The Apostle Paul prayed for peace in regards to the Philippians whom he loved. He also shows that true peace is not just the absence of alarm but a relationship with God. www.cmcoc.org

2. Peace defined
• Eirene in greek Strongs #1515
• Harmony, tranquility, safety, welfare,
health. Often with an emphasis on lack of
strife or reconciliation in a relation, as
when one has “peace with God”.
• Closely related with the Hebrew word
shalom.
3. Peace in view of Circumstances
Paul’s Circumstances
• Philippians 1:12 Now I would have you
know, brethren, that the things which
happened unto me have fallen out rather
unto the progress of the gospel;
• Philippians 1:13 so that my bonds became
manifest in Christ throughout the whole
praetorian guard, and to all the rest;
4. Philippians circumstance vs.27
• Finally, discharge your obligations as
citizens in a manner worthy of Christ’s
gospel, so that, whether I come and see
you, or am away, I may hear how things
are with you: that you are standing firm in
one spirit, with one heart, striving side by
side for the faith of the gospel
5. Philippians circumstance vs. 28-30
• And that you are not being frightened in
anything by your opponents. Their opposition
points to their utter ruin, but to you of God’s
salvation.
• It has been granted to you, for Christ’s sake,
not only to trust in Him, but also to suffer for
his sake.
• You are having the same anguish which you
saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
6. Peace defined
• The harmonized relationships between God
and man accomplished through the gospel.
• To the Christian it means more than simply
absence of alarm.
7. The Christian can have Peace
• When unemployed
• When underemployed
• When bereaved
• When grieved
• When tortured
• When in perils
• When hungry
• When poor
• When health fails
• When single
• When divorced
• When lied upon
• When lied to
• When persecuted
• When forsaken
• When ill treated
• When prayers aren't
answered like…..
8. Peace
• Peace to the Christian is not the absence of
trouble but the presence of God!
• The result of knowing Jesus and that all the
things in this life are temporal but the
relationship with God is eternal!
• It conveys the concept of total well-being in
relation to God and man.
9. Prayer
• Fellowship is the share one has in anything;
participation, association or communion. The
Greek word “koinonia” is translated as:
• 1) “Communication” - Phile 6.
• 2) “Communion” - 1 Cor 10:16.
• 3) “Contribution” - Rom 15:26.
• 4) “Distribution” - 2 Cor 9:13.
• 5) “Fellowship” - Phil 1:5.
10. Philippians and Paul Fellowship vs.5
• They have a true relationship a sense of
community, closeness and cooperation.
• Maybe he is recalling Lydia? Or 4:15-16
• Acts 16:15 And when she was baptized, and
her household, she besought us, saying, If
you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord,
come into my house, and abide there. And
she prevailed upon us.
11. Philippians and Paul Fellowship
vs.5
• Philippians 1:5 For your fellowship in the
gospel from the first day until now;
• Spans a period of about a decade to 12
years!
12. Philippians and Paul Fellowship vs.7
• Both defended the gospel message
• The meaning is, that as they had participated
with him in the defence of the gospel; as in all
his troubles and persecutions they had made
common cause with him, so it followed that
they would partake of the same tokens of the
Divine favour, he expected that the Divine
blessing would follow his efforts in the cause of
the gospel, and he says that they would share
in his blessing.
