The Marina Barrage was constructed across the mouth of the Marina Channel in Singapore between 2005 and 2008. It creates Singapore's 15th reservoir and the first located in the heart of the city. The barrage prevents seawater intrusion, increasing Singapore's water catchment area while also providing flood protection and creating a new recreational space. It was envisioned by former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew in the 1980s but took over 20 years to realize due to technical limitations.
