Taipei 101

For six years, The Taipei 101 or the Taipei World
Financial Centre was the tallest skyscraper. However in
2010 it became the third tallest skyscraper behind the
Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel in Mecca, Saudi Arabia
and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
This building is a wonderful structure but, what made
this massive skyscraper? And it's odd, structural
design?

Facts:
The Taipei 101 costed 2,210,922. (NZD)
From ground to the highest point is 509 metres.
Construction started in 1999 and completed in 2004.
It has 106 floors.
It has 61 elevators.

Why was the Taipei 101, built? Though it is Taipei's
World Financial Centre. The Taipei 101 is also used as a
communication tower, fitness centre, library, restaurant,
a retail as well as conference and office building. It also
has an observation deck.

Who built the Taipei 101? The owner of the skyscraper
is the Taipei 101 are the Taipei Financial Centre
Corporation. The main contractor and on site boss was
C.Y Lee. The structural engineer (the people who built
it ) Thornton Tomasetti.

Where is Taipei 101? Well obviously the Taipei 101 is in
Taipei the capital city of Taiwan. Which is also the
capital city of the People's Republic of China, with a
population of 2.6 million people.

What is so special about the Taipei 101? The Taipei 101
has a very unique build to it, it's a bit like Chinese food,
boxes stacked on top of each other. The other thing, is
the New Years fireworks at the end of
the year. It is an amazing spectacle to
watch.

How is it used? The Taipei 101 is
mainly used as a office. A gym, library
and a retail store. This massive
building has many traits. I love it's
uniqueness.

It's a very unique and empowering
building. I mean empowering by its
shear size, how tall it is and it's ability to be multi
purposeful. I mean it's a shopping centre, gym and
library. Not many buildings of this size have that. I
chose this building because of its odd structure and
the fact nobody else would think of doing it. Its
significant and special because its the third tallest
building in the world. Which is a pretty big achievement
if you think about it. That unlike many other
skyscrapers not one person has tried to commit suicide
off this building, which I think is great. I think that the
view from the height of the building would be
magnificent, to watch over all of Taipei. Overall, I think
that the Taipei 101 is an amazing building. And the
fireworks and the end of the year would be awesome.
