Welcome Fall 2015
Welcome returning student, transfer students and our largest freshman
class to date. Congrats on picking the campus where from day one, you
have a name, you have a voice and see you’re already contributing to
YOUR campus life and experience by joining our club! So let’s improve
our lives and our community for the better through your membership
with the PDC psychology club!
PDC Psychology Club is an undergraduate organization dedicated to
helping PDC students learn about the field of psychology. Activities
include workshops on time management and study skills to survive the
quarter system, local organizations with career opportunities at the
bachelor level that you can start now with opportunities for community
service, volunteering and interning prior to graduation, also workshops to
help with the application process for admission to graduate programs,
fafsa and scholarships. We will provide presentations from professionals
in various specialty areas in psychology. Psychology Club also facilitates
interaction between students, their needs and the psychology faculty. All
PDC students are welcome to join regardless of major.
Why Join the Psychology Club?
There are many subfields of psychology and
for students it can be difficult to determine
which “the best fit.” is So through
volunteering, internships, and speakers you
can learn first-hand what that area of
psychology entails, what population they
serve, and where your passion and drive fits
in. You will be happier and stable in your
career giving you greater expertise which
makes you more valuable
Learn about career opportunities in Psychology
and graduate schools. What are people doing
with their degrees? Where are these jobs?
What’s the pay scale? What are the
requirements? What’s the culture of that
company?
Start networking now through volunteering and internships; get your
name and your face out there. You’re already gaining work experience,
showing you’re serious and driven about creating your destiny. Apply
your book knowledge to the real world.

Interact with other Psychology majors share, ask, and know you’re not
alone. How, when do they study? Can they better explain that or put into
context that I might understand and remember, what works, what
doesn’t work.
Get to know your advisor and become acquainted with the faculty of the
Psychology Department they are more of a resource then you might
think. The more they know about you, your drive, your passion the
better references they can write, direct you to companies, scholarships
and opportunities that fit you and the best reason to participating is we
don’t want to only remember college for lectures, studying, and exams.
We need balance, we need fun and we need healthy positive ways to do
that so let’s start this year with a bang!

STUDY TIPS
Organize all your syllabuses on to one calendar or spread sheet then just start
doing them in order and crossing them off early, so you don’t have four to do in
one week.
Make flash cards from note within 24 hour and retain 60% more
Put flash cards on a key ring and study when you have a spare minute, waiting in
line etc. Make electronic ones and listen to them at gym or in car.
Don’t keep rereading notes to memorize, instead read once and recall what you
remembered, cross that info off and repeat. Past recollection makes future
recalling easier than remembering!
3. Meet your Community
Desert Recreation District-North Shore
With a growing number of younger families moving to North Shore, the
community is seeking more ways to enhance the quality of life of its residents. The
Salton Sea State Park provides free community events, including various holiday
activities, kayaking and bird walks. In addition, the recently restored North Shore
Beach & Yacht Club, which is owned by Riverside County and managed by Desert
Recreation District, is a significant part of California's legacy. DRD is exploring new
ways to make this historical landmark a vibrant recreational resource for North
Shore and surrounding communities. To contact your North Shore DRD Community
Services Coordinator, please call (760) 347-3484.
Volunteering Are you the type of person who likes to stay active and get involved
in your community? We can show you how to have a good time while helping
others, by helping out at DRD special events, assisting staff members in one of our
community centers or supervising park activities.
For information on how you can be part of the fun, please call (760) 347-3484 to
find out more about volunteering in your community!
