At the Cross, we see Jesus on this Christ the King Sunday on his throne, the most unassuming but powerful throne, where He forgives all those whom were sinners and whom wanted Him dead. If Jesus forgives His enemies, what reason do we have for not aiming for such grace as well? This reminds us all that the world always has HOPE in Jesus!
2. Last week… Do we wish that the
wrath of God would
just fall on some
people?
Jesus doesn’t…
Luke 19: 1-10 –
Zacchaeus the Tax
3. What happened before this?
21 But they kept
shouting, “Crucify him!
Crucify him!”
…Therefore I will have
him punished and then
release him.”
23 But with loud shouts
they insistently
demanded that he be
crucified, and their
shouts prevailed.
24 So Pilate decided to
grant their demand. ….
The people judged Jesus…. There were as much involved as the Romans…
4.
5. 23:33 When they came to the place
that is called The Skull, they
crucified Jesus there with the
criminals, one on his right and one
on his left.
23:34 Then Jesus said, "Father,
forgive them; for they do not know
what they are doing." And they cast
lots to divide his clothing.
23:35 And the people stood by,
watching; but the leaders scoffed at
him, saying, "He saved others; let
him save himself if he is the
Messiah of God, his chosen one!"
6. What is the message for TODAY?
At a place where no mercy is shown:
The Romans did not show mercy
The Jews did not show mercy
Jesus shows mercy
What does this mean to us today?
7. 23:36 The soldiers also
mocked him, coming up
and offering him sour
wine,
23:37 and saying, "If you
are the King of the Jews,
save yourself!"
23:38 There was also an
inscription over him, "This
is the King of the Jews."
8. What is the message for TODAY?
Insults and curses became actual truth:
The soldiers made fun of Him, teasing Him,
proclaiming Him “King of the Jews”
But it was true: He was on His throne!
What does this mean to us today?
9. 23:39 One of the criminals
who were hanged there
kept deriding him and
saying, "Are you not the
Messiah? Save yourself and
us!"
23:40 But the other rebuked
him, saying, "Do you not
fear God, since you are
under the same sentence of
condemnation?
10. What is the message for TODAY?
As sinners in this world, there are 2 ways we
can respond to Jesus:
1. Doubt His authenticity, it is quite ridiculous!
2. Realise our sinfulness, realise His innocence
11. 23:41 And we indeed have been
condemned justly, for we are getting
what we deserve for our deeds, but
this man has done nothing wrong."
23:42 Then he said, "Jesus,
remember me when you come into
your kingdom."
23:43 He replied, "Truly I tell you,
today you will be with me in
Paradise."
12. What is the message for TODAY?
How then can we be saved?
1. Acknowledge it is not by ourselves
2. The King is here: reach out to Him
13. What is the message for TODAY?
EVERYONE is in Jesus’ plan to be
saved
• It is a Jesus thing….
• This is a REMINDER of HOPE in
JESUS… He is the only way, but He
IS the way,
• Giving up? Stop that!
• Someone does not deserve to be
saved? Stop that!
• Jesus FORGIVES, how about you?
