Students scores have been between the 60th and
70th percentiles in both math and reading. For the
most part lower than the counties average scores.

Editor's Notes

  1. Dear Parents I would first like to thank you all for coming out tonight and taking the time out of your busy schedules to invest in your students future. On tonight's agenda I have prepared a presentation displaying the math and reading scores of our students for FCAT over the past five years.
  2. Take a look at our first chart comparing the reading and math scores in 2009 to 2013. While our school has always maintained an average achievement level over 50% we are still a long way from seeing 100 % success for all of our students.
  3. As you can see from this graph we had a peek in student performance in 2011 and a swift decline in 2013. We as administration and parents need to step up and become more involved in student reading academic life. An intervention program will be started in the form of small groups with extra reading times during the school day. Students with critically low scores will required to take extra reading classes instead of specials. Mrs. Angie Webb will be heading up this intervention program for our school starting next year.
  4. Student scores in the mathematics subject area started out strong in2009 but made a fast drop in 2011. As you can tell our afterschool intervention program formulated for 2012 and 2013 made a significant difference in our scores. We project in 2014 to onceagain rise to the 60th or 70th percentile because we will also be instituting an in school intervention math program as well. Extra staff has been brought on to lower teacher to student ratios in remedial math classes.
  5. While our school fell below the county as a whole, our students maintained the same progress pattern from 2009 to 2012 as the Marion county demographic. In 2013 when the scores fell down a declining path the county diverted extra funding to help Smith middle school put corrective programs in place. The school is looking forward to the 2014 progress.
  6. Our math scores are different story. The students progress has been on a upward climb Since 2011. Our students actually match the Marion County scores for 2012. With continuing support from parents like you we hope to see students growth in the coming years.

Just under the mark for the county as a whole. Smith Middle School as worked hard to put Intervention programs in place to aid students performances.
