My name is James Williams and my goal as an educator is to secure a contract in an environment which allows for self-development and encourages innovation.   Presently I work at NIST (nist.ac.th) in Bangkok, Thailand. NIST is an IB school and I've been here for going on 5 years. The change I seek is to be part of another school that takes holistic education seriously. Presently, I teach Theory of Knowledge and I'm also the department coordinator and as well as teaching Humanities in years 7, 8, and 10.  In my time with NIST I have also taught MYP English and Fine Arts and have coordinated the NIST Amnesty International group.  My work experience also includes 6 years on the Hopi and Navajo reservation in the US and 6 years in Micronesia.  My wife is Thai and our interests include hiking and camping.  Just last summer we spent 3 weeks on the Big Island of Hawaii hiking endlessly the volcano and the coastline. Outdoor opportunities are something we value and enjoy. I've been fortunate to include this outdoor aspect of my life into the work place.  I have for the past four years been an EOTC (education outside the classroom) coordinator for year 8 and have attended EOTC courses. Another interest I have tried is to integrate into my work is my love of photography, sponsoring and co-teaching a workshop for S.E Asia students in 2006 (http://nistseasac.blogspot.com/).  Blogs are an intricate part of my classes. I have developed external Blogs for each of my classes to involve my students in interactive and collaborative investigations on unit or topics and significant concepts. I hope this adequately provides a sketch of who I am.
Blogs are an intricate part of my classes. I have developed external Blogs for each of my classes to involve my students in interactive and collaborative investigations on unit or topics and significant concepts. Many of the media works were edited or created by James Williams. Please keep in mind the blog comments are raw so as to encourage students to work without the weight of assessment. During Year 7 the students undertake a course of study that introduces them to both some of the areas incorporated in Humanities and the skills needed to study this subject. http://year7humanities.blogspot.com/
Three major inquiries will be undertaken in the Year 8 Humanities program:   How do new ideas change the world we live in?Why did different cultures begin the age of exploration and invasion? How did this impact on indigenous cultures? We will investigate major movements for world exploration in Europe, China, and the Middle East.   What role do people play in shaping the lives of others elsewhere in the world today, and historically? Why do some consider colonialism negative, while others consider colonialism positive? What are the long lasting affects of colonialism and imperialism? How is imperialism still happening today?   Can development be universal and sustainable for all people? How can we determine the standard of living in a country? The major focus will be on understanding and analyzing development of countries through the Human Development indicators with a particular emphasis on the development challenges facing China. http://ideasandchange.blogspot.com/
The Year 10 Humanities course uses an integrated approach of teaching and learning, bringing together the skills and knowledge of history, geography, economics and business.  The course uses the United States of America and South Africa as stimuli to explore issues and concepts.    Year 10 tries to address the Guiding Question: To what extent should a government be accountable for the welfare of its people? http://governmentaccountable.blogspot.com/
Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is an interdisciplinary requirement intended to stimulate critical reflection on the knowledge and experience gained inside and outside the classroom. The course challenges students to question the bases of knowledge, to be aware of subjective and ideological biases, and to develop the ability to analyze evidence expressed in rational argument. TOK encourages students to become aware of themselves as thinkers, and to be critical of the assumptions on which much knowledge is based. http://tokstuff12.blogspot.com/
