This document defines and provides examples of three types of irony: dramatic irony, where the audience understands more than a character; verbal irony, saying one thing but meaning the opposite with sarcasm; and situational irony, when a situation turns out opposite of what was expected. Examples are given for each type, such as a character being proud of a test score not knowing it was cheated, or Bill Gates using an Apple computer.
