1. Wheaton League of Women Voters Response to the Winfield Post
The Wheaton League of Women Voters is co-sponsoring a candidate forum with the
Winfield Junior Woman’s Club. We are also sponsoring a forum in Carol Stream and co-
sponsoring forums in West Chicago and in Wheaton. The forums directly support our
mission to encourage the informed and active participation of citizens in government.
We also work to increase understanding of major political policy issues, and to influence
public policy through education and advocacy.
Invitations to a Winfield forum were sent to two candidates for Village President and to
six candidates for Village Trustee. Some candidates declined the invitation to
participate. This is unfortunate because it deprives the voters of seeing and hearing
unfiltered responses from all of the candidates that seek to represent them in the village
government.
The forum will take place with those candidates who accepted, on March 11, 2013 at
Central DuPage Hospital. Three Village Trustee candidates will make opening and
closing statements, and answer questions from the audience. A candidate for Village
President will make an opening statement, but will not answer questions.
This nonpartisan event will inform the citizens of Winfield before the April 9, 2013
election. The citizens of Winfield deserve this event, a fair and impartial forum, where
they can see and hear from those running for offices in their village government. We are
pleased to co-sponsor it.
