6. During this unit the students will be introduced to the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. The students will be involved in different activities where they will learn how to recognize and sort the coins. The students will also learn short poems about the coins so that they are able to remember what the coin looks like and how much the coin is worth. Overall the students will work both individually and collaboratively to gain knowledge about the coins.
7. As the teacher, it will be my job to guide the students in their learning. I will do my best to provide the students with as many opportunities as I can to ensure they learn about coins. I will provide a structured but fun classroom for the students.
8. As the parent, it will be your job to practice these new skills at home. The more reinforcement the students get the better they will retain the knowledge. It is also the parents’ job to be a good support system for their child.
9. As the student, it will be your job to do the very best you can. Make sure that you are on your very best behavior and that you are trying very hard. The teacher can give you all the opportunities to learn but in the end it is your decision.
10. This unit will be very beneficial to the students because coins are in their everyday life. It is very important that students understand how to properly recognize money and know the value of it.
