Moodle Gradebook
What the gradebook won’t
do…
 Mark work for you
 Make your students more organised
 Make you more organised
 Replace your paper markbook
 Make your students cleverer
 Guarantee better exam results
What the gradebook can do
 Allow students to quickly and easily
review their progress and see the areas
  they need to concentrate on
 Allow you to organise your grades
 Allow you to see trends and patterns
 Allow you to quickly look back over
grades and comments given to a
  particular student
Strategy
 In order to make the most of any tool
you need a clear idea of why you’re using
  it.
 The gradebook needs to fit in to your
  department’s assessment policy
 Assessment for learning
 Differentiation
 Department gradebook
Categories
 What should your categories be?
 Some examples
    ◦ Time based – Term 1, Term 2
    ◦ Topic based – Weather, Volcanoes
    ◦ Tutor based – ELA, PPA, BVE
    ◦ Type based – Coursework, homework, tests
    ◦ “Essentialness” based – Core, voluntary
 You can have nested categories, but it
    can get confusing!
