2. THE EXPERIMENT
Purpose: To see what colleges fit my needs and wants based on
a survey of 21 questions on a weighted point system of 320 points,
with the most ideal answers having the most points and the worst
answers with the least points.
Theory: A school located in an urban area with either a fashion or
cosmetology degree for fewer than 20,000 dollars a year with a
couple thousand students with either dorms on campus or affordable
apartments near by to live in, with several social activities to meet
people each month would be a good school choice for me.
Hypothesis: I think the FIDM of LA would be a good choice for
me because it’s located in the heart of LA, has a degree available in
fashion design, has 4 thousand students, costs $20,000 a year, offer
apartments to single students, and have activities each week for
students to participate in.
3. List of Schools
Ideal:
Art Institute of Seattle
Art Institute of New York
Miami International Institute of Art and Design
FIDM LA
Likely:
FIDM Orange County
Paul Mitchell in Spokane, WA
Gene Juarez Academy
Green River Community College
Fall Back Plan
BYU Provo
BYU-I
BYU- Hawaii
4. EXPERIMENTAL METHOD
The researcher takes colleges they would look into and put them against questions
based off of their needs and wants for the school.
My questions are based of a 320 point system. The more important questions like how
much tuition costs are weighed more heavily than a question asking if the dorm rooms
have quiet hours.
250-320 points would be an ideal school, 201- 249 would be a likely college I’d get into,
and below 200 would be not an ideal school.

17. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS
As it turns out, FIDM LA was the best school for me but I was also to
surprised to see that one of my more likely schools, FIDM OC, to get
into schools was above the ideal line. Many of my schools scored at
the likely area, and the schools I expected to fall below did in fact fall
there.
Mean: 217
Median: 220: The mean and median were most of my schools were
my mostly likely to get into. It shows most of my schools had about
an equal amount of points.
Standard Deviation: 36.9: The scores didn’t vary very much because
all the questions were fairly balanced out, only on a few questions
would I say the results might have been skewed.
18. SUMMARY
I think the overall quality of the experiment is good
quality. For most of my questions it was difficult to
find the answers because they weren’t reported or
hidden within the website I was searching. I think I
could have been more accurate in the findings and
looked at more websites to compare answers to my
questions.
I proved my hypothesis correct since I already had
a few questions geared directly to that college.
19. IMPROVEMENTS
I could add more questions dealing to the course
work or more specifically to life on campus since I
only has one or two questions that were directed
towards that.
I feel like I should haven’t been so biased towards
one school while creating the survey.
