsess over the safety of my loved ones. Despite the severity of my anxiety attacks, I have always refused to take medication to control my worrying. Thankfully, in eighth grade, I discovered visual art. Drawing has always provided me with a mental paradise. When I create art, I can control what happens to my piece, which helps alleviate my issues with lacking control over most situations. As a child, art eased my concerns that I was the "weird kid" as I was the only one out of my family and my small charter school that suffered from severe anxiety. As bell hooks noted in her memoir, Bone Black, "The books are a new world, I am less alone" (78). I immediately related this quote to the way I felt when I discovered my passion for visual art. I find it extremely upsetting that the arts are usually the first programs to receive budget cuts when schools experience funding shortages. I know I could not imagine my life without art, as I know hooks could not imagine hers without reading, writing and poetry. According to the National Assembly of State Art Agencies, students of rural and low income families are most often left without proper art education. Art programs are especially susceptible to budget cuts in schools that have 35% or more of students labeled as "at risk" for academic failure (Chapman 13). Additionally, art programs continually suffer budget cuts as more school ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. How Did Henri Michaux Influence Visual Art Creativeness? Visual art has been highly appreciated and has become popular since the second half of the nineteenth century, during which the public gradually get familiar with the visual art and its applications. In the late nineteenth century, when artists began to utilize distinctive materials and various techniques on their work, there are a lot of innovative works done by masters whose names have been marked ever since. Their stories passed down through generations. Henri Michaux is one of the most well–known artists in that period of time. Michael always made metaphor for objects mentioned in his painting. His paintings always remained figurative, in–spite of all tendencies towards abstraction. His inspiration was from the real world but even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He had a great influence by spreading eastern ideas and painting techniques to the contemporary western world. "In his poetry and his painting, Michaux explores the movements of the world within seeking a heightened awareness of the continually evolving self while experimenting with the possibilities of artistic expression. Having developed an ideology of perpetual movement as the basis of human existence, and having defined 'self' as a momentary position of equilibrium in an ever–changing reality,1 Michaux considers writing and painting to be the signs of that movement as well as the tools which aid him in self–exploration."(Edson) Michaux is an artist who wants the world to understand him and his ideas, it is clearly showing in the Price of the Night. With a dark background, people always think about death, heavy or lifeless, but this is not the main ideas that Michaux wants the world to know. From his experiences of traveling and humanities, he believes that there could be more possibilities to the new visual art style and new human development. Michaux put stars in the sky, within the contraction of light and dark, and those colorful dots bring life to the plain black sky, and the price, which is in an orange mask. Orange is the color of the sun, usually uses as a symbol of the life and hope. Even he places himself under the gathering darkness, he is still gives people a feeling that he is full of passion. And this is what Michaux wanted to express to the world. Even though there are people still questioning and arguing about his personalities and his work, there is no doubt he was the pioneer in the visual art development. Michaux once said, "Western culture should cast off from accumulation, occupation and expansion." • 9. Visual Arts Education : The Importance Of Art Education Art Education is an intricate dance between what is needed, wanted, and reflected by society. The ancient Greeks had a belief that those who created, such as a craftsman, should be shown little respect or appreciation. The importance was placed on music and the affluent did not participate in the visual arts. Even though there was resistance, Plato was a visual arts advocate and the Greek's granted visual arts its own curriculum. The Romans maintained this position on the visual arts. However, in the Middle Ages, monks began to practice art; such as the Illuminated Manuscripts. They would then train others extensively in apprenticeships. New technologies, brought new processes that were taught in this same time consuming workshop fashion. The Renaissance, and its focus on beauty and the figure, brought a new attitude of respect and admiration for the visual arts. It was taught as classical training along with the workshops. The French developed a more structured way of how and what was to be taught concerning the visual arts in their own academies. However, all of these advances were mostly only available to the rich. This attitude was carried into colonial America where art was taught as a "luxury pursuit" (Efland, 1990) that was not deemed as very lucrative. The Industrial Revolution played an important role in the alteration of arts education. Visual Arts education now needed to include design and production aspects and focuses. • 10. Visual Art Vs Modern Art As we know it for the most part, visual art today completely differs from the kinds that had been made before the twentieth century in an indirect way. Realistic depictions of the reality surrounding us has basically surrendered its place for endeavors to truly pass on the craftsman's internal world straightforwardly through the assorted variety of colors, shapes, and the means of visual depiction, which is generally significant. In this manner, the inquiry emerges: in what capacity would it be advisable for one to truly assess bits of present day workmanship given that customary criteria of evaluation do not make a difference for this situation? Unlike traditional art, where one can make judgments and accusations about an artist's skills, composition, and the scene. Present day art ought to explicitly be assessed in a somewhat unique way. Despite the fact that there are fundamentally various masterful laws and tenets, any appraisal made about a bit of artwork generally stays subjective. My belief is that one can most easily explain why someone really enjoys a particular piece of art, but will for all intents and purposes not be able to thoroughly persuade those who whole heartedly disagree with them or for the most part have no artistic taste, which essentially is quite significant. Considering this, for all intents and purposes let us refer to the work piece: "Saturn Devouring His Son"–a particularly famous painting by the artist Francisco Goya. In spite of the fact that ... • 11. Richard Serr Art And Visual Experience Richard Serra Richard Serra was born in 1938 in San Francisco, California. He studied at the University of California and at Yale University as well. He is one of the well–known American artists and sculptors of the Post–Abstract Expressionist period. His work has played a major role in advancing the tradition of modern abstract sculpture. His work has been able to draw a new perspective to sculpture by viewers in physical and visual experience. Richard Serra was involved in the process Art movement and currently works in Tribeca, New York and on Cape Breton Island in Novia Scotia. I believe the background of the artist has a great contribution to the works he has created. Living and working the New York could have been the main factor to why Richard Serra has made these tall structures that kind of represent walls or towers. It may depict how the city of New York is seen to be portrayed as. Many different kind of buildings and sort of an industrial looking area with many structures and buildings surrounding the millions of people that walk through it every single day. This may have been why he had decided to create his sculptures for people to walk through and around them to see what he is trying to portray. • 12. The Role Of Visual Arts For Stage Interventions Into The... INTRODUCTION The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate – in practice and conceptually – the function of the mirror in visual art, with particular reference to the portrayal of women. By drawing from the field of art and literature featuring the mirror and reflection, I will be looking at how the work of contemporary women artists and photographers challenged traditional attitudes and practices. This dissertation will be about women who use visual arts to stage interventions into the representation of the 'female self'. The female body and mirror have repeatedly featured in visual art over the centuries. It is the purpose of my dissertation to discover the reasons behind the use of the mirror in both western and contemporary art, giving a historical overview of women artists' differing strategies towards self–portraiture throughout the twentieth century and analysing why this area has proved so fruitful and inspiring for women. RESEARCH This research aims to: examine the significance of the mirror in art: – simulation of reality; – metaphor for framing images: 'In the aesthetic realm, as in philosophical, the frame constructs the image or the knowledge. The frame places certain material into the centre of discourse and marginalises others'. (Meskimmon, 1996:4) – definition of the 'self': 'Through seeing itself in the mirror with the mother, the infant is enable to differentiate its polymorphous experiences of its body from those of the mother and ... • 14. Visual Art Reflection Papers During the short six weeks of Art Therapy class I was surprised on all the positive things I learned in such short period of time. We covered different modalities in Art therapy which encouraged participants to be creative and make use of their imagination. For this intermodal Art experience paper I created a visual art poster that expressed my current feelings and emotions. I began to look for images that expressed my personal emotional state; I was surprised with what emerged from my visual art poster. It illustrated visual images of stress on one side to images of success on the opposite side. There was so much nonverbal expression in one piece of visual art, as it spoke for itself without words. As I contemplated the poster and its messages, I moved to a second modality, in response to the visual art poster I wrote a poem in response to the Art piece. The poem came about naturally; my feelings flowed into words which made me feel good about the visual art poster that I had created. As an inexperienced poetry writer I felt that my poem was not as good as an experienced poetry writer. However I still tried it, as I began to write I began to think of what message the visual art poster conveyed to me, including what emotions it provoked. Several questions came to mind, what were the visual images on the poster saying about me? And why did I create such piece? The purpose is for students to understand the elements and principles of visual arts, which are value, contrast and balance. Students also learn how these concepts are still being used in today's society. 1b. Linking skills, knowledge, and context This is a first year class, so many students are unfamiliar with terms, such as value, contrast, space, and balance, in terms of art. The students are familiar with the words, but are unfamiliar with how it pertains to art. New definitions and techniques are introduced in this lesson. Students will continue to use these new vocabulary terms in future lessons. In this project students are required to make a total positive space image. To complete this, students are to use line and shape in their design. The previous projects and lessons in this course focused on the use of line and shape, so this project reinforces those terms and techniques so students will use them in future projects. The last aspect of this assignment is for students to see how the use of space makes interesting designs. I show the students images of logos and symbols that effectively use positive and negative space. With this, students can relate to the images and see how these techniques are still being used ... During my visit I viewed works of art from the Lonesome Dove collection. The first piece of work I critiques was the photograph "Crossing the Rio Grande" taken by Bill Wittliff. This photo was taken on the set of the Lonesome Dove in 1988. What stood out to me was the significance of how real this photo is. So many slaves have tried to cross this river to escape persecution and slavery. Although, in this instance the photo is depicting three cowboys or horseman crossing the Rio Grande River in pursuit of cattle driving thousands of cattle from Texas up north to Montana. Although this photo is quite iconic in relation to this history of Texas I do not believe this piece of work along with many others from this exhibit should be deemed canonical. I personally rate this piece of work a four and a half, out of ten simply because while it is a great piece of art; it is the type of work I would like to hang in my bathroom above my toilet so while I am urinating I can view a nice "manly" piece of art. The second piece I critiqued was also a photo from the set of "Lonesome Dove". The second piece of art was titled "Gus on Porch," and was also taken by Bill Wittliff. This piece of work was very interesting to me because although I am not from Texas, I believe that this photo depicts how many outsiders of Texas, view the states past. This photo features ... John Ashbery's Influence On Visual Art The poetry of the New York School artists is exceptionally affected by visual art; the artists, for example, Frank O'Hara, and John Ashbery were influenced basically by Abstract Expressionism, Surrealism, Cubism, and Dada. The motivation behind why visual workmanship had such a solid impact on their poetry is that the painters of the New York School ruled the art world, they set the patterns, and writers and artists follow them. Additionally, visual craftsmanship played a noteworthy part in the lives of the artists as a number of them were art reviewers and they frequently worked together with the artists. Art is multifunctional, in that it has the ability to transcend the visual by evoking an emotional response in a non–verbal way. In art, artists are able to utilize their medium to connect their personal message to the audience in a non– traditional manner. Disarming the audience by presenting a new perspective on critical issues through the implementation of art and can help combat problems concerning identity politics and stereotypes. Artists have the aptitude to inspire change in their world by shattering conventional thinking on canvas. The biography and artworks of artist Jean LaMarr demonstrates this very notion. In order to have form in art you have to have height, width, and depth to enhance the texture, color, and tone in a given piece of art. The overall organization also implies the form. With this piece of art, Eeden took the six birds which are standing and organized them to appear symmetrically to be in a particular pattern. He put the birds in a sculptural kind of design to make them look three–dimensional. One of the birds seems to be picking something off of the bird beside him. They seem to be caring for each other. • 27. Literature Review On Visual Art Education This literature review is concerned with the effective and engaging way to deliver visual art lesson to students. This is a significant educational topic because research suggests that students' engagement in the classroom has been distinguished as the important indicator for students' academic success (Harbour, Evanovich, Sweigart, & Hughes, 2015). Errey and Wood (2011) also suggest that the higher the level of students' engagement will result in a better learning outcome. However, many students have fallen in the category of disengage during their classroom practice, which also includes art classroom. The existing literature on visual art education proven that many students in art classroom claimed that they were bored and showed resistance in their art classes (Pennisi, 2013), they were also not as enthusiastic about their art project as the teacher (Andrews, 2010). So, the purpose of this literature review is to discuss several approaches for teachers to effectively deliver art education in the classroom. The existing literature on visual art education proven that there is little evidence of how teaching practice happens in the classroom (Mitchell, 2016). Mitchell (2016) also argues that although there are several types of research that provide the important information on the foundation of art educations, there is barely any information that proves how learning effectively occurs in the art education. This approach might include building a positive relationship (Keeffe, Lovejoy, Spenser– Jones, & Prain, 2013), the usage of technology in the classroom (Patton & Buffington, 2016), applying student–centered learning (Andrews, 2010). Student–centered Learning It has been discussed that teacher needs to move away from teacher–centered learning and using student–centered learning instead. In this way, instead of being the commander in the classroom, teacher act as the facilitator and the guide for students, in which helping students in reaching their desired art projects. It is also necessary for visual art classroom to provide a condition where different students develop their own potential abilities (Tomljenovic, 2015). Today, censorship is a remnant of the past that has almost ceased to exist. But it is very necessary, to form the necessary views among the population, and it is necessary to control art so that it does not go beyond the bounds of decency. The censorship is arbitrary limitation (which does not fit any logic, the result of free choice) and often political or religious freedom of expression. It exists not only in the press but in the world of art, advertising, theaters, music, and literature. The history of censorship is rooted in the distant past. Even Plato in Athens advocated the expulsion of poets as troublemakers, embarrassing public mores. Aristotle also advocated censorship. He believed that art is not indifferent to morality, politics, to the question of personality education, therefore, when using art as a means of education, strict control over artistic activity must be observed. Ancient Roman poet Ovid was deported from Rome to a remote province because of the discrepancy between the ideals of love he propagated to official politics. • 33. The Cultural Value Of Visual Art In this chapter I will look at the cultural value attributed to works of visual art that use destruction as a tool in their creation. Art that specifically and mindfully deals with destruction shows the complex process involved in a way that audiences can interact with. 'Only up close do you see that a process of destruction is taking place which is as complex as the process of creation.' (Dorment, 2001). When presented in a dedicated space and given the label of art, it becomes difficult and almost pointless to try and separate and distinguish what is destruction and what is creation as they amount to the same thing. Art created from destructive processes is valued when placed in spaces dedicated to cultural and artistic purposes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Break Down was a project for which during a two–week period in 2001 the artist Michael Landy systematically destroyed every last one of his possessions. Destruction and deconstruction of artwork is used by many contemporary artists to improve, transform and challenge not only the physical materials they choose to work with but also preconceptions and aesthetics within society (Boldrick, 2013). Landy on the other hand took the process of destruction within art to a much more personal level. Once Artangel had selected his proposal for the project for funding, Landy began an inventory of his possessions; a task that he thought might take a few weeks but actually took three years to complete. The 7,227 items, including Landy's car, passport and his entire collection of art (his own and other artists') were systematically destroyed by a team of operatives using a custom built conveyor belt and machines to crush, shred and pulverize the objects until only powder remained. Landy says that he saw it as 'the ultimate consumer choice ...One way or other I 'm trying to get rid of myself, so it 's kind of the ultimate way without actually dispensing of me.' (Artangel, 2001) and regretted that, straight away after the project finished he had to go out and buy more products –a toothbrush, a pair of socks– and that he instantly fell back into ... • 34. Argumentative Essay: Performing, Visual, And Fine Arts "2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13..." From the ripe age of 7 I have been a theater kid. The different mediums of art are the main contributors to my worldview, safe space, and overall zest for life. Anyone who says they do not like the arts is a liar. How do I know? Art is everywhere. Art is the book you're reading or the essay you're writing. Art is the structure and design of the interior and exterior of any building you've ever seen or inhabited. Art is the stain glass windows, the hymns you sing, and the bible you read from in your church. Art is your favorite TV show, book, movie, picture, or really anything. So why, I wonder, are the arts so underfunded? Why doesn't the school board care more about the Performing, Visual, and Fine Arts? Got me, but for as long as I can remember, the arts programs in schools have paled in comparison to the math, history, science, or sports programs. I would be in art class, as an elementary schooler, and not be allowed to use up more than a certain amount of construction paper out of fear that there wouldn't be enough left at the end of the year due to lack of school money. The older I've gotten, the more apparent this injustice has become. While APUSH and APLang seem to have a non–stop supply of materials, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everywhere you look there is art. Without the proper funding or support from schools, there won't be any artists left. No artists, no art. No music, no books, no movies, no TV shows, no new dance crazes, no pictures, no paintings, no drawings, no sculptures, no poetry, no articles, no musicals, no plays. Without art we are left with nothing, yet when it comes down to taking AP Art History and AP Physics, what student is going to turn down the heavily funded and resource filled Physics class in favor of a class that has to use Google Images as their ... • 35. Graphic Design And Visual Arts Graphic design and Visual arts are two different artistic fields. The field of Graphic design, which is responsible for creating solutions that, has a high visual impact. The role involves listening to clients and understanding their needs before making design decisions. Designs by graphic designers are required for huge variety of products and activities, such as websites, advertising, books, magazines, posters, computer games/video games, product packaging, exhibitions and displays. Visual arts on the other hand are art forms such as ceramic, drawing, painting, sculptures and photography and architecture. The difference in visual arts and graphic design is that many people do not think of graphic designers as being artist and they should only be referred to as designers. Visual Arts People, argue that designing is a skill and art is a God given gift. Graphic design majors are artist because it takes talent to do what they do; it takes hard work to create complex graphics. They have to come up with a design by sketching it out. Then graphic designers have to bring their art to life using the computer. Both visual artist and graphic designers have a passion for art. They are both creative professions to pursue. Some people argue that Visual Art people are more hands on with their work; they use a lot of physical ability to do their art. Graphic designers use technology to do more of their art. They use objects such as images, symbols, and words to complete ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Visual Arts In Latin America And The United States Many historians agree that graffiti and other related visual arts show "life in motion." Tracing the history of visual arts in both Latin America and the United States, one notes that visual artists have fomented revolution by altering aesthetic practices and transforming social contexts. One compares modern graffiti tags and pieces, defined as "unauthorized writing or drawing on a public surface," to other visual art forms such as sketchbook work, prints, murals, and portable frescoes because all illustrate ideas through writing. Artists have written on the walls of buildings, trains, and many other locations to advertise their nametags and spread their views of race, politics, religion, gender, and economics among the greater public. Nancy MacDonald asks "why...individuals at certain ages select one masculine identity or discourse over another?" and argues that broader socio–economic frameworks influence youth self– expression. The film Wild Style features these subcultural reactions by demonstrating how its graffiti writing protagonist accedes to external pressures to find a paid job yet desires to pursue his own creative style. Zoro, the film Wild Style's protagonist, decides to ignore another youth's jeer that he is "not man enough" to take the only job on the block from that youth; yet, Zoro adapts his suggestion to make money from graffiti by creating highly intricate, illegible spray–painted works alone. As a young male graffiti writer, Zoro balances subcultural subtleties; he operates within the widely–held American desire to make money while resisting macho conflict to make his own creations. Modern graffiti writers tended to make creative choices within normative bounds in contrast to historic Mexican painters who rebelled against hegemony based on common ... • 37. Art And Visual Culture : The Joseon Dynasty The Joseon Dynasty was declared by Yi Seonggye, best known as King Taejo, in the late fourteenth century. King Taejo 's foundation for the new empire was based on the rejection of the Goryeo Dynasty, the state religion of Buddhism, and his desire for a Neo–Confucianist society. The new standards of Neo–Confucianism significantly affected the art and visual culture produced during this period of Korean history. During the Joseon period, paintings were considered a form of visual enlightenment for the Korean people. Painting, calligraphy, playing music, and playing the game paduk were regarded as the "Four Accomplishments that were expected of a learned man." The understanding and skill of painting is also said "to be necessary for cultural and intellectual refinement." As a result, the Korean government created academies for men of jungin status to become poets and painters. Many Korean artists were greatly inspired by the ink paintings of Chinese literati artists and masters. The three most interesting topics in Korean painting are landscape, genre, and portraiture due to their progressions in style over time, as well as the variation in techniques that artists used. Significant examples of Korean landscape painting include An Gyeon 's Dream Journey to Peach Blossom Land and Jeong Seon 's The Diamond Mountains. Genre painting as seen in Kim Hongdo 's Carpenters (from the album Genre Paintings by Danwon) and Shin Yun–bok 's Double Sword Dance (from his album of genre ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Art Vs Visual Art Visual art as we know it today is completely different from what had been created before the 20th century. Realistic depictions of the surrounding reality has given up its place in favor of attempts to convey the artist's inner world directly through the diversity of shapes, colors, and means of visual depiction. Hence, a reasonable question arises: how should one evaluate pieces of modern art given that traditional criteria of assessment do not apply easily in this case? Unlike traditional art, where one can make judgments about the scene, an artist's skills, and composition, modern art should be evaluated in a slightly different manner. Even though there are numerous artistic laws and rules, any assessment made about a piece of art remains subjective; I believe one can easily explain why someone likes a particular piece of art, but will not be able to persuade those who disagree with them or have no artistic taste. Considering this, let us refer to "Scream"–a famous painting by Edward Munch. Though it was painted more than 110 years ago, it still makes a perfect example of modern art. Personally, I usually evaluate paintings by their lucidity, strength of artistic means (such as composition, coloring, and so on), and the creator's ability to communicate with the audience through a canvas. Despite its expressionistic, distorted shapes and disturbing colors (which will be discussed later) "Scream" is still a realistic painting, performed in an expressionist manner. Its ...
