Romantic Literature Essay
Romantic Literature in Modern Day Movie?
Many people do not realize that Romantic Literature, even though it is a little over 200 years old, is
still relevant in Contemporary Literature today. In the 1990 film Joe Vs. the Volcano, Gothicism is
included throughout the movie. Edgar Allan Poe used Gothicism in many of his poems and short
shorties, such as The Raven and The Fall of the House of Usher. The characteristics of Gothicism
would be, dark, depressing, decay of mental or physical being, and death. All of these characteristics
tie into Joe Vs. the Volcano and Edgar Allan Poe's stories. In the beginning the words "Once upon a
time" (Joe Vs. the Volcano 1990) can be read on the placard, this is a clue that the film is a fairy tale.

"'Prophet!' said I, 'thing of evil!–prophet still, if bird or devil! By that Heaven that bends above us–
by that God we both adore– Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn, It shall
clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore– Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the
angels name Lenore.' Quoth the Raven "Nevermore.'"(Poe 301). Aidenn actually means paradise in
Arabic, however in this story they translate it to heaven. This translation does make sense because in
one of the seven heavens there is a Garden of Paradise. The beginnings of both stories are equally
dark, sad, gloomy, and without any intense colors. These characteristics of Gothicism all cause the
viewer, or reader, to be very fatalistic, and begin to think that the character's life will continue to be
horrible. They might also think the character would be incapable of having hope or any happiness in
their life. Joe Vs. the Volcano is very depressing in the beginning, this aspect of the movie ties into
Edgar Allan Poe's short stories such as The Fall of the House of Usher. "During the whole of a dull,
dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year, when the clouds hung oppressively low in the
heavens, I had been passing alone, on horseback, through a singularly dreary tract of country; and at
length found myself, as the shades of the evening drew on, within view of the melancholy House of
Usher." (Poe 312). This

San Diego Zoo Observation Paper
Visiting the San Diego Zoo I was able to observe and gain a deeper understanding of the Black
Mangabey,Western Lowland Gorillas, and Sumatran Orangutan. Through my visit I was able to
learn more about the different primates, their traits, habitats, eating habits, and interactions. Thus,
allowing myself to gain a visual and up close understanding of the primates we learned about in
class through the lectures.
The first primate I observed at the zoo was the Black Mangabey. The Black Mangabey is located in
the "damp forests in the central Congo Basin" in Africa(Zoo Placards– Black Mangabey 2015).
Furthermore, these monkeys move "through all levels of a forest canopy, seldom coming to the
ground"(Zoo Placards– Black Mangabey 2015). The Black Mangabeys are not only some of the
most rare monkeys but the most endangered species of monkey(San Diego Zoo Website 2015). The
Black crested Mangabeys' scientific name is the Lophocebus Aterrimus. The Black Mangabey is
identified by their black hair and the "long grayish brown whiskers that almost cover their ears and a
high crest on their head"(San Diego Zoo Website 2015).
The enclosure contained a lot of trees and rope for the Black Mangabeys to climb and swing around
in. There were no leaves on the trees, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

which interacted and watched the visitors while climbing all over its resting mother. After a while
the baby started feeding on it mother and once it was done it climbed on her back as she began to

The Super Bowl- Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is modern day slavery, which leads to kidnapping, drugs, forced sex, forced labor
or death. Consequently, many victims which include men as well as women and children from all
the countries are being kidnapped, bought and sold against their will, which are odious crimes in the
21st century. Therefore, Abolishing justice in the 21st century (A21) organization made a campaign
poster "The Super Bowl– Human Trafficking" contains calculated information that The Super Bowl
is known as the largest human trafficking incident in the United States. The notice contains an
extemporaneous photo of a woman who runs through a tunnel towards the light. A21 organization
strongly believes there are no unscathed people around the world, therefore human beings should
work together, and consequently the human trafficking will end. The art director of the poster is
unknown; the available information shows that this poster belongs to A21 organization. I retrieved
this placard from the internet, from Tina Kaufmann's article "Super Bowl is "single largest magnet
for sex trafficking, child prostitution in US", which she published in February 1st, 2013 on the
website of WCPO. The intended argument of the placard was to look around as well as to pay
attention to what is going on at the time of the Super Bowl, principally, parents need to look after
very carefully for their children in an addition to speak up if they notice something suspicious,
nevertheless save people from the

Epic Theatre: The Influences of Bertolt Brecht Essay
Response Essay "Theatre makes us think about power and the way our society works and it does
this with a clear purpose, to make a change." The ideas of Bertolt Brecht (1898–1965) changed the
theatre in many ways. Brecht along with Erwin Piscator developed the style of Epic theatre style
contrasting to previous accepted styles. Presentational in form, Epic theatre is a vehicle for social
comment through techniques such as: alienation, historification, eclectic influences (highly Asian),
constructivism in scenery, disjointed and illogical scene placement, ordinary clothing and lighting,
the use of music to detach the audience from emotion, placards and signs and projected images.
Didactic in nature Brecht's works aim to challenge the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Who weeps when she is given a cow and is surprised when she is not beaten." This quote shows
that the old woman was in possession of a stolen cow, Adzak shows compassion to the poor woman
as by result of circumstance believes it a miracle to be fed. The Caucasian Chalk Circle is a play that
highlights to its audience the injustices of society and aims to instruct change after viewing. The
Caucasian Chalk Circle was written during the time of Nazi Germany, The Second World War and
the age of communism in eastern bloc countries. Brecht was a firm advocate for Marxism, which is
often present in his tone. CCC is set after World War Town in a rural area; the first scene discusses
what will happen to the lands now that the war is finished. This can clearly be linked to comment on
the Soviet Union after WW2 and the effect the German's had had on Soviet progress. Brecht uses
the singer to demonstrate and narrate the comment on play happenings, as what can be seen to be a
parallel to Brecht commenting on his own context. Brecht's political views and the historical
happenings surrounding the creation of the CCC have influenced the way the audience interprets the
play as it is a grounding factor, the play is based on history and not fantasy. As a style of
presentational theatre, epic theatre is crafted to exact its purpose; to challenge and instruct the
audience to assess models of power and society

Obvious Implications
Obvious Implications In Lady Gregory's play, The Rising of the Moon, there are lines that hint that
the ballad man is actually the man that the police are looking for. For instance, as the sergeant is
standing at the dock and keeping watch for this criminal, he notices that a man is trying to sneak
behind him. The sergeant asks the sneaky man: "Where are you going" (2)? This statement implies
that someone is unnoticeably trying to pass him. Keep in mind that it is already assumed that the
criminal would be coming to the docks to meet with friends that night. It would be sensible of the
criminal, to try to sneak passed the sergeant without being noticeable because if caught he will be
arrested. Thus, the scene in the pay that says: "he appears ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After singing the song for a few moments, the sergeant realizes that the man has sang the wrong
lyrics to the song. The sergeant corrects the ballad asserting: "That's not it... Her gown she wore was
stained with gore.... That's it– you missed that" (7). In other words, a ballad singer would unlikely
miss his lines in a song considering this is his job to know these lines. The criminal quickly fixes the
lyric and then attempts to change the subject by bringing attention to the fact that the sergeant
knows the song and questions the sergeant to why he would know a song like that. It just goes to
show the audience once more that this is not a ballad singer but rather the criminal. As the sergeant
and the ballad man begin to speak about the sergeant's younger days, it seems that the ballad man is
trying to get sympathy from the sergeant. The man asks him about his friends when he was younger,
the ballad man enquires: "And isn't it a queer world? ... Maybe it's one of the boys you used to be
singing with that time you will be arresting to–day or to–morrow, and sending into the dock" (7).
This quote seems to be the ballad man's attempt to have the sergeant relate to the criminal by
making it seem that the criminal is just a another man that sings and is just like everyone

Essay On Ideal America
America. The greatest country. The strongest country. The one country most people want to live in.
The country that provides help for the ones in need and free education for everybody. America has
lived up to the ideals in the Declaration of Independence such as democracy, opportunity, but most
importantly, liberty. In America, we are all born with liberty or as others call it, "rights." To begin
with, America has lived up to these expectations by giving freedom to everybody. We're born with
liberty and rights. Although many take their rights for granted, America still provides rights for
those who don't take their rights for granted. The day United States declared independence was

"Some Americans believed the United States should acquire the new territories," which means,
settlers were destined to expand across the North America. This was called the Manifest Destiny. In
the United States of America, we vote who we want for president. The ones running for president
states there changes to the public and we have the right to vote for who we want to run our country.
Other countries do not get to vote for their president, king or queen or as many call it emperor or
monarch. Another ideal America has lived up to is Opportunity. In America, everyone has the same
opportunities as others. Obviously, not people who aren't born in the United States, but yet they're
not treated any different. Illegal immigrants have the same opportunities as citizen, the only
difference is you qualify for better and more things being a US Citizen. Although many feel like
America does not give the same opportunities to people because there skin color or their race, they
do. I know about black men and women who become much more than a person of no color.
Everybody has the same opportunity, regardless of skin color or race. Finally, America has lived up
to all these ideals because it's a great nation gathered. We celebrate Independence Day, Labor Day,
our former president's birthdays and many other events. America went through so much the past
years. We're all one nation

Salem Towne's House: Museum Analysis
For my first museum paper I went to OSV since it was my first and only choice of venue. I went to
the Towne's House since I was told I would be able to find what I was looking for. After struggling
to find a painting that I could read the information on, I saw the various the paintings along some
walls and ceilings.
It was difficult to read painting acquisition numbers, exact demensions, etc, since the rooms were
gated off, or there was no description of some pieces or for what was painted on the walls and
ceilings. I focused the portrait of Salem Towne in the dining room.
Since the room was gated off, I wasn't able to get a close look, but the placard on the gate talked
about the portrait briefly and that the mansion was built in 1796. I estimate the size of his portrait

To obtain a handicap placard in South Carolina, there are a number of steps you have to go through
before you receive one. A handicap placard allows the disabled owner of a vehicle special privileges
for parking. Instead of parking in the middle of a lot, businesses will have the first couple of parking
spaces reserved for a handicapped individual's vehicle. Placards are not just for anyone to receive.
There are rules and eligibility requirements in receiving a placard. Patients who have a chronic
illness that makes it difficult to walk may qualify for their own placard. If an individual is interested

Hairspray Film Techniques
The film 'Hairspray' directed by Adam Shankman, is set in June 1962 in Baltimore, America. During
this time, the Negroes were segregated from the white people. There was extensive discrimination.
Adam Shankman used effective film techniques that helped me to understand a key idea that is that
all people should be treated equally regardless of their race and colour. These techniques include the
use of prop, costume and dialogue.
The first effective film technique that helped me to understand the key idea was props. The props
used were placards and candles. During the protest for integration of Negro Day on the Corny
Collins' show, placards were used with messages written on them. Some of the messages were,
'Integration not Segregation', 'Black and White Unite' and 'Do the checkerboard'. These placards
were held by people supporting integration, stating that integration should happen between the
Negroes and the white people. Another prop used during the protest march were candles to represent
peace. The candles were used by the protesters to show that they wanted to say that even though ...

Shippers Research Paper
Liquid bulk chemicals and other hazardous materials have the potential to be dangerous to public
health and safety, as well as property during transportation. Due to inherent the risks involved, the
handling of hazardous materials is heavily regulated by all levels of government. Shippers, carriers,
and drivers are required to communicate to the public using four basic communication tools.
Package Markings and Labels Shippers are required to place diamond–shaped hazard warning labels
on the packages of most hazardous materials. The purpose of these labels is to inform others of the
hazards present. In some cases, the label is unable to fit on the package, however. In these instances,
shippers use a tag to securely attach the label to the package. The shipper then prepares a Shipper's
Certification, which is included in the shipping papers passed on to carriers, drivers and recipients.

they can be easily seen. These signs tell shippers, carriers, and drivers how to handle the materials

Abigail Adams's 'Remember The Ladies'
Equality served as a cornerstone of America's foundation, but its people have not fulfilled its
potential.
Americans have not lived up to the ideal set forth because people don't understand how it feels to be
someone other than themselves. For example in the 1920s Bessie Smith was not only a woman but
she was a black women and she was the most famous blues singer of her decade. (Placard H, the
twenties). In 1776 Abigail Adams wrote " Remember the ladies" and in this letter she said " I long to
hear that you have declared independency" She wrote this to her husband who was John Adams who
was a member of the continental congress.(This day in history, Abigail Adams, History.com) . She
wrote this letter because she believed that women werent being treated equaly and she was right. To
this day women and girls arent as equal as men or boys are. Reasons why? Because being called a
girl is an insult to men because they don't know how its actually feels to be a girl or a women.

Roman Slavery Analysis
Roman Slaves: A Brief Analysis
12th May, 2017 | Ancient History – Roman Society | C.J. Hawkings
"As many enemies as there are slaves." – Spartacus
Slavery was a common occurrence during the time of Ancient Rome. They resided at the lowest
component of the ladder of Roman society.
Men and women were enslaved from all ages. Moreover, so were their families, including their
children. Many slaves were prisoners and innocent bystanders from battles that the Romans fought.
There was more to the life of a slave than just serving the wealthy.
Aspects of Roman society have addressed by slavery. Though the topic has not been in detail.
This is a brief analysis of the average life of a slave during Roman times.
Who had Slaves?
Wealthy Roman families ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, they rebelled against their masters.
Statistics show that at least one–third of Rome's population were slaves.
Slave masters abused their slaves in any way they saw fit. Ways they did this included sexual and
indecent abuse and physical and mental abuse. This was one of the many reasons why slaves
rebelled.
There was a popular choice for slave rebellion was to run away. However, this did not always work.
Slaves often hatched their escape in advance so that there was more time to evade their masters.
The trader would disclose whether the run away had escaped before.
Sometime during the fourth century AD, masters had to use more humane method. This was in a
vain attempt to make the escape attempts by slaves decline. This was also the period where placard
collars came into play.
Archaeologists have found remains of slaves who died wearing these collars around their necks.
Once they were clean, many of these tags were taken to museums in North Africa and Europe and
put on display.
In conclusion, slaves had it rough. They endured so much in their lives and they deserved better then
what they had. With that said, we can thank them for helping build society to what it has

New York Sons Of Liberty: Chapter Analysis
Following the creation of the Sons Of Liberty in Boston, a New York chapter would soon appear.
With various conflicting dates, the New York Sons of Liberty was established in late October/ early
November. They had convened in either Burn's Coffee House or what they called "the fields" to
form a committee that would communicate with other colonies in regards to the Stamp Act. 1 Group
members included Issac Sears and four other members who would become the founding members of
this chapter. This chapter aimed to win over the citizens and appeal to the masses. They anticipated
to convert as much of the population into Sons of Liberty, relying on meetings to bring together
people from different backgrounds. The New York chapter had communication with various other
colonies, include the Boston chapter of the Sons of Liberty. Using Boston as an example, the New
York Sons of Liberty took the same course of action to voice their dissatisfaction and disapproval of
the Stamp Act. They would intimidate government and important officials who had any affiliation
with the Stamp Act, including the transportation and security of the papers. The biggest disorder that

for reactivity) was replaced by orange, standing for physical hazard. This was to differentiate HMIS
from the NFPA fire diamond which was designed for emergency responders whereas HMIS conveys
information about the effects of short or acute exposure.

7.4 EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
The Hazard Communication Program Manger determines the appropriate emergency procedures
based on the SDS, Hazardous Materials Business Plan (HMBP), Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and
other documents identifying steps to take in emergencies. This section describes general emergency
response procedures that are related to chemicals used in the workplace.
7.4.1 First Aid
Each SDS includes first aid information specific to the product and is to be reviewed to determine
response procedures. The supervisor shall inspect, or direct the inspection of all first aid kits, eye
wash stations and other first aid equipment on a regular basis or as required by the manufacturer to
ensure its readiness in an emergency. General first aid responses for overexposure to hazardous

Columbus : A Comparison Of The Statue Of Christopher Columbus
Located outside of city hall in Columbus, Ohio, stands a twenty foot statue of Christopher
Columbus. Forged in brass, Columbus poses with his left hand resting against his draped chest and a
scroll firmly gripped in his right. According to the Columbus Monuments Pages written by René &
Peter van der Krogt, the piece was given as a gift from the citizens of Genoa, Italy, the birthplace of
Christopher, to the city of Columbus (Krogt para 4). Italian sculptor, Edoardo Alfieri, was
commissioned to build the towering likeness, and on October 12th, 1955 the statue was dedicated
(Krogt para 4). A placard from the people of Genoa proudly states that they will forever cherish and
be guided by the statue's meaning. However, the meaning of the statue has changed over the past
sixty–two years, and while the creators of the monument meant for the statue to be an admired
memorial for Christopher Columbus, society now perceives Columbus negatively, and the statue has
become a point of controversy.
When analyzing the original purpose of the statue, it is clear to me that Genoa commissioned the
monument to commemorate the late Christopher Columbus. There are many pieces of the
monument that indicate its original purpose, including the placard that was dedicated with it. When
the people of Genoa gifted the statue to Columbus, Ohio, the placard stated that the gift was "to the
city which so proudly bears the name of Columbus." The word proudly is important when
deciphering the statue's meaning because it shows that the people of Columbus were not supposed
to just bear the name of Columbus, they were supposed to embrace his name and be proud to do so.
The placard shows that Genoa idolized the late explorer and was proud to give away a gift of his
memory. The statue's pose also attests to the original purpose of the monument because it depicts a
wise Columbus with honorable robes and a scroll firmly grasped in his hand. His robes and his
scroll evoke a sense of nobility and substance because they are characteristic accessories of men like
judges and priests, who we hold in high regard. Those details in this statue make it clear that this
piece was originally meant to memorialize the infamous Columbus, and to bless the city that

One Day Narrative Essay
After 13 years at a private, Christian school, walking onto campus each morning begins to feel like

The Industrial Revolution: A Positive Event In History
Today, society has cell phones, tablets, airplanes and computers– and the world is making wonderful
discoveries that can be shared as time goes on. The big boom of success started with the Industrial

One of the reasons the Industrial Revolution was a positive event was the mechanization in farming.

Parking Policies on Campus Essay
As a non–traditional student of the University Mary Hardin Baylor, I can say parking policies could
use some changes. I understand the need for parking policies for safety and security reasons, but
some parking rules are just ridiculous. My family has four vehicles, only one of them has a UMHB
parking sticker. This sticker was issued at registration; it is one of the many hidden fees that are
added into tuition. I sometimes drive different vehicles to campus. When I drive different vehicles, I
have to go to campus police to get a temporary parking permit. However, I do have the option to
purchase a sticker for each vehicle, if I want to pay fifteen dollars for each sticker. Another parking
issue is that vehicles cannot be pulled through or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If vehicles have been parked incorrectly, a citation will be issued. I have read several studies that
state, pulling through or backing into a parking space is safer, it is a good idea for several of
reasons. It is easier to pull out into traffic instead of backing out into traffic. There is also a better
view when leaving. When backing out blind spots could cause an accident, pulling out into traffic
the driver has full visibility. The drivers are aware of the other vehicles and pedestrians around
them. Then, when they go to leave, they have good, clear view to pull out. There is even a policy on
where students are allowed to park. If a student parks in the restricted areas, or is parked incorrectly,
they will be issued a citation.
Additional parking stickers mean additional fees for the student. College is already expensive, extra
fees are just a way for the college to get more money. Since all vehicles must have a parking permit
I have to go get a temporary parking permit every time I use other vehicles. This is time consuming
and having to go by the campus police to get a parking permit is inconvenient. I work a full time job
as well as going to college full time, so my time is limited. I drop my youngest son off at school on
my way to campus, so my mornings are already busy. As soon as class is over, I go straight to work.

Analysis Of The Word On The Streets By Craig Clunes
In the chapter "The Word on the Streets," Craig Clunas discusses calligraphy's power in a society
where both literate and illiterate people can understand. He explains that the "writing's color,
materiality, and form" matter more than what the actual content (84). Therefore, even illiterate
people can comprehend the importance of a piece of writing (84). In fact, calligraphy on placards
were used as a "form of social control," and this even worked on people who did not understand the
words (85). For example, there were some texts so powerful that just their presence was enough to
be "an instrument of punishment" (88). Clunas expands on his claim that the attributes of
calligraphy are sometimes more important than the content itself. Shen Du

Hazardous Materials Identification System: A Case Study
First responders encounter numerous associated risks when responding to a terrorist attack. First
responders face physical, health and environmental hazards; all of which effect life, health, and
safety (Federal Emergency Management Agency, 2002). Rarely, if ever, has a first responder dealt
with a terrorist attack due to their rarity (LaFree, 2017). In recent years, the United States has
experienced fewer than 25 terrorist attacks. Mass attacks such as September 11th, 2001 are even
rarer (LaFree, 2017). The hazards associated with such attacks range from conventional explosives/
low tech devices to chemical, biological or radiological (Federal Emergency Management Agency,
2002).

According to the Hazardous Materials Identification System, First responders needed a way to
quickly identify hazardous materials to minimize loss of life and environmental impact. Two
systems were created and are currently used; the National Fire Protection Association 704 System
(NFPA) and the DOT placard and label system. The NFPA is used on storage tanks and containers
and identifies substances on a 4 to 0 scale regarding health, flammability, reactivity and special
hazards depending on hazard presented by the material. The DOT system is used on containers and
tanks transported on roadways. Information concerning chemical properties and hazards in transport
is displayed by way of placards and labels. Resources such as the Department of Transportation's
Emergency Response Guide assists first responders and the public in identifying hazardous
materials by their markings, label, and placarding. The ERG even provides a "how to" when
handling these incidents (Unit 2: Hazardous Materials Identification Systems, 2017). While
responding to terrorist attacks, first responders must make their own safety priority number one, if

Don Juan In Hell: Painting Analysis
During my visit to the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, I examined two pieces of artwork. The first
piece is painted by Lyonel Feininger. The title of this piece is called ''Self Portrait.'' The medium of
this painting is oil on canvas. It is dated in 1915 and the size of this painting is 39 ½ x 31 ½ inches.
The location that this painting currently resides in the Audrey Jones Beck Building. The second
piece of art I viewed was painted by Alexandra A. Exter. It is titled, ''Stage Design for Don Juan in
Hell.'' It was created with Gouache over graphite on wove paper. It was created in the year 1929 and
its dimensions are 19 ¼ x 24 5/16. It resides in The Caroline Wiess Law Building. I will be

Lyonel Feininger's piece represents a self portrait of himself. Although his self portrait is not a
realistic portrayal of how he actually looks like, it is notable that his cubism style painting
represents a more creative twist to a simple concept of painting a portait of yourself. He empasizes
the use of expressionism to to distort and exaggerate his personal appearance. This presents a more
eye catching experience for the viewer examining his painting. In Alexandra A. Exter's piece it
represents a stage design for the performing arts. This is not any ordinary stage design, it is an array
of bright colors being utilized in cubism form to draw attention to the stage design. This ultimately
makes the stage different from any other ordinary stages. This is what seperates Exter from other
artists, her unorthodox stage design ideas are far from the ordinary. Both of these pieces have many
similarities and differences. Whether it be the expressionism and cubism styles present in both
paintings or even the differences in the type of medium these works of art were created on, these art
pieces are unique in their own way. They represent creativity, innovation and imagination. These
two pieces of art inspire the mind and help the viewer understand art from an unorthodox point of

L named "The Fifties", which shows a tremendous economic growth during the Nineteen–fifties. An
economic expansion is not only good for the government, but for all citizens, since the more money

One example of this was the fact that the hardware store did not present an active sprinkler system

significally, also resulting in a successful interior fire attack. Consider to the building owners that if
they do have hazardous materials located in the building, to either store them outside in a cage
where it is marked and labeled accordingly with placards or have placards attached to the building if
the materials are located inside the building. Having that in place will give the fire department a
good judgement on whether to go inside the structure or go defensive attack during a fire. This fire

Emergency Responders Essay
The potential for a terrorist attack on American soil presents various challenges for emergency
responders. There are many conceivable forms of terrorism that utilize chemical, biological,
radioactive, nuclear, or explosive agents as well as conventional weapons. Emergency responders
must be fully prepared to react appropriately to an attack to reduce casualties and destruction to
property and infrastructure. Training, education and policy all play a critical role in preparing
emergency responders for potential terrorist attacks. Well written policies define best practices in
policing techniques to guide officers in responding to a terrorist incident. Response to incidents
involving hazardous materials should be included to prepare officers to identify chemicals that are
stored in stationary containers and facilities through the use of the National Fire Protection
Association's (NFPA) 704 identification system as well as chemicals transported by road, rail, sea
and pipeline through the Department of Transportation's Identification System ( Federal Emergency
Management Agency, n.d.). Emergency responders must also learn and train to recognize the signs

California Milestones Essay
California Missions – Monuments or Tombstones?
Most Californians are introduced to the California Mission system in one of two ways: in their early
education, or when they first visit a mission. Unfortunately, both methods are prone to
simplification or bias in conveying the history of the missions. What this has led to is Californians
who are ignorant of the history of the land they walk on. Consequently, visitors to the missions treat
them as mere tourist attractions, instead of trying to embrace and understand the complex issues the
missions represent.
The issue was brought sharply into focus for me recently, when I was in the cemetery of Mission
Santa Barbara. It was a sunny afternoon and the tiny graveyard was crowded with ... Show more

Then you construct a model of a mission out of sugar cubes. For most people, this is all they will
learn about the missions unless they visit one.
While each mission is unique, most of what you learn in one is the same. My first visit to a mission
was as a child with my grandmother. We visited San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo and San Juan
Bautista. Both were presented as old churches that the Indians and Mexicans came to practice at and
lived in. I looked through the glass cases and saw the tools and pictures and copies of the Bible. The
placards described what the tools were used for and where the Bibles came from. The drawings
showed Father Serra or the lands as they looked then.
The recent tour I did of the missions showed that things had not changed much. In fact, by the 8th
mission, I was bored by seeing the same tools in the same glass cases, bored and frustrated, because
that was the knowledge most people were content to leave with.
Now I will tell you why we shouldn't settle for artifacts with explanations of their use as the whole
story. California had a population of at least 300,000 Native Americans who spoke at least 100
languages. These people lived on this land for centuries before the Spaniards showed up. Of course,
you would never know that if you only learn from a mission or an elementary school. We are only
told about the California Indians' use of tools or baking of adobe

Slavery Changes In Roman Life
Roman slavery was a very big part of the Roman lives. Slavery was an important feature of the
roman world. Prisoners of war and those who sold themselves to pay off debts usually became
slaves. Slaves in Ancient Rome had few rights and couldn't chose what they wore or where they
lived. Slaves were usually the people with less money. Many more wealthy people owned slaves.
Not all slaves were treated badly at this time, but many were.
Many people sold themselves into slavery to pay off depths. If people needed money to pay things
off, they would often sell themselves into slavery or get brought in. Some became slaves because
they could not pay back the money they had borrowed. The government would take people into
slavery if they could not pay their taxes. There were also many cases of poor people selling their
children as slaves to richer neighbors.

Examples Of Guerrilla Marketing
Guerrilla Marketing is an advertising strategy that focuses on low–cost unconventional marketing
tactics to yield results. The term guerrilla marketing was coined by Jay Conrad Levinson in 1984 in
his book 'Guerrilla Advertising'. The term was inspired by guerrilla warfare which became popular
during the Peninsular War, when the Spanish people rose against the Napoleonic troops and fought
against a highly superior army using the guerrilla strategy. The term "guerrilla" was used in English
as early as 1809, to describe the fighters (e.g., "The town was taken by the guerrillas"), and also (as
in Spanish) to denote a group or band of such fighters.
Guerrilla warfare tactics includes ambushes, sabotage, raids and elements of surprise. Much like
guerrilla warfare, guerrilla marketing uses the same sort of tactics in the marketing industry.
Guerrilla marketing originally was a concept aimed towards small businesses with a small budget,
but this didn't stop big businesses from adopting the same ideology.
One of the most famous examples of guerrilla marketing is The, Blair Witch Project. The Blair
Witch Project is a 1999 American psychological horror film that was produced by five graduates of
the University of Central Florida Film Program with a minimal budget and a camera. The two set up

Impact Of The Enlightenment Ideas On The American Revolution
If the Enlightenment thinkers never shared their inspiring government and political ideas, it is
expected that the United States would be extremely different then it is today. The Enlightenment
was a time when many new ideas on the freedom of people, how governments should be ran, and
how people should be involved in government decisions were introduced. The people who majorly
voiced these ideas were John Locke, Voltaire, Montesquieu, Rousseau, and Adam Smith. Primary
views that all these leading Enlightenment thinkers proposed, were the separation of powers, checks
and balances, the Social Contract, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, that government is
separate from economy, and natural rights. When Enlightenment ideas started to spread, many
groups of people were motivated into revolting against their governments, especially ones ruled by
absolute monarchies. The colonist in America were inspired by the Enlightenment ideas of Adam
Smith, Voltaire, and John Locke to revolt against the British monarch. After revolting, the colonist
used the Enlightenment ideas of Voltaire, John Locke, Rousseau, and Montesquieu to facilitate the
construction of the United States' government.
The American Revolution was strongly motivated by the various ideas of the Enlightenment
philosophers Adam Smith, Voltaire, and John Locke. The Revolution was a war started by the
colonists against Britain for citizens' freedom and independence in America and without this

Analysis Of The Poem ' The Harttung Family Epitaph '
At first glance, The Harttung Family Epitaph has a clear religious influence. The image of Christ,
the largest person in the center of the painting, alludes to the Christian Church. The group of
kneeling worshippers in the bottom of the painting, and the presence of men in the clouds above
also display the artist's religious influence. All of these images, along with the placard, help clarify
the artist's intent. The placard states that the painting is from 1540 and describes it as protestant
artwork. Therefore, through the images of a victorious Christ, a defeated Jonah, and the banner of
England, the artist attempts to reference the newly found Protestant Church. When I first saw the
painting, the first thing I noticed was the image of Christ standing triumphantly in the center of the
painting. This is because the artist uses techniques to draw a viewer's attention towards him. In each
corner of the painting, a head floating on a cloud looks towards the center of the painting, drawing a
viewer's eye towards Christ. The crowd underneath him looks up while kneeling in a sign of
worship, again, bringing the focus of a viewer towards Christ. The artist includes references so
viewers recognize Christ. On the man's right hand and right foot, blood flows from open wounds.
These wounds reference Christ's crucifixion. Despite these wounds, the artist presents a glorious
image of Christ. Christ stands over the body of a crowned monster and the bones of skeleton while

descended into a raw, windy and wet winter afternoon with a cold wind whipping around buildings,
slicing through my clothes and chilling me to the bone. It put me in a bad mood as I detest cold
weather. The approximately 6.5 mile drive from the Clarkston campus of Perimeter College a
division of Georgia State University was fairly straightforward and without too much traffic via
North Decatur Road. After driving onto the Emory University campus, I followed signage pointing
me towards the Michael C. Carlos museum and the Fishburne parking deck which was relatively
full, but I was able to slide into a spot that was being vacated, interestingly, by the exact same make
and model of my own car, a Volvo C70 convertible. The Fishburne parking deck is located a short

Romantic Literature Essay

  • 1. Romantic Literature Essay Romantic Literature in Modern Day Movie? Many people do not realize that Romantic Literature, even though it is a little over 200 years old, is still relevant in Contemporary Literature today. In the 1990 film Joe Vs. the Volcano, Gothicism is included throughout the movie. Edgar Allan Poe used Gothicism in many of his poems and short shorties, such as The Raven and The Fall of the House of Usher. The characteristics of Gothicism would be, dark, depressing, decay of mental or physical being, and death. All of these characteristics tie into Joe Vs. the Volcano and Edgar Allan Poe's stories. In the beginning the words "Once upon a time" (Joe Vs. the Volcano 1990) can be read on the placard, this is a clue that the film is a fairy tale. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "'Prophet!' said I, 'thing of evil!–prophet still, if bird or devil! By that Heaven that bends above us– by that God we both adore– Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn, It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore– Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore.' Quoth the Raven "Nevermore.'"(Poe 301). Aidenn actually means paradise in Arabic, however in this story they translate it to heaven. This translation does make sense because in one of the seven heavens there is a Garden of Paradise. The beginnings of both stories are equally dark, sad, gloomy, and without any intense colors. These characteristics of Gothicism all cause the viewer, or reader, to be very fatalistic, and begin to think that the character's life will continue to be horrible. They might also think the character would be incapable of having hope or any happiness in their life. Joe Vs. the Volcano is very depressing in the beginning, this aspect of the movie ties into Edgar Allan Poe's short stories such as The Fall of the House of Usher. "During the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year, when the clouds hung oppressively low in the heavens, I had been passing alone, on horseback, through a singularly dreary tract of country; and at length found myself, as the shades of the evening drew on, within view of the melancholy House of Usher." (Poe 312). This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. San Diego Zoo Observation Paper Visiting the San Diego Zoo I was able to observe and gain a deeper understanding of the Black Mangabey,Western Lowland Gorillas, and Sumatran Orangutan. Through my visit I was able to learn more about the different primates, their traits, habitats, eating habits, and interactions. Thus, allowing myself to gain a visual and up close understanding of the primates we learned about in class through the lectures. The first primate I observed at the zoo was the Black Mangabey. The Black Mangabey is located in the "damp forests in the central Congo Basin" in Africa(Zoo Placards– Black Mangabey 2015). Furthermore, these monkeys move "through all levels of a forest canopy, seldom coming to the ground"(Zoo Placards– Black Mangabey 2015). The Black Mangabeys are not only some of the most rare monkeys but the most endangered species of monkey(San Diego Zoo Website 2015). The Black crested Mangabeys' scientific name is the Lophocebus Aterrimus. The Black Mangabey is identified by their black hair and the "long grayish brown whiskers that almost cover their ears and a high crest on their head"(San Diego Zoo Website 2015). The enclosure contained a lot of trees and rope for the Black Mangabeys to climb and swing around in. There were no leaves on the trees, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also the enclosure had a lot of roaming room and resting areas for the great apes. Seven gorillas populated this exclosure and it was not an exhibit of mixed species. While I visited the Western Lowland Gorilla I mostly observed them resting. However there was a small baby in the exhibit which interacted and watched the visitors while climbing all over its resting mother. After a while the baby started feeding on it mother and once it was done it climbed on her back as she began to roam around the enclosure. It was very intriguing to watch the baby interact with its mother and witness it being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Super Bowl- Human Trafficking Human trafficking is modern day slavery, which leads to kidnapping, drugs, forced sex, forced labor or death. Consequently, many victims which include men as well as women and children from all the countries are being kidnapped, bought and sold against their will, which are odious crimes in the 21st century. Therefore, Abolishing justice in the 21st century (A21) organization made a campaign poster "The Super Bowl– Human Trafficking" contains calculated information that The Super Bowl is known as the largest human trafficking incident in the United States. The notice contains an extemporaneous photo of a woman who runs through a tunnel towards the light. A21 organization strongly believes there are no unscathed people around the world, therefore human beings should work together, and consequently the human trafficking will end. The art director of the poster is unknown; the available information shows that this poster belongs to A21 organization. I retrieved this placard from the internet, from Tina Kaufmann's article "Super Bowl is "single largest magnet for sex trafficking, child prostitution in US", which she published in February 1st, 2013 on the website of WCPO. The intended argument of the placard was to look around as well as to pay attention to what is going on at the time of the Super Bowl, principally, parents need to look after very carefully for their children in an addition to speak up if they notice something suspicious, nevertheless save people from the ... • 5. Epic Theatre: The Influences of Bertolt Brecht Essay Response Essay "Theatre makes us think about power and the way our society works and it does this with a clear purpose, to make a change." The ideas of Bertolt Brecht (1898–1965) changed the theatre in many ways. Brecht along with Erwin Piscator developed the style of Epic theatre style contrasting to previous accepted styles. Presentational in form, Epic theatre is a vehicle for social comment through techniques such as: alienation, historification, eclectic influences (highly Asian), constructivism in scenery, disjointed and illogical scene placement, ordinary clothing and lighting, the use of music to detach the audience from emotion, placards and signs and projected images. Didactic in nature Brecht's works aim to challenge the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Who weeps when she is given a cow and is surprised when she is not beaten." This quote shows that the old woman was in possession of a stolen cow, Adzak shows compassion to the poor woman as by result of circumstance believes it a miracle to be fed. The Caucasian Chalk Circle is a play that highlights to its audience the injustices of society and aims to instruct change after viewing. The Caucasian Chalk Circle was written during the time of Nazi Germany, The Second World War and the age of communism in eastern bloc countries. Brecht was a firm advocate for Marxism, which is often present in his tone. CCC is set after World War Town in a rural area; the first scene discusses what will happen to the lands now that the war is finished. This can clearly be linked to comment on the Soviet Union after WW2 and the effect the German's had had on Soviet progress. Brecht uses the singer to demonstrate and narrate the comment on play happenings, as what can be seen to be a parallel to Brecht commenting on his own context. Brecht's political views and the historical happenings surrounding the creation of the CCC have influenced the way the audience interprets the play as it is a grounding factor, the play is based on history and not fantasy. As a style of presentational theatre, epic theatre is crafted to exact its purpose; to challenge and instruct the audience to assess models of power and society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Obvious Implications Obvious Implications In Lady Gregory's play, The Rising of the Moon, there are lines that hint that the ballad man is actually the man that the police are looking for. For instance, as the sergeant is standing at the dock and keeping watch for this criminal, he notices that a man is trying to sneak behind him. The sergeant asks the sneaky man: "Where are you going" (2)? This statement implies that someone is unnoticeably trying to pass him. Keep in mind that it is already assumed that the criminal would be coming to the docks to meet with friends that night. It would be sensible of the criminal, to try to sneak passed the sergeant without being noticeable because if caught he will be arrested. Thus, the scene in the pay that says: "he appears ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After singing the song for a few moments, the sergeant realizes that the man has sang the wrong lyrics to the song. The sergeant corrects the ballad asserting: "That's not it... Her gown she wore was stained with gore.... That's it– you missed that" (7). In other words, a ballad singer would unlikely miss his lines in a song considering this is his job to know these lines. The criminal quickly fixes the lyric and then attempts to change the subject by bringing attention to the fact that the sergeant knows the song and questions the sergeant to why he would know a song like that. It just goes to show the audience once more that this is not a ballad singer but rather the criminal. As the sergeant and the ballad man begin to speak about the sergeant's younger days, it seems that the ballad man is trying to get sympathy from the sergeant. The man asks him about his friends when he was younger, the ballad man enquires: "And isn't it a queer world? ... Maybe it's one of the boys you used to be singing with that time you will be arresting to–day or to–morrow, and sending into the dock" (7). This quote seems to be the ballad man's attempt to have the sergeant relate to the criminal by making it seem that the criminal is just a another man that sings and is just like everyone ... • 7. Essay On Space Discrimination Lexi Baskin walked to her vehicle parked in a handicap space to find handmade signs covering her jeep, calling her a "selfish, terrible person." According to Liftable, the woman came face–to–face with papers blasting her for being parked in a space people with disabilities needed, not a person like her who could walk on her own. The words "Shame on you!" were staring back at her along with a sign with the handicap image on it saying "Not Really...Just Lazy." Just think about the time and energy this person put in to make those signs! How sad. Karen Moore knows firsthand how it feels to appear to be perfectly healthy on the outside, but actually needs to park in a handicap space for a reason that strangers can't see: I've got a placard because of my COPD .... lots of places I couldn't go without being able to park very close. • 8. Essay On Ideal America America. The greatest country. The strongest country. The one country most people want to live in. The country that provides help for the ones in need and free education for everybody. America has lived up to the ideals in the Declaration of Independence such as democracy, opportunity, but most importantly, liberty. In America, we are all born with liberty or as others call it, "rights." To begin with, America has lived up to these expectations by giving freedom to everybody. We're born with liberty and rights. Although many take their rights for granted, America still provides rights for those who don't take their rights for granted. "Some Americans believed the United States should acquire the new territories," which means, settlers were destined to expand across the North America. This was called the Manifest Destiny. In the United States of America, we vote who we want for president. The ones running for president states there changes to the public and we have the right to vote for who we want to run our country. Other countries do not get to vote for their president, king or queen or as many call it emperor or monarch. Another ideal America has lived up to is Opportunity. In America, everyone has the same opportunities as others. Obviously, not people who aren't born in the United States, but yet they're not treated any different. Illegal immigrants have the same opportunities as citizen, the only difference is you qualify for better and more things being a US Citizen. Although many feel like America does not give the same opportunities to people because there skin color or their race, they do. I know about black men and women who become much more than a person of no color. Everybody has the same opportunity, regardless of skin color or race. Finally, America has lived up to all these ideals because it's a great nation gathered. We celebrate Independence Day, Labor Day, our former president's birthdays and many other events. America went through so much the past years. We're all one nation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Salem Towne's House: Museum Analysis For my first museum paper I went to OSV since it was my first and only choice of venue. I went to the Towne's House since I was told I would be able to find what I was looking for. After struggling to find a painting that I could read the information on, I saw the various the paintings along some walls and ceilings. It was difficult to read painting acquisition numbers, exact demensions, etc, since the rooms were gated off, or there was no description of some pieces or for what was painted on the walls and ceilings. I focused the portrait of Salem Towne in the dining room. Since the room was gated off, I wasn't able to get a close look, but the placard on the gate talked about the portrait briefly and that the mansion was built in 1796. Adam Shankman used effective film techniques that helped me to understand a key idea that is that all people should be treated equally regardless of their race and colour. These techniques include the use of prop, costume and dialogue. The first effective film technique that helped me to understand the key idea was props. The props used were placards and candles. Due to inherent the risks involved, the handling of hazardous materials is heavily regulated by all levels of government. Shippers, carriers, and drivers are required to communicate to the public using four basic communication tools. Package Markings and Labels Shippers are required to place diamond–shaped hazard warning labels on the packages of most hazardous materials. The purpose of these labels is to inform others of the hazards present. In some cases, the label is unable to fit on the package, however. • 22. Columbus : A Comparison Of The Statue Of Christopher Columbus Located outside of city hall in Columbus, Ohio, stands a twenty foot statue of Christopher Columbus. Forged in brass, Columbus poses with his left hand resting against his draped chest and a scroll firmly gripped in his right. According to the Columbus Monuments Pages written by René & Peter van der Krogt, the piece was given as a gift from the citizens of Genoa, Italy, the birthplace of Christopher, to the city of Columbus (Krogt para 4). Italian sculptor, Edoardo Alfieri, was commissioned to build the towering likeness, and on October 12th, 1955 the statue was dedicated (Krogt para 4). A placard from the people of Genoa proudly states that they will forever cherish and be guided by the statue's meaning. However, the meaning of the statue has changed over the past sixty–two years, and while the creators of the monument meant for the statue to be an admired memorial for Christopher Columbus, society now perceives Columbus negatively, and the statue has become a point of controversy. When analyzing the original purpose of the statue, it is clear to me that Genoa commissioned the monument to commemorate the late Christopher Columbus. There are many pieces of the monument that indicate its original purpose, including the placard that was dedicated with it. When the people of Genoa gifted the statue to Columbus, Ohio, the placard stated that the gift was "to the city which so proudly bears the name of Columbus." The word proudly is important when deciphering the statue's meaning because it shows that the people of Columbus were not supposed to just bear the name of Columbus, they were supposed to embrace his name and be proud to do so. The placard shows that Genoa idolized the late explorer and was proud to give away a gift of his memory. The statue's pose also attests to the original purpose of the monument because it depicts a wise Columbus with honorable robes and a scroll firmly grasped in his hand. His robes and his scroll evoke a sense of nobility and substance because they are characteristic accessories of men like judges and priests, who we hold in high regard. Those details in this statue make it clear that this piece was originally meant to memorialize the infamous Columbus, and to bless the city that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. California Milestones Essay California Missions – Monuments or Tombstones? Most Californians are introduced to the California Mission system in one of two ways: in their early education, or when they first visit a mission. Unfortunately, both methods are prone to simplification or bias in conveying the history of the missions. What this has led to is Californians who are ignorant of the history of the land they walk on. Consequently, visitors to the missions treat them as mere tourist attractions, instead of trying to embrace and understand the complex issues the missions represent. The issue was brought sharply into focus for me recently, when I was in the cemetery of Mission Santa Barbara. It was a sunny afternoon and the tiny graveyard was crowded with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then you construct a model of a mission out of sugar cubes. For most people, this is all they will learn about the missions unless they visit one. While each mission is unique, most of what you learn in one is the same. My first visit to a mission was as a child with my grandmother. We visited San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo and San Juan Bautista. Both were presented as old churches that the Indians and Mexicans came to practice at and lived in. I looked through the glass cases and saw the tools and pictures and copies of the Bible. The placards described what the tools were used for and where the Bibles came from. The drawings showed Father Serra or the lands as they looked then. The recent tour I did of the missions showed that things had not changed much. In fact, by the 8th mission, I was bored by seeing the same tools in the same glass cases, bored and frustrated, because that was the knowledge most people were content to leave with. Now I will tell you why we shouldn't settle for artifacts with explanations of their use as the whole story. California had a population of at least 300,000 Native Americans who spoke at least 100 languages. These people lived on this land for centuries before the Spaniards showed up. Of course, you would never know that if you only learn from a mission or an elementary school. We are only told about the California Indians' use of tools or baking of adobe ... • 35. Examples Of Guerrilla Marketing Guerrilla Marketing is an advertising strategy that focuses on low–cost unconventional marketing tactics to yield results. The term guerrilla marketing was coined by Jay Conrad Levinson in 1984 in his book 'Guerrilla Advertising'. The term was inspired by guerrilla warfare which became popular during the Peninsular War, when the Spanish people rose against the Napoleonic troops and fought against a highly superior army using the guerrilla strategy. The term "guerrilla" was used in English as early as 1809, to describe the fighters (e.g., "The town was taken by the guerrillas"), and also (as in Spanish) to denote a group or band of such fighters. Guerrilla warfare tactics includes ambushes, sabotage, raids and elements of surprise. Much like guerrilla warfare, guerrilla marketing uses the same sort of tactics in the marketing industry. Guerrilla marketing originally was a concept aimed towards small businesses with a small budget, but this didn't stop big businesses from adopting the same ideology. One of the most famous examples of guerrilla marketing is The, Blair Witch Project. The Blair Witch Project is a 1999 American psychological horror film that was produced by five graduates of the University of Central Florida Film Program with a minimal budget and a camera. • 37. Impact Of The Enlightenment Ideas On The American Revolution If the Enlightenment thinkers never shared their inspiring government and political ideas, it is expected that the United States would be extremely different then it is today. The Enlightenment was a time when many new ideas on the freedom of people, how governments should be ran, and how people should be involved in government decisions were introduced. The people who majorly voiced these ideas were John Locke, Voltaire, Montesquieu, Rousseau, and Adam Smith. Primary views that all these leading Enlightenment thinkers proposed, were the separation of powers, checks and balances, the Social Contract, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, that government is separate from economy, and natural rights. When Enlightenment ideas started to spread, many groups of people were motivated into revolting against their governments, especially ones ruled by absolute monarchies. • 38. Analysis Of The Poem ' The Harttung Family Epitaph ' At first glance, The Harttung Family Epitaph has a clear religious influence. The image of Christ, the largest person in the center of the painting, alludes to the Christian Church. The group of kneeling worshippers in the bottom of the painting, and the presence of men in the clouds above also display the artist's religious influence. All of these images, along with the placard, help clarify the artist's intent. The placard states that the painting is from 1540 and describes it as protestant artwork. Therefore, through the images of a victorious Christ, a defeated Jonah, and the banner of England, the artist attempts to reference the newly found Protestant Church. When I first saw the painting, the first thing I noticed was the image of Christ standing triumphantly in the center of the painting. This is because the artist uses techniques to draw a viewer's attention towards him. In each corner of the painting, a head floating on a cloud looks towards the center of the painting, drawing a viewer's eye towards Christ. The crowd underneath him looks up while kneeling in a sign of worship, again, bringing the focus of a viewer towards Christ. The artist includes references so viewers recognize Christ. On the man's right hand and right foot, blood flows from open wounds. These wounds reference Christ's crucifixion. Despite these wounds, the artist presents a glorious image of Christ. Christ stands over the body of a crowned monster and the bones of skeleton while holding a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Personal Narrative: My Trip To The Michael C. Carlos Museum On Wednesday afternoon, February 25, 2016, I drove myself to the Michael C. Carlos Museum which is located on the campus of Emory University in Decatur, Georgia for my second encounter report for HUMN1303. A day that had started out as a warm, albeit grey, winter morning had rapidly descended into a raw, windy and wet winter afternoon with a cold wind whipping around buildings, slicing through my clothes and chilling me to the bone. It put me in a bad mood as I detest cold weather. The approximately 6.5 mile drive from the Clarkston campus of Perimeter College a division of Georgia State University was fairly straightforward and without too much traffic via North Decatur Road. After driving onto the Emory University campus, I followed signage pointing me towards the Michael C. Carlos museum and the Fishburne parking deck which was relatively full, but I was able to slide into a spot that was being vacated, interestingly, by the exact same make and model of my own car, a Volvo C70 convertible. The Fishburne parking deck is located a short walk away from the entrance to the Michael C. Carlos building.
