3. SPIRIT OF TRUTH AND ERROR
I JOHN 4:1-6
1 ¶ Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether
they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the
world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that
Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the
flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have
heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because
greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the
world heareth them.
6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of
God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit
of error.

4. TWO RELIGIOUS SPIRITS IN THE BEGINNING
GENESIS 4:1
1 ¶ And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain,
and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.

sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

…..So all these things that you see taking place on earth, they
begin in Genesis, for Genesis is the seed chapter of the
Bible, the--the beginning. So you see, those spirits was upon
those men back in those days, still live on men today. See?
Satan takes a man, but the spirit lives on.
God takes His man, but the Spirit lives on. That makes
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever. He took
Christ Jesus, but the Spirit, the Holy Spirit come back, and
has been upon the people in the church all down through
the ages (See?), because God takes His men, but not His
Spirit. Satan takes his man, and you find them same spirits;
watch their nature.

garden of Eden because that death had come to their--their
parents and them, both of these boys was very religious
boys.
Now, if you want to find out what day we're living in, if you
want to find out what kind of a crop's going to come up out
here, go back and find out what kind of seed you got
planted. And now, Genesis is the seed or the beginning. And
how that back there in the beginning, we see the spirits
move up.

19. THE IDENTIFACATION OF A TRUE AND FALSE PROPHETS

they're prophets all down through the ages, but they always
get away from the Word of the Lord. But a true prophet stays
exactly on the Word. Now, don't forget that quotation. A true
prophet stays with THUS SAITH THE LORD.
Jesus warned us in the last days what would happen. But a--a
true servant, the true prophet, never fails to stay right with
THUS SAITH THE LORD.

never want to do that. We want to be absolutely sure that we got the
Word of the Lord before we say THUS SAITH THE LORD. See? It must
be a absolute, direct message from the throne of God or we should
never say it.

if they are a true prophet of the Word, God vindicates His
Word by that prophet.
Now, there's been many false prophets; we've had them all
through the ages. We go back to the Old Testament, see them
raise up and speak in the Name of the Lord, and it was--
wasn't right. God would have nothing to do with it. He never
vindicates nothing but His Own Word.

23. 4. A FALSE PROPHETS IS ONE WHO IS OUTSIDE THE WORD

Now in every case you will notice that a false prophet is one who is outside the
Word. Just as we showed you that 'antichrist' means 'anti-Word' so these false
prophets come perverting the Word, giving it a meaning that fits their own
devilish ends. Have you ever noticed how the people who lead others astray
bind them closely to themselves by fear? They say that if the people don't do
what they say, or if they leave, then destruction will follow. They are false
prophets, for a true prophet will always lead one to the Word and bind the
people to Jesus Christ and he won't tell the people to fear him or what he says,
but to fear what the Word says. Notice how these people like Judas are out for
money. They get you to sell all you have and give it to them and their schemes.
They spend more time on offerings than the Word. Those who attempt to
operate gifts will make use of a gift which has a margin of error in it and then
ask for money, and neglect the Word and call it of God. And people will go to
them, and bear with them, and support them, and believe them, not knowing
it is the way of death.

24. 5. THREE MAJOR THINGS A FALSE PROPHET FAILED

2-4 Now, a few weeks ago... I had--had promised the Lord eight or ten,
about ten years ago, when I left in 1946, when I left the Tabernacle, that I
would serve Him with all my heart in these campaigns, knowing that it was
going to be a great disturbance out there, because--and a lot of money
included and everything like that. So I--I knew that usually, in reading, that men
who get--the Lord bless them just a little bit, there's about three major things
that usually brings a minister to his--back to the rut. And noticing them: one
of them was money, women, popularity. And those three things... I noticed in
the Scriptures that where it... Money was the prophet Balaam, who sold out
his gifts to go and... on account of money--when Balak offered so much money.
Many of you are acquainted with the story.
To Samson, it was Delilah, the woman who wooed him in her lap until he give
away the secrets of the Lord to her.
And Saul, it was popularity; he was a prophet. The Bible said he was numbered
with the prophets. And through popularity he wanted to be big and above
someone else. He fell by this.

25. PROVED THEM BY GODS WORD ( WORD TEST )

revivals, have had. Looks good, doesn't it? You say, "Well,
Brother Branham, now you've got us on a limb." That's where
I wanted you. How you going to know what's right and
wrong? Give it the Word test. That's the way to tell whether
it's right or wrong. That's it; just--just give it the Word test.
See what it says about the Word. Any spirit, see what it says
about the Word. If it denies the Word, it's not of God. See?
No matter what it is, if it denies the Word, it's not of God.
