1. TLC’s library automation helps students, staff succeed
The Library Corporation understands the unique needs of school libraries and delivers
automation systems that help staff and students succeed. Established in 1974, TLC
serves more than 4,500 libraries worldwide including Chicago Public Schools, Hawaii
State Department of Education, Loudoun Country Day School, Simcoe County District
School Board in Canada, and St. Peter’s School in the United Kingdom. In 2016, TLC
was selected as the ILS provider for Nashville’s innovative Limitless Libraries initiative,
which melds the resources of Nashville Public Library with Nashville Metro Public
Schools to provide greater services and assets to the city’s youth.
TLC believes that teacher-librarians shouldn’t need to be techies to run their library and
cultivate a love of reading among students, so its Library•Solution for Schools
integrated library system is designed with intuitive, easy-to-use interfaces that promote
information literacy and support instructional standards. Library•Solution for Schools
includes Reading Level Integration, a powerful service that pulls data directly from Lexile
and Accelerated Reader vendors and associates by ISBN for searching and
display. This reduces cataloging time while ensuring library catalogs are always be up
to date with the most current reading level data. TLC’s Reading Level Integration also
has robust searching capabilities so users can search by an individual reading level or a
specified range, and see the information directly in their search results.
Library•Solution for Schools is bolstered by a full suite of Web-based modules that
deliver age-appropriate, customizable, highly attractive catalogs for students ranging
from kindergartners to high school seniors. The automation system and its
enhancements are scalable and optimized for touchscreen devices, so library resources
can be shared seamlessly on smart phones, wireless tablets, and laptop computers, a
feature that provides outstanding opportunities for individual classroom instructional
programs. Later this year, a new cataloging module, LS2 Cataloging, will be integrated
into the ILS to provide robust yet intuitive Web-based tools that simplify cataloging for
everyone from seasoned collections technicians to first-year library assistants.
Installed on a school district’s servers or implemented online via TLC’s hosting service,
Library•Solution for Schools is an easily maintained, affordable automation system that
aligns school media centers with instructional programs. Additional information about
