4. • The belief….
• Every kid is talent
• Some play sports well naturally
• Some study well with minimum supervision
• Some paint well
• Some play instrument well
• Some have more than one talent
• A kid’s talent(s) can be observed and
identified when are young, sometimes as
young as several months
5. •Will an ‘A’ grader always success?
•Being an ‘A’ grade student does not mean that
one will end up living happier than those
who are not
•To prepare our kids for their happy lives, we
develop their talent fully so that they can
work and generate income more happily
6. •We still have teachers, but they do not
function as before
•Teachers are not powerful, so to speak,
nowadays
•A large portion of teachers’ pays (up to about
25%) depend on bonuses
•Bonus amount is determined by classroom
assessment, test scores, and CCAs
performance
•The point is teachers do not usually put in
effort to develop a talented kid when spotted
7. •By KH Glass Theory (2013), a talent is
analogous to a glass
•Some kids have very huge ones (very
talented) while some have smaller ones
•A huge glass contains nothing if it is not filled
•Finding the glass (spotting the talent) is
important
•Filling the glass (developing the talent) is
challenging
8. •A kid’s talent can be viewed as a glass
•Depending on how talented a kid is, the
volume of the glass is determined
•How well the kid can perform depends on
how much the glass is filled
•In KH Glass Theory, a 100 cc glass is assumed
to be good enough to perform and compete at
international level
9. •A 100 cc glass is filled half while an 80 cc
glass is completely filled, which of the 2 kids
will perform better?
100 cc
50 cc
A 100 cc glass kid,
when filled up, say
up to 70%, may
still perform well
at school level.
However, if
developed fully,
the kid can
represent a
country.
A 50 cc glass kid, if
filled completely,
can compete with
a 100 cc glass kid
who is 50% filled
10. •It is a pity if a huge glass is not filled up
•A 100 cc glass kid, when groomed to 50 cc
will not perform as well as a 80 cc glass kid
who is fully groomed
•Comment such as “my boy looks intelligent
and can learn much faster than his
classmates, but his test score is always lower
than theirs” reflects this realistic situation
11. •We do not know the volume of
the glass, we just have to keep
filling it up
•The Talent Glass will appear
bottomless initially
•How do we know if a kid is a 100
cc or 50 cc glass?
•Is it important to know?
•Of course, we want to develop
our kids’ talent accordingly,
especially, when they still need to
go to school
100 cc
or
50 cc
???
12. • Filling up the Talent Glass
• The Howard Gardner’s multiple intelligent model
• MOE’s application of the Gardner’s model in the pre-
school education curriculum
• On losing and winning and instilling the positive
attitude into our kids
• How did we manage Kaiyi’s training in tennis and his
studies?
• The DSA, be realistic, you want it
• Children comparison, have you done it right?
• How positive thinking and talent development bring
Kaiyi to toughest unit, the NDU and how he survived
the course?
