Panel Discussion
How to benefit from Lean CQI
15. Leverage existing investments;
& reuse existing data
Bridge the gap with
evidence-based tools;
& easy to use Apps
Immediate results
for all stakeholders.
Then, amplify over time
25. Step 2: Identify Minimum
Viable Quality Goal
Key Iterations…
1. Equity at Policy Level
2. SEL in Classrooms
3. School Readiness
Benchmark
4. Advocacy driven CQI
Step 3: Design a
Time-Bound & Small-Scale
QI Project
26. Step 4: Plug Assessment
and Data Gaps
• Head Start Programs
Already Have Wealth
of Data
• In Louisiana, we
Needed a Dependable
School Readiness
Screener

Editor's Notes
The script goes as follows….
Build Name Shows Up Tip of the hat to folks at BUILD whose work we are extending in our approach
Best summarized in some of their presentations in recent years
Gears Show Up As we all know we deal with complex systems
Red circle behind Equity shows up That seem even more daunting when we account for “bridging the equity gap”
BEFORE THE NEXT SLIDE
What we will talking about today are
A Tactical Framework for Implementing this Vision
and we call it “Lean CQI”
And, how it has worked out in Louisiana and California
**ANIMATION SEQUENCE**
Sustained funding…..
Image shows we all have to do what we need to ensure that the stakeholders from Funders to the Beneficiaries
Smiley shows and we all do it with a smile
Continuous Quality Improvement
Image shows the goal is to align those efforts so that we can also attain CQI
Smiley shows and we will all gladly expect that with a smile
Evaluation
Image shows when you dig deep…. Paths to answering all these questions requires some type of evaluation and data analysis
Smiley shows Evaluation and data makes some of us very happy!
Question Mark Smiley Shows Most of us, however, soon enough start wondering…..
Why are we doing this again?
How is this data helping me with informed decisions?
Where is “improvement” in “evaluation”?
Will I get the results of quality in a timely manner?
Even if the results are timely…. How do I leverage them in day-to-day practice for improving quality?
BEFORE NEXT SLIDE (Traditional Evaluation)…..
The answer is…..
Evaluation and data are necessary tools that we can not shy away from
But we need to update our practices on how we use these tools
Our solution to this problem is an approach we call “Lean CQI”
Before we do that, however, let us step back and see the challenges with TRADITIONAL EVALUATION…..
Step 1 - Inventory
Catalogue Inventory of existing investments
Catalog existing data investments, process investments, and thought investments (strategy plan evaluation, logic model etc)
Step 2 - MVQ
Based on the inventory, find the lowest hanging fruit by taking the combination and identifying Minimum Viable Quality goals (MVQ) — look through more quickly and efficiently to find MVQ goals
**DEVELOP A HYPOTHESIS**
Step 3 - Design Simple QI Project
Leveraging these investments taking them all and creating a quick time-bound and small scale quality improvement project
Step 4 - Plug Data Gaps
Leverage data collection techniques (our apps etc or custom apps) to collect data and identify gaps
Hit Play!
It is not that easy but it works…
Before we see example….
Let us anchor it back…
