2. INTRODUCTION
Salivary cyst- Accumulation of
saliva in the gland or duct (lined
by glandular tissue that secretes
the saliva)
Sialoliths- deposition of mineral
salts around a nidus of bacteria,
mucus or desquamated cells
3.
4. SIGNALMENT:
Species: Canine
Breed: Mongrel
Sex: Female (Intact)
Age: 7 months
Weight: 12 kg
ANAMNESIS:
Swelling on the left lateral
aspect of the mandibular angle
for 4 months
Observed within a few days of
being bitten by a dog at the site
5.
6. CLINICAL
EXAMINATION
GA: NAD
BH: Active
FH: NAD
VH: NAD
RT: 102.2 ºF
PLN: Palpable
Palpation: Soft
: Evinces pain
Fine needle aspiration
19. The edges of the capsule of the gland and the subcutis were sutured
with Polyglactin 910- 0 in the inversion and simple continuous pattern
respectively
Staples:
Length: 6.4 mm
Width: 4 mm
Diameter: 0.57 mm

21. POST OPERATIVE CARE
DRUG ROUTE DOSE RATE
Cefpodoxime I/V
10 mg/kg for
7 days
Serratiopeptidase PO
10 mg/kg for
3 days
NUTRICH PO
1 tab OD for
5 days
23. CONCLUSIONS
Fine needle aspiration only temporarily reduced the size of
the swelling. Recurrence was observed.
No recurrence was observed after surgical excision of the
gland and removal of the sialoliths
Usage of staples proved to be satisfactory
Uneventful recovery
Sialocele: Leakage of saliva from a damaged gland or duct and its consequent accumulation in nearby tissues (Cervical, zygomatic, pharyngeal, sublingual). Inflammation due to the saliva subsequently sets in and the mucocele ends up becoming lined by inflammatory (granulation) tissue.
Sialolithiasis: Due to sialoliths in the gland or duct
Sialoliths: Varying ratios of organic and inorganic substances
Aspiration: Thick, viscous, bloody saliva
