For my main task, I needed to decide on a genre for my
magazine pages. I needed to know which genre would be the
best for me. I took 3 genres of music into consideration:
Rock
Hip Hop
Classical
In this PowerPoint I will discuss these three genres in more
detail.

I have considered Rock as one of the genres for my music
magazine pages. Occasionally, I do listen to Rock music, I
think this will play a role in my final decision.
The target audience for Rock music would be for around 2050 year olds. Statistics show that the majority of rock
magazine buyers are male;16% of readers who buy Rock
magazines are female, and the other 84% are male.
If I was to decide on a rock magazine, I would definitely aim
my pages for male readers.

A common feature of a Rock
magazine cover is that the
masthead is normally covered by
the main image.
As you can see in both magazine
covers, both these features apply.

Both artists from the Rock magazine covers on the slide before as
represented very similarly. The artists are playing instruments, they have
outrageous hairstyles and clothing. They are both presented as to be
showing a lot of passion. We can infer this from the Kerrang magazine that
the artist looks tired, signifying that he has just played a concert and is very
tired.
The magazine pages are dark and fit the common stereotypes of male
hardcore rock fans. We wouldn’t so much associate stereotypical females
with these sort of magazines.

Another music genre that I have considered to use for my
music magazine is Hip Hop.
Most Hip Hop magazine covers almost have the same
features, however they may be set out differently. For
example, most Hip Hop magazine covers have the barcode
at the bottom left of the front page. They also have sell lines
above the barcode to interest the audience in case they are
not interest in the main image/main story.
The cover stars usually fit the common stereotypes of
rappers: being black, normally younger, American. They
would always be presented with wearing jewellery also.
In this page in particular, what would also be in the
magazine is being show but it isn’t visible and behind the
main image. Usually, the readers would be able to easily see
what else is going on in the magazine- but not this one.

Finally, the last music genre I have
considered to use for my music magazine is
classical.
Classical music isn’t normally associated
with younger people, so if I was to pursue
with classical music for my chosen pages, I
would aim them at older people who
normally come from affluent backgrounds

The main cover star is presented
as a middle class citizen. He is
presented as happy also. The cover
instantly fits the common
stereotypes about elderly people
who are only interested in classical
music.
The colour scheme is key. The
white represents peace and
purity, whereas the gold shows
affluent backgrounds to the cover
star.
