We do not know when David wrote Psalm 27.
Some Says
Part 1: 1 - 6 when life was good. God was answering all his prayers. Perhaps it was after he
had killed Goliath. (Psalm 27:2 below).
Part 2: 7-12 when life was difficult He thought that God was hiding from him.
Perhaps it was when Saul was fighting him. (Psalm 27:12 below).
He wrote verses 13-14 when he put the 2 parts together.
Other Christians believe that David wrote it all at the same time.
In the past God had been good to him. Why was God not good to him now? He would still
believe in God and wait for his help.
In Psalm 27 we learn that for David life had its ups and downs.
The ups were the good times.
The downs were the difficult times.
This happens to us also. When life is difficult we must remember the good times.
When we think that God has forgotten us, we must remember the times when he did not
forget us.
We must be like David in Psalm 27:14. We must wait for the Lord.
One day he will give us help. If we believe this, it will make us strong.
CONTEXT
Part 1. (Psalms 27:1-6) is altogether joyous and jubilant. It records, as
has been said, "the triumph of a warrior's faith."
Part 2. (Psalms 27:7-14) is sad and plaintive.
It pleads for mercy and forgiveness (Psalms 27:8-10).
It complains of desertion (Psalms 27:10)
calumny (Psalms 27:12),
imminent danger (Psalms 27:11, Psalms 27:12)
It still, indeed, maintains hope, but the hope has only just been saved
from sinking into despair by an effort of faith (Psalms 27:13),
a determination to "wait" and see what the end will be (Psalms 27:14).
David is the author of this Psalm…
David went from being a little shepherd boy to
being the King of Israel…
Fear is a real thing (Even for a tough guy like David

Fear is a real thing (Even for a tough guy like David
who killed bears that tried to take sheep from his
flock)
We live in an inconsistent world
We’re inconsistent people- and it seems like we’re
always dealing with something in life…
Certain circumstances, sins, or struggles…
We’re always dealing with how we view ourselves and how
we view God… Or we’re walking in the midst of letdowns
trying to find hope, or we’re dealing with certain fears about
the future…
At any given moment, each one of us is dealing with
something in our lives, and so the question is, in the
midst of everything that we’re experiencing how do
So, let us ask us this,
what are your biggest fears?
What is it that you’re most afraid of- what Keeps you up at night?
● Your future?
● You kids future?
● Your health?
● Your finical future?
● Being single the rest of your life?
● Not becoming what you always dreamed or making it in your
profession?
● Not finding the right job?
● Letting someone down?
● Your marriage falling apart?
● Making the wrong decision with something big in your life?
We all have fears, what is it for you?
Maybe you have people who are coming after you…
maybe it’s a boss or a co-worker, or a family member…
And your constantly feeling attacked and belittled where
you always leave feeling defeated…
Here is the thing about things that you fear and things that
you dread…
They weigh on you,
they can make you anxious,
they can keep you up
at night or make you restless,
they can consume your thoughts,
They can even dictate your mood…
Where can you turn- what can you claim,
where can you find hope and confidence?
Where do you find calm in the ciaos?
Where can you find rest in the business of
life?

1. Psalm 16:8-
"I am always aware of the Lord's presence; he is near, and nothing can shake me."
2. Psalm 23:1–6-
"God, You are my shepherd, I lack nothing. You make me lie down in green pastures, You lead me beside still waters, You restore
my soul. You lead me in paths of righteousness for Your name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of
death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me! Your rod and your staff, they comfort me! You prepare a table before me in the
presence of my enemies, You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days
of my life and I will dwell in Your house forever. Amen."
3. Psalm 25: 1–3-
"In you, Lord my God, I put my trust. I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. No one
who hopes in you will ever be put to shame but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause."
4. Psalm 27:1–3-
"God, You are my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? You are the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? When the
wicked come against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies, and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against
me, my heart shall not fear!"
5. Psalm 27:8-
"The Lord protects and defends me; I trust in him. He gives me help and makes me glad; I praise him with joyful songs."
6. Psalm 91:2-
"You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."
7. Psalm 121:1–2-

You make me lie down in green pastures, You lead me beside still waters, You restore my soul. You lead me in paths of righteousness for Your name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me! Your rod and your staff, they comfort me! You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in Your house forever. Amen." 3. Psalm 25: 1–3- "In you, Lord my God, I put my trust. I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause." 4. Psalm 27:1–3- "God, You are my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? You are the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked come against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies, and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear!" 5. Psalm 27:8- "The Lord protects and defends me; I trust in him. He gives me help and makes me glad; I praise him with joyful songs." 6. Psalm 91:2- "You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." 7. Psalm 121:1–2- "I look to the mountains; where will my help come from? My help will come from the Lord, who made heaven and earth."
