The Importance Of Nutrition
It goes without saying that around the United States and also around the world, there are hunger
problems. One crucial area is with school age children. Nutritious foods in the right amounts are
essential for everyone but particularly for children. In early childhood, adequate nutrition can ensure
healthy growth, proper organ formation and function, a strong immune system, and neurological and
cognitive development.(1) Nutrition also has increasingly been recognized as a basic pillar for social
and economic development. Well–nourished children can learn new skills, think critically and
contribute to society.(1) Many U.S. children lack proper nutrition. This is called malnutrition.
Malnutrition is caused by an insufficient or a poorly balanced diet. Child malnutrition affects
cognitive function and contributes to poverty by impeding people's ability to lead productive lives.
(1) Their diets do not provide them with adequate calories, proteins, vitamins or minerals for general
maintenance and growth. Some cannot even fully utilize the food they eat due to illness.
Malnutrition can cause chronic health issues. Children who are poorly nourished can suffer from a
variety of infections and serious illnesses. One illness is stunting. Stunting is where children are
below set standards for their height based on their age. Another illness is being underweight. This is
where children are significantly below standard weight levels for their age. Lastly is wasting.

Introduction
Nutrition allows the body to take in the fuel it needs and to maintain homeostasis in order to grow
and live. In her book on maintaining a healthy dance lifestyle, Gigi Berardi asserts that nutrition "is
critical to good performance and to a long dancing career because food is the main source of fuel for
muscles, body fluid replacement, and the other nutrients needed for fitness and health. An
inadequate diet may trigger injuries and prolong rehabilitation" (2004, p. 161). Particularly for
dancers, who are highly specialized athletes, nutrition can help or harm dance performance. In this
paper, I will analyze my own eating habits, introduce the science behind nutrition, look at the
components of a balanced diet, and amend my own eating habits for a healthier focus on nutrition in
the future.
Results and Analysis of Personal Food Journal
After looking over my seven–day food journal, I found that most of my meals and snacks contain
healthy macromolecules. I generally eat an adequate amount of fruits and vegetables. Personally, I
love fruit, so I make a point to eat it at least twice a day. I enjoy salads and vegetables, but I often
grow tired of the options on campus. Although I do not drink milk plain, I usually have low or
nonfat milk with tea. I eat Greek yogurt a few times a week, and I try to choose brands with low
sugar content. Sometimes, I add cheese to sandwiches or I eat it for a snack, and I pick low–fat
types. I always choose whole wheat or brown rice when I have the option. Since I do not eat meat, I
must make sure I get complete proteins from eggs, beans and rice, tofu, and fish. Chia seeds, plain
nuts, and nut butters make an appearance in my diet almost every day as a source of healthy fat and
protein. I eat granola bars between dance classes, but I pick brands with few ingredients, like
Larabar which is made of dates, dried fruit, and nuts.
When I go too long without food or I become hungry, I instinctively reach for sugary carbohydrates.
During my food journal period, these carbohydrates consisted of sugary tea drinks, muffins, cookies,
and crackers. Unhealthy fats appeared in my portion sizes of nuts and in my consumption of ice
cream. After the first day, I realized I did not

Every single day science is working to tell us exactly what types of foods to consume, how often we
should be engaging in physical activity, and what type of exercises will help the general population
of healthy adults maintain their health and wellness. Technology and economic incentives tend to
discourage physical activity in today's modern lifestyle. The time we live in is one where sitting at
your desk and staring at a computer screen all day pays more than going for a jog or hitting the gym.
Most people feel they lack the time at the end of the day to meet the physical activity standards that
the American College of Sports medicine recommends. It is the job of health professionals to inform
the public of just how important it is to follow these recommendations so that they may life long and
healthy lives. Unfortunately changing the behavior of the general population is an extremely
difficult task. There are many obstacles that people believe are keeping them from meeting these
guidelines such as schedule, environment, family, work, social obligations, money, and lack a
general lack of motivation. Education is perhaps our greatest combatant of these obstacles, and the
will to see people live long and happy lives. For the general population there are certain
recommendations for physical activity and nutrition that are important to follow to prevent chronic
illness, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The first recommendation is for healthy adults to complete a

School Lunch Programs Encourage Poor Nutrition
School lunch programs are one of the leading causes for the health epidemic among children. Most
parents do not realize that allowing their children to eat lunch at school is harmful to their health.
Patricia Froberg is a nutritionist at a medical center for children. She says she cringes whenever one
of her patients says that they get their lunch from school (Yeoman 1). This is due to the malnutrition
of meals provided by the schools. The effects of eating at school can affect anyone, but studies have
found that poor children are more greatly affected by the school's lack of nutrition because they tend
to eat both breakfast and lunch at the school, which is at least two–thirds of the calories that they
will eat each day of the week (Yeoman 4). The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the
School Breakfast Program (SBP) are two of the programs that provide meals to students everyday.
They have certain federal requirements that they have to follow. These limits include the types of
food included in each meal and the nutrients of these items ("School Lunch Programs Encourage
Proper Nutrition" 1). Although the government says that school lunches meet federal nutrition
standards, school lunch programs encourage poor nutrition because of high fat levels, the use of
unsafe meat, and its contribution to obesity.
One reason that school lunch programs

Several factors contribute to poor nutritional status among children, such as shortage of food,
cultural feeding practices and negative food beliefs within in the households. UNICEF reported in
2015 that under–nutrition accounts for 40% of children's death under the age of five. Additionally, it
stated that 33% of children are chronically undernourished, 5% are severely undernourished, and
14% are underweight. Sadly, chronic under–nutrition permanently stunts the growth of the body and
brain of a child.
The burden of diseases is another issue that accounts for the poor quality of health in Uganda.

Nutrition And Pregnancy : Nutrition
Chapter – 5
Maternal Nutrition in Pregnancy
Nutrition and pregnancy refers to the nutrient intake, and dietary planning that is undertaken before,
during and after pregnancy. The conception and the subsequent weeks afterwards is the time when it
is at its most vulnerable, as it is the time when the organs and systems develop within. The enegy
used to create these systems comes from the energy and nutrients in the mother's circulation, and
around the lining of the womb, such is the reason why correct nutrient intake during pregnancy is so
important. There is a recognised need for good nutrition during pregnancy, breastfeeding and in the
early years of life. Adequate nutrition in pregnant women is important to allow the fetus to grow and
develop physically and mentally to its full potential. It has a major impact on infant mortality,
growth and development and forms the foundations of health in later life. Folic acid
supplementation, bodh pre–conceptually and in the first twelve weeks of pregnancy, is particularly
important as it significantly reduces the risk of neural tube defect (NTD).
Good nutrition befoer, during and after pregnancy is important to the mother herself–both in the
short–and long–term. She needs to the have sufficient energy and appropriate levels of nutrients to
maintain her own health as well as provide for the fetus and future breastfeeding needs. In the UK,
nutrient requirements and healthy eating recommendations for women before, during and after

Nutrition : A Good Amount Of Healthy Nutrition
Nutrients are chemical substances obtained from food and used in the body to provide energy,
structural materials and regulating agents to support growth, maintenance and repair of the body's
tissues.(Understanding Nutrition) there are six major classes of nutrients proteins Carbohydrates,
lipids vitamins minerals and water. In order to keep a healthy mind and body you have to be aware
of what you are consuming and the roles the various nutrients play a role in your body. While it
seems obvious why our bodies need a good amount of healthy nutrition from foods, a great amount
of today's population still lack understanding to make them want to change their diets and eating
habits. They all must be in balance for the body to function properly
Protein is one of the most important nutrients in the body. They form essential parts of the body such
as skin muscles and bones. When proteins are digested they are broken down into simpler sections
called amino acids. These acids can be converted to fat when protein intakes is exceeded which can
lead to weight gain. They can be used to make other nitrogen compounds and used for energy
immediately or for later use. Along with weight gain excess protein is also harmful in that it's been
implicated in chronic diseases such as cancer osteoporosis heart disease and kidney stones. However
there is insufficient evidence to establish an upper level. On the other hand protein deficiency will

Case Study On Nutrition And Nutrition
Nutrition is a topic that any people are not educated properly. If people do not have a healthy diet,
then people are more susceptible to chronic diseases such as diabetes and cancer. Many chronic
diseases that are diet–based are easily preventable, but a lot of people in the United States suffer
from chronic diseases that are based on diet. If people have a healthy diet, then there supply of
nutrients in the body will prevent many chronic diseases and have a healthy immune system. I was
assigned to record the meals I eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for two weeks. After recording the
meal I ate for two weeks, I also recorded the amount of carbohydrate, lipid, and protein intake per
day for the whole two weeks. The recording of protein, lipid, and carbohydrate was to assess
whether I ate the sufficient amount of nutrients. Before I began my case study, my hypothesis was
that I did not eat the sufficient amount of nutrients needed to maintain a healthy diet. Material and
Methods Microsoft excel was the program used to record the amount of carbohydrate, lipids, and
protein consumed (in grams) in addition to adding the names of the food eaten. Subjects were
instructed to eat the foods they ate regularly, so there would not be any bias in the case study. The
calories were calculated by average calorie intake per day and average weekly intake and an
estimation of average daily water intake. Exercise time also needed to be recorded if fitness session
was at least 30 minutes.

Nutrition in older adults can become a problem for many and is an even greater threat to this
population then obesity. Physiologic and psychosocial changes in adults over the age of 65 affect
their food consumption. Risks factors for malnutrition include diet, limited income, isolation,
chronic illness, and physiologic changes (Amella & DiMaria–Ghalili, p.40). Older adults with a
limited income have to change their shopping styles or eat less meals in a day according to the
money available. They may choose bread and juice over healthier options. Older adults who live by
themselves cook less and enjoy their food less. Older adults who suffer from disabilities may not be
able to cook or aren't able to travel to a supermarket because of their disability or lack of
transportation. Illness and medications may decrease their appetite. Dental health and taste can alter
their consumption in food.
According to the Nutrition Screening Initiative (NSI) 40% to 60 % of hospitalized older adults are
malnourished or at risk; 40% to 85% of nursing home resident are malnourished, and 20% to 60% of
home care patients are also suffering from malnourishment. Malnutrition is associated with loner
lengths of stay in hospitals, increased costs, diminished muscle strength, wounds that heal poorly,
risk for pressure ulcers, infections, and postoperative complications Amella & DiMaria–Ghalili,

Water: Water helps to maintain homeostasis in the body and transports nutrients to cells. Water helps
remove waste products from the body. It also keeps you hydrated and energized. All beverages and
foods like soup and watermelon contain water. "Adults should consume 25–35 milliliters of fluids
per kilogram body weight or 2–3 liters per day" (healthyeating.sfgate.com). Good nutrition means
getting the right amount of nutrients from healthy foods in the right combinations. Knowing about
nutrition and making smart choices about the foods you eat can help you achieve good health. Good
health avoids obesity and a great number of illnesses.
Nutrition for Kids
Nutrition is very important for everyone, but especially for kids. Nutrition is directly linked to all
aspects of their growth and development. It is the base of their level of health as they grow into
adults. "A child with the right balance of omega fatty acids in their daily diet has a much better
chance at creating a more solid foundation for their brain activity and capabilities later on. Likewise,
a child who practices a low fat and cholesterol diet on a daily basis significantly improves their
chances of preventing a heart attack" (childrensheartcenter.org).

as well as medical and psychiatric doctors, have concluded that optimal academic potential can only
be achieved when accurate nutritional practices are in play. Malnutrition results from an inadequate
consumption of the essential vitamins and nutrients. Parents and students seem unaware of the
academic devastation caused by having an improper nutrition. Childhood nutrition has been a major
focus for research and study for many years. Educators and doctors have studied the effects of

Misbehavior cannot be caused by malnutrition itself. Many different factors contribute to a child's
inappropriate behavior in school. Having an improper nutrient balance is one of those factors. Many
people are unaware of the beneficial and detrimental effects food does have on altering a child's
behavior. Your Mental Health (1998) outlines certain behaviors that can be distorted by consuming
particular nutrients. Frances and First (1998) also discuss the damage behavioral problems cause to
a child's educational performance. Behavior problems are otherwise known as classroom
disruptions. Disruptions within a classroom result in every student's inability to focus and learn, as
well as the teacher's inability to conduct lessons and teach new material. Tanner and Finn–Stevenson
(2002) support these findings in the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry in an article entitled
"Nutrition and Brain Development". Specific nutrients were reported to directly affect a child's
behavior. Stress is placed on the successful usage of food for behavioral disorders, instead of taking
the typical medication route. Children must possess the ability to behave in order to move forward
in life. Misbehavior is neither tolerated in the classroom or

Mastering Nutrition
Natural health and nutrition is something that is commonly overlooked in today's American society.
Health cannot only change the way a person feels about their body, it can change a person's outlook
on life. Being healthy does not necessarily mean going to the gym, or exercising at all. Something as
simple as changing a diet can have a bigger and longer lasting effect on a host of diseases and other
conditions. Changing ones diet can even have a greater effect than medication. It is, however,
getting progressively more difficult to be a healthy eater because major companies are processing
food and adding dangerous and unnecessary chemicals to the product. Moving away from eating
fatty and salty convenience and highly processed foods could/will help decrease the possibility of
heart and health problems in the future. Nutritional supplements are meant to help an already
healthy diet not replace one, but in a generally healthy diet, they might not be needed, in more cases,
however, they may be useful in providing more nutrients. To understand the perks of healthy eating,
one must have to take a step back and understand the chemicals that are put into processed food and
how they affect the body. To fully understand health one must understand nutrition basics, processed
chemicals, and common misconceptions.

Jonathan Barker Dr. Moline Nutrition Final Exam 1. Carbs– carbohydrates are a vital source of our
energy within the body. Carbs are the key nutrients that give our brains and red blood cells their
energy. These carbs also come in different forms such as Fiber, which is a very important form or
nutrient to our bodies. This is because fiber is tremendously important to our bodys digestive
system. If someone took in too much fiber within their diet, it could cause terrible diarrhea. On the
other hand, if someone does intake enough fiber in the daily diet, this could result in the cause of
colon cancer. Another key nutrient for our body is fats. There are 4 types of fats ( monounsaturated,
saturated, polyunsaturated, and finally trans fat). These fats help our body digest or break down

about adolescents who are obese but also about adolescents who have unhealthy attitudes toward

Nutrition is the relationship of foods to the health of the human body .
Proper nutrition means that you are receiving enough foods and supplements for the body to
function at optimal capacity. It is important to remember that no single nutrient or activity can
maintain optimal health and well being, although it has been proven that some nutrients are more
important than others. All of the nutrients are necessary in different amounts along with exercise to

It is believed that there are about twenty substances that are active as vitamins in human nutrition .
Every vitamin is essential to the proper growth and development of the body. With a few exceptions,
the body cannot make vitamins and must be supplied with them.
Vitamins contain no energy but are important as enzymes which help speed up nearly all metabolic
functions. Also, vitamins are not building components of body tissues, but aid in the construction of
these tissues. It is impossible to reliably determine the vitamin requirements of an individual
because of differences in age, sex, body size, genetic makeup, and activity. A good source of a
recommendation is the RDA. The RDA makes it's recommendations based on studies of
consumption of the given nutrient. On the recommendation it will usually specify what size diet the
recommendation is based on, for example, a two thousand calorie per day diet. It is harmless to
ingest excess of most vitamins. However, some vitamins are toxic in large amounts. Vitamin A is a
fat soluble vitamin which is only available in two forms. Pre–formed, which is found in animal

by societies idea of healthy living which can lead to eating disorders or obesity. With the use of
education, teens can have life long positive effects from eating healthy. This can easily be prevented
through proper education on how to implement exercise, healthy eating habits, and informing them
on the consequences of not eating healthy. In school, teens are taught the essentials to have a

"Vitamin supplements are important in preventing deficiency and diseases. New research suggests
that taking increased amounts of vitamins C, E and A, may help reduce risk of cancer and heart

Does nutrition have effects on academic performance?
The relationship between nutrition and academic performance has been a great interest to various
amounts of schools and scientist all over the world. "Studies have shown that proper nutrition has a
direct effect on student performance and behavior in school" (Ross, 2010, p.3). "Existing data
suggests that with better nutrition students are able to learn, students have fewer absences, and
students' behavior improves causing fewer disruptions in the classroom" (Extension, 2014, p.1). To
explore the link between nutrition and academic performance, this essay will critically evaluate what
foods react differently in our bodies in relation to academic performance, specifically for school–
aged children and university students. This essay is divided into three main sections; first, it will
examine the effects of poor nutrition such as a limited variety of nutrient–rich foods and excess of
high fat and sugary foods, such as fast food, pies, chocolate and more. Secondly, it will examine the
effects of good nutrition such as fruits, vegetables, grains and healthy fats. Thirdly it will examine
the effects of not eating, specifically focusing on breakfast before school and its effects on learning.
All food impacts our brains and the way they work. Poor nutrition can be classified as an excess
amount of nutrient poor foods such as fast food, cakes and more, and a limited amount of nutrient–
rich foods such as fruit, vegetables, and whole grains (Vautier, 2012). Nutrient rich foods provide
high volumes of all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to function at its optimum, whereas
poor nutrition will contain little to no vitamins or minerals. Many school–aged children and
university students consume fast foods on a daily basis which has been shown to cause lower test
grades and a weaker ability specifically in Math, Science and Reading (Guiang, 2014). Researchers
from the Ohio State University have said that students who ate these types of food had shown test
scores 20% lower than students who did not consume fast food at all (Guiang, 2014). Foods with
high sugar and fat content reduce energy levels and lower the ability to concentrate for an extended

Nutrition is the science that investigates the relationship between physiological function and the
essential elements of the foods we eat. According to Rebecca J. Donatelle, in her book, "My

cannot synthesize certain essential nutrients, we must obtain them from the foods we eat." What we
eat becomes our diet, and our diet is crucial to how healthy, we are and how well our body

For instance, carbohydrates supply the body with energy needed to sustain daily activity. Protein
helps transport iron, oxygen, and nutrients, helps muscles to recover stronger than before as well as
help the skin and hair cell to develop. Fiber, helps move foods through the digestive system, delays
absorption of cholesterol and other nutrients and softens stools by absorption of water. Some
substances such as fats and sugar can be misinterpreted as being harmful to the body. Nonetheless,
fats and sugars are vital to the human body and without them, certain function in out body could not

Nutrition Reflection For Nutrition
Raniel Gernale
HHM Course
1. Nutrition for Health
Nutrition is a concept that plays an important role in our well–being. Our body and the way we feel
reflect on what foods we ingest as well as how we take care of ourselves. This course allowed us to
analyze our diets in order to see how well we were with nutrition. I was lacking a significant amount
of vitamins and minerals, as well as a few macronutrients. My physical activity level was about
average so that was another improvement I had to make. The way we feel correlates to how we eat.
Junk food can cause our skin to break out as well as make us feel sluggish throughout the day. This
course has helped me make a change in my eating habits for the better. One change that I have been
proud to make is that I am now accustomed to drinking black coffee. Originally, I would load in a
lot of cream and sugar, but that is no way healthy at all. I now feel so much better knowing that I am
able to make and keep even the smallest changes in my lifestyle.
2.How Judaism Approaches Life
This course has taught me several ways of maintaining happiness and sharing kindness. Each week,
we were to write a journal of a chapter we read in our books. Each chapter consisted of a lesson to
be learned as well as short stories from the author of ways he achieved these lessons. One lesson
that resonated within me was about doing what you enjoy, and enjoying the things you do. A person

Good Nutrition And Nutrition
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
Good nutrition is critical to health. Diverse, high quality food is critical to nutrition. And agriculture
plays a key role in producing and improving access to the nutritious food needed for healthy,
productive lives (Maher et al., 2015). Naturally, most people would say agriculture is about growing
food and rearing animals; they are right. Agricultural performance, after all, is measured in terms of
production measured in yield, grain production and output. The purpose of agriculture, however,
does not stop there. At a deeper level, the purpose of agriculture is not just to grow crops and
livestock for food and raw materials, but to grow healthy, well–nourished people (IFPRI and ILRI,
2010).
Good nutrition is the foundation for healthy, effective and productive lives. Good nutrition in
mothers improves their likelihood of giving birth to healthy babies, with strong immune systems and
well–developed brains (Maher et al., 2015).Continued good nutrition helps those children carry on
growing in strength and resilience. They're more apt to fight off disease, do better in school and have
more opportunity to reach their full potential in life (IFPRI, ... Show more content on

Common staples in most Nigerian homes are insufficient and do not provide a balanced diet.
Therefore malnutrition is inevitably prevalent in most homes due to ability to utilize food properly

to adulthood for proper growth and physical development, to ensure optimal work capacity and
ensure the adequacy of immune mechanism and resistance to infections (WHO, 2008).Nutrition is
therefore an essential input for healthy living and human development. Improved nutrition means

Diabetes Nutrition
Healthy food choices are important for our nutrition. In order for all of us to feel better, maintain a
healthy weight and be protected from diseases and other harmful conditions we need to pay close
attention to what we put into our bodies. However, if you have been diagnosed with diabetes, your
food selections become even more important, since diabetes nutrition can have an even greater
impact on your health.
The good news is that diabetes nutrition is really not that different from the healthy food choices that
the rest of the population should make. It simply becomes more important to make those choices
carefully and consistently if you have this disease.

Malnutrition is still an existing global issue which requires the action of breastfeeding to help end it.
Additionally, breastfeeding provides an immense number of beneficial factors and is vital in part of
sufficient and natural development.
Advocating for breastfeeding is intended to promote health and nutrition towards maternal and child
survival.
We hope to promote an environment for women and children to thrive. We need to include aid from
the government and associated civil–society movements as well as other individuals and
organizations working for the common good. Susceptible groups including single mothers,
adolescents, and migrants are impacted by malnutrition thus making it our goal to create an
inclusive environment focusing on young populaces and exposed groups.
In whole, we hope to engage others in being proactive towards this cause. Working collectively will
allow the organization to adopt and implement nutrition plans to place breastfeeding and nutrition as
basic human rights in both urban and rural communities.
Breastfeeding is the key contributor in regard to providing babies with the best potential start in life
as it aids in survival, health, and wellbeing of both mothers and their infants.

Nutrition Assignment For all children the provision of good nutrition is of utmost importance. For
the majority of children, diet should be a varied and balanced mixture of foods that will provide
sufficient energy and nutrients to maintain growth and good health (Holden, C., MacDonald, A.,
2000). In order to complete this assignment I will be looking at how the Food and Nutrition Essence
of Care Benchmark, is implemented in practice. The health deficit I have chosen is the special
dietary requirements of a cystic fibrosis child and how they are encouraged to eat in order to
promote health within a general paediatric ward. There are nine benchmarks which all consist of
different factors to help achieve best practice. I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to implement best practice it is important to remember that nutritional support is often
required to maintain the child's existing nutritional status as well as to promote growth and
development (Holden et al 2000). There are three levels of nutritional support, which include high
protein/high energy diet, dietary supplements and enternal feeding (Holden et al 2000). Holden et al
(2000) also states that an adequate intake should be monitored by weight gain and growth. Energy–
rich foods, particularly foods that are high in fat and sugar are encouraged. The diet should be based
on a good routine with the inclusion of foods from all food groups, but the emphasis is on foods
with a higher fat and sugar content. The Patient's Charter (1997) states that patients should have a
choice of dishes including meals suitable for all dietary needs. In practice children who do not gain
adequate weight and have a poor appetite are encouraged to take dietary supplements by the health
professionals. Many children do not like dietary supplements for various reasons so require a fair
amount of encouragement from parents, the dietician, cystic fibrosis nurse specialist and other
members of the multi–disciplinary team. Although many individuals will have a role to play in
caring for children on a special diet, it is essential that the treatment be coordinated by a specialist

The Evolution of Nutrition
Evolution of Nutrition Human understanding of nutrition has evolved exponentially over the course
of the last century. Up until the turn of the 20th century, there was little interest in researching
nutrition. Almost all of the nutritional knowledge of the time came from the philosophies and
opinions from immigrants. America had minimal knowledge while other countries had began to
invest in nutritional research. Part of the reason this subject began to grow at the time was because
of the fear of falling behind other nations. Additionally, the lifestyle of the average citizen was
different. The majority of America was rural farmland so they were physically active. The general
consensus of the people was that a good diet resulted in good ... Show more content on

The industrialization allowed for the creation of many new thoughts and ideas. In the next 15 years
it became clear that nutrition was a field of growing interest and importance.
Jobs in the nutrition industry are well established and the government begins to give their input on
certain areas. One example is when the Department of Agriculture issued the first dietary
recommendations based on five food groups. This is comparable to the modern day food pyramid. It
contains the daily recommended amount of food from breads, greens, dairy, meats and sweets. This
is important because there was now a standardized guideline for what to eat in existence. Also
around this time, food processing became the largest manufacturing industry in the United States.
The industrialization of the food industry is now evidently powerful and continually growing.
Instead of simply a way of life, food and nutrition had transformed into a business superpower. The
entire manufacturing industry now looked up to the nutrition industry. Considering how many
people worked in the manufacturing sector during the time, this was a demonstration and milestone
of importance for the nutrition industry. The rapid expansion promoted the opening of thousands of
family–owned restaurants and taverns throughout the country. Eating out first began its growth in
popularity during this time. Another large part of the industry, however restaurants were

Bodybuilding Nutrition And Nutrition
Bodybuilding Nutrition
Bodybuilding is a sport where men and women's goal is to achieve a symmetrical and muscular
physique with low body fat percentages, usually in order to win a competition. Many factors go into
reaching these goals such as resistant training, genetics, mental will power and nutrition. While all
of these factors are important to a bodybuilder, nutrition seems to be one of the most important,
most researched and most tested and manipulated branch of the bodybuilders lifestyle. Specifically,
the effects of protein on a bodybuilder, the ideal macronutrient ratios (carbs, fat, and protein) for fat
loss and muscle maintenance. and nutrition's effect on resistance training recovery have been studies
to further optimize a bodybuilders physique.
The important yet controversial topic of optional protein intake has been a hot topic for years in
many areas such as the needs for sedentary induvial, sports athletes, Olympic athletes and
bodybuilders. However it is generally agreed upon that while the RDA standard of .75–.80 g/kg of
body weight a day is enough to keep those with physical activities in there day to day life in a
positive nitrogen balance, this is not the case for bodybuilders due to their goals of increasing
muscle mass and intense training. (Masedu, Ziruolo, Valenti, & Di Giulio, 2012) A more beneficial
protein intake for bodybuilders should sit around 1.7–2.2 g/kg of body weight a day if the induvial

scores (Z scores came from the healthy Korean pop 2007 charts.) of height and serum protein were
significantly (p 75. Also in the children with GFR < than .05). Poor appetite and avoidance of food

There was a significant improvement in highest z score by the end of the follow up with a P=0.001.
Short stature went from 29% to 18%. Children under 2 years of age also had statistically significant
improvements in the height z scores when compared to other age groups. This is associated with the
fact that there was an early correction of nutrition factors that contribute to growth retardation. The
study showed that over time the biochemical data significantly improved, even for those children
who reached stage 5 their status remained stable. Even though GFR decreased with time
biochemical and hematological parameters remained stable, showing that MNT works. The decline
in GFR was not significantly correlated to nutrition status (P= .4). Some children did not develop
properly even when there was adequate nutrition and metabolic control. These patients there would
benefit from taking recombinant growth hormone (rhGH). Human rhGH was not prescribed because
it is costly and still not available in Brazil (Silva, 2015). A retrospective study examined the effect

Speech On Nutrition And Nutrition
Everyone knows the popular saying "health is wealth" which gives a large meaning to our life. Well
when it comes to fitness, it can be described as a condition that helps us look, feel and do our best at
our finest. It's also a simple fact that what we eat affects who we are. With the popular saying "you

through the day to day basis. Yes, trust me this true, because when I tried to eat healthy and trying to
exercise more often for these past three and a half weeks. Well it was something I can tell you that.
In my fitness and nutrition plan I was highly specific on everything to what and where to make me

The Effects of Nutrition on Cognition throughout the Lifespan The healthcare industry is changing
its tune from care based on reaction to disease, to a focus more on prevention of disease and
promotion of good health. A large component of this focus will be on nutrition due to its key role in
sustaining physical and mental health (Kamath, Venkatappa, & Sparshadeep, 2017, para 2).
Historically, nutrition was thought to only play a small role in health maintenance, but is now
showing potential to be more beneficial than medicinal efforts (Kris–Etherton et al., 2014, para 1).
Through ongoing research, adequate nutrition is essential to providing a solid foundation for growth
of cognition in children, all the way through the lifespan, to affect the longevity of cognition in older
adults and proper nutrition education must be supported by the role of the nurse and others within
the healthcare team.
Effects of Cognition in Malnourished Children
There is evidence that nutrition during the school age is a critical period for the foundation of
cognitive growth and advancement according to a study done by Kamath, Venkatappa, &

Organization (WHO), categorized by percent growth according to weight and height of child. A
child must be within the average standards to be considered adequately nourished. Well below the
average of these standards is considered malnourished and the brain function of a

Nutrition 251, And It Focuses On The Principles Of Nutrition
I have recently been taking a course in college called Nutrition 251, and it focuses on the principles
of nutrition. In this class, I had to read a book from Michael Pollan called In the Defense of Food.
As I read, I could not help but remember all the things I have eaten. Pollan explains how food
changed over the years in the US and goes into great detail in how the industrialization of our food
has impacted our ways of eating, poisoning us with refined and processed foods. Reading Pollan's
work made me realize that the food we eat is not actually food. Back then, food was grown and not
scientifically engineered to provide humans with the nutrition we need. This book and course gave
me a lot of reasons why we, as a family, should be more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He built upon Prout's discovery and stated that the mystery of animal nutrition has been solved.
Liebig proposed that one did not need meat in their diet to survive. After declaring that, doctors
began to see that babies and sailors that followed his rule did not survive healthily. Pollan also stated
that "it seems to be a rule of nutritionism that for every good nutrient, there must be a bad nutrient"
(Pollan 30). After reading his idea, I realized that it is comparative to life and how I view people.
There is always something bad in good people. The second section of Pollan's work introduced me
to the western diet and the diseases of civilization. This section really opened up my eyes on how we
eat. For instance, Pollan stated that "immigrants from nations with low rates of chronic disease
seemed to quickly acquire them" (Pollan 92). After acknowledging that piece of information I could
not help but think of us. We are from a country that eats mostly home cooked meals, low fat diets,
and eating healthy. Before we came to the US, I could not remember of a time that we went to a fast
food place to eat. We would usually eat home cooked meals or go to a restaurant for special
occasions. Now, I eat fast food on a daily basis and I am worried about my own health. Ever since I
came to college, I have not gotten a home cooked meal since a month ago and that was only when I
went back home over the weekend. I think that if I was to go back

disease. Back then it was easy, and actually kind of fun, to have a nutrition assessment conducted on

Many Americans today do not track their calories or pay attention to what they are eating. As they
fail to do so, they also fail to analyze what nutrients, food groups, and physically activity they
receive adequately and which they lack. As I have tracked foods and beverages that I have
consumed, I have been able to collect data about which food groups/nutrients I consume adequately,
where the majority of my calories come from, and how my physical activity compares to that
recommended. As I analyze and compare my consumption to those recommended, my diet is not as
healthy as it could be. I enjoy to snack, unhealthily, and eat foods that are convenient for my
lifestyle rather than my health. I only received 57% of my calcium recommendations, 27% of
potassium, 77% of copper, 67% of iron, 49% of magnesium, 75% of phosphorus, 78% of zinc, 49%

Proteins, carbohydrates, and fats are the 3 macronutrients that our body uses for energy. There are
also many micronutrients, vitamins, and minerals that are essential to the body for proper function
and health. A person's food choices reflect upon their health in a positive or negative way. Whether
that be high cholesterol, obesity, anorexia, fatigue, or clear skin and energy. No matter how active
we are, our diet plays a huge role in our lifestyle. There can be complications with the factors that
influence food choices as well. Keeping a food intake log and being educated on how many

The animals and the plants that we consume constitute the food. This food has energy and nutrients
that are crucial to our bodies throughout our life supporting health and growth. The issue of nutrition
to human beings has been a concern with every person trying his best to get enough to eat. The
concern of the modern world about nutrition is on food safety, making quality diets, mineral intake
and obesity among others. Nutritionists examine these issues together with food availability and
safety in developing countries. Despite the confusion people have about the food and nutrition on
times natural calamities or harsh economic status, many people have achieved the nutrition
standards with few kids suffering malnutrition in different regions of the world. Therefore this paper
is of importance since it will shed some light on people who have not familiarized with the
nutritional requirements. "Nutrition is a science that studies food and how the food nourishes our
bodies" (Zimmerman, 2012). It revolves around the processes by which metabolism, digestion and
consumption, storage of nutrients and the long–term effects of the nutrients on the human bodies.
The human body does not operate properly when there isn't adequate nutrition. The severe
inadequacy of nutrition may contribute to a disease or even death. The typical diet is lacking in
many ways ranging from lack of being speedily consumed to lack of proper nutrition. The factors
that have led to food choice among many people include, the texture taste and appearance of the
food. Different people have a different range of taste for food, and this affects their choice of food.
Due to economic issues, access to fresh fruits and vegetable is limited to some groups especially
those who are socially disadvantaged and live in extremes regions. The people who were not
exposed to early food after they were born also find themselves with limited choices of food when
they grow old. "The culture also affects the choice of food, the geographical area, media publicity
through deceiving and genuine adverts, the health concern of an individual especially when
prescribed by the doctor and finally the habitat in which an individual has been brought up"(Lesley,
2008 pp 351).

As most know, maintaining a fairly healthy diet is important to the human body. When an individual
consumes a balanced diet, it comes with many advantages opposed to disadvantages. Most believe
that only a decent number of vitamins and minerals are what consist of a balanced diet, however,
eating enough macronutrients is important too. Macronutrients are those that are needed most by the
body, which includes proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates (Berning). Ultimately, when a person eats
the proper quantity and quality of food each day it provides a great amount of benefits along with
providing a healthy weight. When eating healthy, which a diet may include whole grains rather than
refined grains, limited fatty meats, low–fat dairy products, vegetables, and fruit – it boosts your
energy level tremendously (Healthy). Similarly, makes an individual in a better mood and helps
prevents particular diseases caused by poor eating habits. These diseases may include type 2
diabetes, high blood pressure, and even depression (Healthy). I conducted a minor experiment,
which required me to keep a food log. Based on the food log, it informed me of where I lacked in

The Importance Of Nutrition

  • 1. The Importance Of Nutrition It goes without saying that around the United States and also around the world, there are hunger problems. One crucial area is with school age children. Nutritious foods in the right amounts are essential for everyone but particularly for children. In early childhood, adequate nutrition can ensure healthy growth, proper organ formation and function, a strong immune system, and neurological and cognitive development.(1) Nutrition also has increasingly been recognized as a basic pillar for social and economic development. Well–nourished children can learn new skills, think critically and contribute to society.(1) Many U.S. children lack proper nutrition. This is called malnutrition. Malnutrition is caused by an insufficient or a poorly balanced diet. Child malnutrition affects cognitive function and contributes to poverty by impeding people's ability to lead productive lives. (1) Their diets do not provide them with adequate calories, proteins, vitamins or minerals for general maintenance and growth. Some cannot even fully utilize the food they eat due to illness. Malnutrition can cause chronic health issues. Children who are poorly nourished can suffer from a variety of infections and serious illnesses. One illness is stunting. Stunting is where children are below set standards for their height based on their age. Another illness is being underweight. This is where children are significantly below standard weight levels for their age. Lastly is wasting. Wasting is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Nutrition And Nutrition Introduction Nutrition allows the body to take in the fuel it needs and to maintain homeostasis in order to grow and live. In her book on maintaining a healthy dance lifestyle, Gigi Berardi asserts that nutrition "is critical to good performance and to a long dancing career because food is the main source of fuel for muscles, body fluid replacement, and the other nutrients needed for fitness and health. An inadequate diet may trigger injuries and prolong rehabilitation" (2004, p. 161). Particularly for dancers, who are highly specialized athletes, nutrition can help or harm dance performance. In this paper, I will analyze my own eating habits, introduce the science behind nutrition, look at the components of a balanced diet, and amend my own eating habits for a healthier focus on nutrition in the future. Results and Analysis of Personal Food Journal After looking over my seven–day food journal, I found that most of my meals and snacks contain healthy macromolecules. I generally eat an adequate amount of fruits and vegetables. Personally, I love fruit, so I make a point to eat it at least twice a day. I enjoy salads and vegetables, but I often grow tired of the options on campus. Although I do not drink milk plain, I usually have low or nonfat milk with tea. I eat Greek yogurt a few times a week, and I try to choose brands with low sugar content. Sometimes, I add cheese to sandwiches or I eat it for a snack, and I pick low–fat types. I always choose whole wheat or brown rice when I have the option. Since I do not eat meat, I must make sure I get complete proteins from eggs, beans and rice, tofu, and fish. Chia seeds, plain nuts, and nut butters make an appearance in my diet almost every day as a source of healthy fat and protein. I eat granola bars between dance classes, but I pick brands with few ingredients, like Larabar which is made of dates, dried fruit, and nuts. When I go too long without food or I become hungry, I instinctively reach for sugary carbohydrates. During my food journal period, these carbohydrates consisted of sugary tea drinks, muffins, cookies, and crackers. Unhealthy fats appeared in my portion sizes of nuts and in my consumption of ice cream. After the first day, I realized I did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Nutrition And Nutrition Every single day science is working to tell us exactly what types of foods to consume, how often we should be engaging in physical activity, and what type of exercises will help the general population of healthy adults maintain their health and wellness. Technology and economic incentives tend to discourage physical activity in today's modern lifestyle. The time we live in is one where sitting at your desk and staring at a computer screen all day pays more than going for a jog or hitting the gym. Most people feel they lack the time at the end of the day to meet the physical activity standards that the American College of Sports medicine recommends. It is the job of health professionals to inform the public of just how important it is to follow these recommendations so that they may life long and healthy lives. Unfortunately changing the behavior of the general population is an extremely difficult task. There are many obstacles that people believe are keeping them from meeting these guidelines such as schedule, environment, family, work, social obligations, money, and lack a general lack of motivation. Education is perhaps our greatest combatant of these obstacles, and the will to see people live long and happy lives. For the general population there are certain recommendations for physical activity and nutrition that are important to follow to prevent chronic illness, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The first recommendation is for healthy adults to complete a minimum of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Nutrition And Nutrition Essay Sarah West Mrs. Derryberry Advanced English Language Arts 12 November 15th, 2017 School Lunch Programs Encourage Poor Nutrition School lunch programs are one of the leading causes for the health epidemic among children. Most parents do not realize that allowing their children to eat lunch at school is harmful to their health. Patricia Froberg is a nutritionist at a medical center for children. She says she cringes whenever one of her patients says that they get their lunch from school (Yeoman 1). This is due to the malnutrition of meals provided by the schools. The effects of eating at school can affect anyone, but studies have found that poor children are more greatly affected by the school's lack of nutrition because they tend to eat both breakfast and lunch at the school, which is at least two–thirds of the calories that they will eat each day of the week (Yeoman 4). The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP) are two of the programs that provide meals to students everyday. They have certain federal requirements that they have to follow. These limits include the types of food included in each meal and the nutrients of these items ("School Lunch Programs Encourage Proper Nutrition" 1). Although the government says that school lunches meet federal nutrition standards, school lunch programs encourage poor nutrition because of high fat levels, the use of unsafe meat, and its contribution to obesity. One reason that school lunch programs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Additionally, it stated that 33% of children are chronically undernourished, 5% are severely undernourished, and 14% are underweight. Sadly, chronic under–nutrition permanently stunts the growth of the body and brain of a child. The burden of diseases is another issue that accounts for the poor quality of health in Uganda. • 11. Nutrition And Pregnancy : Nutrition Chapter – 5 Maternal Nutrition in Pregnancy Nutrition and pregnancy refers to the nutrient intake, and dietary planning that is undertaken before, during and after pregnancy. The conception and the subsequent weeks afterwards is the time when it is at its most vulnerable, as it is the time when the organs and systems develop within. The enegy used to create these systems comes from the energy and nutrients in the mother's circulation, and around the lining of the womb, such is the reason why correct nutrient intake during pregnancy is so important. There is a recognised need for good nutrition during pregnancy, breastfeeding and in the early years of life. Adequate nutrition in pregnant women is important to allow the fetus to grow and develop physically and mentally to its full potential. It has a major impact on infant mortality, growth and development and forms the foundations of health in later life. Folic acid supplementation, bodh pre–conceptually and in the first twelve weeks of pregnancy, is particularly important as it significantly reduces the risk of neural tube defect (NTD). Good nutrition befoer, during and after pregnancy is important to the mother herself–both in the short–and long–term. She needs to the have sufficient energy and appropriate levels of nutrients to maintain her own health as well as provide for the fetus and future breastfeeding needs. • 13. Nutrition : A Good Amount Of Healthy Nutrition Nutrients are chemical substances obtained from food and used in the body to provide energy, structural materials and regulating agents to support growth, maintenance and repair of the body's tissues.(Understanding Nutrition) there are six major classes of nutrients proteins Carbohydrates, lipids vitamins minerals and water. In order to keep a healthy mind and body you have to be aware of what you are consuming and the roles the various nutrients play a role in your body. While it seems obvious why our bodies need a good amount of healthy nutrition from foods, a great amount of today's population still lack understanding to make them want to change their diets and eating habits. They all must be in balance for the body to function properly Protein is one of the most important nutrients in the body. They form essential parts of the body such as skin muscles and bones. When proteins are digested they are broken down into simpler sections called amino acids. These acids can be converted to fat when protein intakes is exceeded which can lead to weight gain. They can be used to make other nitrogen compounds and used for energy immediately or for later use. Along with weight gain excess protein is also harmful in that it's been implicated in chronic diseases such as cancer osteoporosis heart disease and kidney stones. • 15. Case Study On Nutrition And Nutrition Nutrition is a topic that any people are not educated properly. If people do not have a healthy diet, then people are more susceptible to chronic diseases such as diabetes and cancer. Many chronic diseases that are diet–based are easily preventable, but a lot of people in the United States suffer from chronic diseases that are based on diet. If people have a healthy diet, then there supply of nutrients in the body will prevent many chronic diseases and have a healthy immune system. I was assigned to record the meals I eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for two weeks. After recording the meal I ate for two weeks, I also recorded the amount of carbohydrate, lipid, and protein intake per day for the whole two weeks. The recording of protein, lipid, and carbohydrate was to assess whether I ate the sufficient amount of nutrients. Before I began my case study, my hypothesis was that I did not eat the sufficient amount of nutrients needed to maintain a healthy diet. Material and Methods Microsoft excel was the program used to record the amount of carbohydrate, lipids, and protein consumed (in grams) in addition to adding the names of the food eaten. Subjects were instructed to eat the foods they ate regularly, so there would not be any bias in the case study. The calories were calculated by average calorie intake per day and average weekly intake and an estimation of average daily water intake. Exercise time also needed to be recorded if fitness session was at least 30 minutes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Physiologic and psychosocial changes in adults over the age of 65 affect their food consumption. Risks factors for malnutrition include diet, limited income, isolation, chronic illness, and physiologic changes (Amella & DiMaria–Ghalili, p.40). Older adults with a limited income have to change their shopping styles or eat less meals in a day according to the money available. They may choose bread and juice over healthier options. Older adults who live by themselves cook less and enjoy their food less. Older adults who suffer from disabilities may not be able to cook or aren't able to travel to a supermarket because of their disability or lack of transportation. Illness and medications may decrease their appetite. Dental health and taste can alter their consumption in food. According to the Nutrition Screening Initiative (NSI) 40% to 60 % of hospitalized older adults are malnourished or at risk; 40% to 85% of nursing home resident are malnourished, and 20% to 60% of home care patients are also suffering from malnourishment. • 21. Childhood Nutrition as well as medical and psychiatric doctors, have concluded that optimal academic potential can only be achieved when accurate nutritional practices are in play. Malnutrition results from an inadequate consumption of the essential vitamins and nutrients. Parents and students seem unaware of the academic devastation caused by having an improper nutrition. Childhood nutrition has been a major focus for research and study for many years. Misbehavior cannot be caused by malnutrition itself. Many different factors contribute to a child's inappropriate behavior in school. Having an improper nutrient balance is one of those factors. Many people are unaware of the beneficial and detrimental effects food does have on altering a child's behavior. Your Mental Health (1998) outlines certain behaviors that can be distorted by consuming particular nutrients. Frances and First (1998) also discuss the damage behavioral problems cause to a child's educational performance. Behavior problems are otherwise known as classroom disruptions. Disruptions within a classroom result in every student's inability to focus and learn, as well as the teacher's inability to conduct lessons and teach new material. Tanner and Finn–Stevenson (2002) support these findings in the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry in an article entitled "Nutrition and Brain Development". Specific nutrients were reported to directly affect a child's behavior. Stress is placed on the successful usage of food for behavioral disorders, instead of taking the typical medication route. Children must possess the ability to behave in order to move forward in life. Misbehavior is neither tolerated in the classroom or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Nutrition : Natural Health And Nutrition Essay Student ID 171651 Teacher ID 6789 Senior Project 16 March 2015 Mastering Nutrition Natural health and nutrition is something that is commonly overlooked in today's American society. Health cannot only change the way a person feels about their body, it can change a person's outlook on life. Being healthy does not necessarily mean going to the gym, or exercising at all. Something as simple as changing a diet can have a bigger and longer lasting effect on a host of diseases and other conditions. Changing ones diet can even have a greater effect than medication. It is, however, getting progressively more difficult to be a healthy eater because major companies are processing food and adding dangerous and unnecessary chemicals to the product. Moving away from eating fatty and salty convenience and highly processed foods could/will help decrease the possibility of heart and health problems in the future. Nutritional supplements are meant to help an already healthy diet not replace one, but in a generally healthy diet, they might not be needed, in more cases, however, they may be useful in providing more nutrients. To understand the perks of healthy eating, one must have to take a step back and understand the chemicals that are put into processed food and how they affect the body. To fully understand health one must understand nutrition basics, processed chemicals, and common misconceptions. The foods we eat today are not the same as the foods our ancestors ate. In ... • 27. Nutrition Final Exam : Nutrition Essay Jonathan Barker Dr. Moline Nutrition Final Exam 1. Carbs– carbohydrates are a vital source of our energy within the body. Carbs are the key nutrients that give our brains and red blood cells their energy. These carbs also come in different forms such as Fiber, which is a very important form or nutrient to our bodies. This is because fiber is tremendously important to our bodys digestive system. If someone took in too much fiber within their diet, it could cause terrible diarrhea. On the other hand, if someone does intake enough fiber in the daily diet, this could result in the cause of colon cancer. Another key nutrient for our body is fats. There are 4 types of fats ( monounsaturated, saturated, polyunsaturated, and finally trans fat). These fats help our body digest or break down vitamins D,E,A,K. the final key nutrient for our body is protein. The nutrient Protein helps the body with regulations of various hormones, fluids, enzymes, and antibodies. 2. She seems to be a little bit obsessed with what she puts into her body and her overall body image. Wanting to be healthy is not the problem. "Health care professionals are concerned not only about adolescents who are obese but also about adolescents who have unhealthy attitudes toward eating and toward their body image" (Steinberg, 2016, p. 36). It's not that H.D. is obese, or even overweight; it's that some of the things she was saying was leading to a belief that her body image is not strong. She mentioned ensuring she drinks a green smoothie everyday and how she rarely eats lunch at school. It is a healthy option for breakfast to enjoy a green smoothie, especially as a vegetarian, it is important to have a good source of vitamins, especially when protein is added to the smoothie. "Too many adolescents eat too much high–calorie, low–fiber food, and too few are physically active" Steinberg, 2016, p. 35). So it's extremely healthy for H.D. to monitor her macromolecules as she is, but H.D. talked about these rituals with her body type entwine. She continually mentioned how it was important to look thin; there was almost a superiority clause with her being the healthiest. She mentioned how her friends rarely see her eat; I don't think that is a health relationship to have with food as a senior in high school. Also, vitamins are not building components of body tissues, but aid in the construction of these tissues. It is impossible to reliably determine the vitamin requirements of an individual because of differences in age, sex, body size, genetic makeup, and activity. A good source of a recommendation is the RDA. The RDA makes it's recommendations based on studies of consumption of the given nutrient. Bowden is known to be "The Nutrition Myth Buster", and is also an expert on weight loss and health. "Vitamin and minerals are essential to life. You can believe it or not, but your body will not function properly without them" (Bowden). If so is it possible that a healthy diet and certain foods can fight diseases? Eating vitamins, minerals, and nutrition may help fight off certain diseases. "Vitamin supplements are important in preventing deficiency and diseases. New research suggests that taking increased amounts of vitamins C, E and A, may help reduce risk of cancer and heart disease" (Rumpf). For example, when you take vitamin C you would take 500–3000 mg a day. "The safety of vitamin E is now beyond question, and there seems to be the beginnings of good evidence to suggest that it might help prevent cancer, heart disease and stroke (Repine–Masci)." You can find vitamin E in spinach, sunflower seeds, almonds and etc. "Other people may have special nutritional needs or health problems that require extra vitamins. If your diet is normal and healthy, vitamin supplements are not needed" (Rumph). Minerals are easily as important as vitamins and can be often left out. • 39. Nutrition And Nutrition Does nutrition have effects on academic performance? The relationship between nutrition and academic performance has been a great interest to various amounts of schools and scientist all over the world. "Studies have shown that proper nutrition has a direct effect on student performance and behavior in school" (Ross, 2010, p.3). "Existing data suggests that with better nutrition students are able to learn, students have fewer absences, and students' behavior improves causing fewer disruptions in the classroom" (Extension, 2014, p.1). To explore the link between nutrition and academic performance, this essay will critically evaluate what foods react differently in our bodies in relation to academic performance, specifically for school– aged children and university students. This essay is divided into three main sections; first, it will examine the effects of poor nutrition such as a limited variety of nutrient–rich foods and excess of high fat and sugary foods, such as fast food, pies, chocolate and more. Secondly, it will examine the effects of good nutrition such as fruits, vegetables, grains and healthy fats. Thirdly it will examine the effects of not eating, specifically focusing on breakfast before school and its effects on learning. All food impacts our brains and the way they work. Poor nutrition can be classified as an excess amount of nutrient poor foods such as fast food, cakes and more, and a limited amount of nutrient– rich foods such as fruit, vegetables, and whole grains (Vautier, 2012). Nutrient rich foods provide high volumes of all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to function at its optimum, whereas poor nutrition will contain little to no vitamins or minerals. Many school–aged children and university students consume fast foods on a daily basis which has been shown to cause lower test grades and a weaker ability specifically in Math, Science and Reading (Guiang, 2014). Researchers from the Ohio State University have said that students who ate these types of food had shown test scores 20% lower than students who did not consume fast food at all (Guiang, 2014). • 43. Nutrition Reflection For Nutrition Raniel Gernale HHM Course 1. Nutrition for Health Nutrition is a concept that plays an important role in our well–being. Our body and the way we feel reflect on what foods we ingest as well as how we take care of ourselves. This course allowed us to analyze our diets in order to see how well we were with nutrition. I was lacking a significant amount of vitamins and minerals, as well as a few macronutrients. My physical activity level was about average so that was another improvement I had to make. The way we feel correlates to how we eat. Junk food can cause our skin to break out as well as make us feel sluggish throughout the day. This course has helped me make a change in my eating habits for the better. One change that I have been proud to make is that I am now accustomed to drinking black coffee. Originally, I would load in a lot of cream and sugar, but that is no way healthy at all. I now feel so much better knowing that I am able to make and keep even the smallest changes in my lifestyle. 2.How Judaism Approaches Life This course has taught me several ways of maintaining happiness and sharing kindness. And agriculture plays a key role in producing and improving access to the nutritious food needed for healthy, productive lives (Maher et al., 2015). Naturally, most people would say agriculture is about growing food and rearing animals; they are right. Agricultural performance, after all, is measured in terms of production measured in yield, grain production and output. The purpose of agriculture, however, does not stop there. At a deeper level, the purpose of agriculture is not just to grow crops and livestock for food and raw materials, but to grow healthy, well–nourished people (IFPRI and ILRI, 2010). Good nutrition is the foundation for healthy, effective and productive lives. Good nutrition in mothers improves their likelihood of giving birth to healthy babies, with strong immune systems and well–developed brains (Maher et al., 2015).Continued good nutrition helps those children carry on growing in strength and resilience. Short stature went from 29% to 18%. Children under 2 years of age also had statistically significant improvements in the height z scores when compared to other age groups. This is associated with the fact that there was an early correction of nutrition factors that contribute to growth retardation. The study showed that over time the biochemical data significantly improved, even for those children who reached stage 5 their status remained stable. Even though GFR decreased with time biochemical and hematological parameters remained stable, showing that MNT works. The decline in GFR was not significantly correlated to nutrition status (P= .4). Some children did not develop properly even when there was adequate nutrition and metabolic control. These patients there would benefit from taking recombinant growth hormone (rhGH). Human rhGH was not prescribed because it is costly and still not available in Brazil (Silva, 2015). A retrospective study examined the effect that gastrostomy tube feeding had on children between 1985 and 2007. The G–tube is effective on catching up on weight and moderately in height for pediatrics, but it doesn't lead to obesity after removal. When comparing the tube fed versus non–tube fed they found that in both overweight and obesity was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Nutrition And Nutrition The Effects of Nutrition on Cognition throughout the Lifespan The healthcare industry is changing its tune from care based on reaction to disease, to a focus more on prevention of disease and promotion of good health. A large component of this focus will be on nutrition due to its key role in sustaining physical and mental health (Kamath, Venkatappa, & Sparshadeep, 2017, para 2). Historically, nutrition was thought to only play a small role in health maintenance, but is now showing potential to be more beneficial than medicinal efforts (Kris–Etherton et al., 2014, para 1). Through ongoing research, adequate nutrition is essential to providing a solid foundation for growth of cognition in children, all the way through the lifespan, to affect the longevity of cognition in older adults and proper nutrition education must be supported by the role of the nurse and others within the healthcare team. Effects of Cognition in Malnourished Children There is evidence that nutrition during the school age is a critical period for the foundation of cognitive growth and advancement according to a study done by Kamath, Venkatappa, & Sparshadeep (2017). A standard of essential growth in children is set by the World Health Organization (WHO), categorized by percent growth according to weight and height of child. A child must be within the average standards to be considered adequately nourished. Well below the average of these standards is considered malnourished and the brain function of a ... • 67. Nutrition 251, And It Focuses On The Principles Of Nutrition I have recently been taking a course in college called Nutrition 251, and it focuses on the principles of nutrition. In this class, I had to read a book from Michael Pollan called In the Defense of Food. As I read, I could not help but remember all the things I have eaten. Pollan explains how food changed over the years in the US and goes into great detail in how the industrialization of our food has impacted our ways of eating, poisoning us with refined and processed foods. Reading Pollan's work made me realize that the food we eat is not actually food. Back then, food was grown and not scientifically engineered to provide humans with the nutrition we need. This book and course gave me a lot of reasons why we, as a family, should be more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He built upon Prout's discovery and stated that the mystery of animal nutrition has been solved. Liebig proposed that one did not need meat in their diet to survive. After declaring that, doctors began to see that babies and sailors that followed his rule did not survive healthily. Pollan also stated that "it seems to be a rule of nutritionism that for every good nutrient, there must be a bad nutrient" (Pollan 30). After reading his idea, I realized that it is comparative to life and how I view people. There is always something bad in good people. The second section of Pollan's work introduced me to the western diet and the diseases of civilization. This section really opened up my eyes on how we eat. For instance, Pollan stated that "immigrants from nations with low rates of chronic disease seemed to quickly acquire them" (Pollan 92). After acknowledging that piece of information I could not help but think of us. We are from a country that eats mostly home cooked meals, low fat diets, and eating healthy. Before we came to the US, I could not remember of a time that we went to a fast food place to eat. We would usually eat home cooked meals or go to a restaurant for special occasions. Now, I eat fast food on a daily basis and I am worried about my own health. Ever since I came to college, I have not gotten a home cooked meal since a month ago and that was only when I went back home over the weekend. I think that if I was to go back ... • 69. Nutrition Assessment The process of having a nutrition assessment conducted on myself was insightful. As a dietitian, I participated in a similar assignment many, many years ago in school so this experience was not altogether unfamiliar. Although that being said, the experience itself was quite different. Doing this back in college over twenty years ago, I was very conscientious and intentional about my food choices, physically fit, had never had any type of serious acute illness, and was I free of chronic disease. Back then it was easy, and actually kind of fun, to have a nutrition assessment conducted on me. In hindsight, I realize it was fun back then because I was, in almost all regards, doing quite well achieving my goals for health and fitness. The experience this time around was very different from those perspectives. While the interviewer did a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So I, like many, struggle with my weight. However, the difference is I have to eat low volume, high calorie food and supplement my intake to maintain an "acceptable" weight. The key word is struggle. I know what I'm supposed to do, but knowing doesn't mean I consistently doing. The nutrition assessment tool we used was not at all designed to handle anything other than a, otherwise healthy, patient with diabetes. This made me more self–conscious about how odd my responses must sound. However, I must say that my interviewer colleague was so fantastic in her approach that I fully opened up and shared, which I believe, allowed both of us to better appreciate the perspective of a patient with diabetes where weight loss is not their primary concern. Had I been asked to simply fill out a form without the dialogue, her showing kindness and genuine concern and curiosity, I don't know that I would have let my guard down and fully ... • 71. Personal Statement : Nutrition And Nutrition Many Americans today do not track their calories or pay attention to what they are eating. As they fail to do so, they also fail to analyze what nutrients, food groups, and physically activity they receive adequately and which they lack. As I have tracked foods and beverages that I have consumed, I have been able to collect data about which food groups/nutrients I consume adequately, where the majority of my calories come from, and how my physical activity compares to that recommended. As I analyze and compare my consumption to those recommended, my diet is not as healthy as it could be. I enjoy to snack, unhealthily, and eat foods that are convenient for my lifestyle rather than my health. I only received 57% of my calcium recommendations, 27% of potassium, 77% of copper, 67% of iron, 49% of magnesium, 75% of phosphorus, 78% of zinc, 49% of vitamin A, 92% of vitamin B6, 20% of vitamin C, 13% of vitamin D, 20% of vitamin E, 32% of vitamin K, 92% of folate, and 44% of choline; so in those areas, I lacked to meet adequate needs. Selenium, sodium, vitamin B12, thiamin, riboflavin, and niacin, I consumed sufficient amounts or more than what I needed. Since I have lacked to meet adequate amounts, I am at risk for certain deficiencies. Deficiency symptoms for vitamin A are fairly common and results in night blindness, eye disease, dry pimply skin, increased infections, and kidney stones. Deficiency symptoms for vitamin D include soft bones, soft teeth, and rickets, although it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Nutrition Assignment On Nutrition In this assignment I learned how to log my food and adjust my lifestyle and food choices by comparing what I ate to the recommended daily intake. It made me aware of what to look for on nutrition labels and how to interpret the data. This assignment helped me understand how to prepare healthy meals and which foods are the best source for certain nutrients. I now have a better understanding of personal, social, and cultural factors that have influenced my nutrition. I found out my strengths and weaknesses of my lifestyle from this assignment, and I also came up with nutritional goals to set for myself. Proteins, carbohydrates, and fats are the 3 macronutrients that our body uses for energy. There are also many micronutrients, vitamins, and minerals that are essential to the body for proper function and health. A person's food choices reflect upon their health in a positive or negative way. Whether that be high cholesterol, obesity, anorexia, fatigue, or clear skin and energy. No matter how active we are, our diet plays a huge role in our lifestyle. There can be complications with the factors that influence food choices as well. Keeping a food intake log and being educated on how many nutrients our body needs are very helpful tools to evaluate your health. Essential nutrients are ones that are not produced by the body. Macronutrients are an example of this which include: proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. There are two types of proteins: complete protein, which comes from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Nutrition And Nutrition The animals and the plants that we consume constitute the food. This food has energy and nutrients that are crucial to our bodies throughout our life supporting health and growth. The issue of nutrition to human beings has been a concern with every person trying his best to get enough to eat. The concern of the modern world about nutrition is on food safety, making quality diets, mineral intake and obesity among others. Nutritionists examine these issues together with food availability and safety in developing countries. Despite the confusion people have about the food and nutrition on times natural calamities or harsh economic status, many people have achieved the nutrition standards with few kids suffering malnutrition in different regions of the world. Therefore this paper is of importance since it will shed some light on people who have not familiarized with the nutritional requirements. "Nutrition is a science that studies food and how the food nourishes our bodies" (Zimmerman, 2012). It revolves around the processes by which metabolism, digestion and consumption, storage of nutrients and the long–term effects of the nutrients on the human bodies. The human body does not operate properly when there isn't adequate nutrition. The severe inadequacy of nutrition may contribute to a disease or even death. The typical diet is lacking in many ways ranging from lack of being speedily consumed to lack of proper nutrition. The factors that have led to food choice among many people include, the texture taste and appearance of the food. Different people have a different range of taste for food, and this affects their choice of food. Due to economic issues, access to fresh fruits and vegetable is limited to some groups especially those who are socially disadvantaged and live in extremes regions. The people who were not exposed to early food after they were born also find themselves with limited choices of food when they grow old. • 77. Nutrition And Nutrition As most know, maintaining a fairly healthy diet is important to the human body. When an individual consumes a balanced diet, it comes with many advantages opposed to disadvantages. Most believe that only a decent number of vitamins and minerals are what consist of a balanced diet, however, eating enough macronutrients is important too. Macronutrients are those that are needed most by the body, which includes proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates (Berning). Ultimately, when a person eats the proper quantity and quality of food each day it provides a great amount of benefits along with providing a healthy weight. When eating healthy, which a diet may include whole grains rather than refined grains, limited fatty meats, low–fat dairy products, vegetables, and fruit – it boosts your energy level tremendously (Healthy). Similarly, makes an individual in a better mood and helps prevents particular diseases caused by poor eating habits. These diseases may include type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and even depression (Healthy). I conducted a minor experiment, which required me to keep a food log. Based on the food log, it informed me of where I lacked in terms of macronutrients, micronutrients, and more. Throughout this experiment I made a few minor changes to my diet, however, these changes could make a difference to my health. For 5 days, I kept a food log of everything I consumed, which included everything – nothing was excluded from my log. Once this log was completed, I was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
