The Two Debtors!
Lk. 7:41-42 "There was a certain creditor
who had two debtors. One owed five
hundred denarii, and the other fifty."And
when they had nothing with which to
repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell
Me, therefore, which of them will love
him more?" Simon answered and said, "I
suppose the one whom he forgave more."
And He said to him, "You have rightly
judged."

In the middle of this encounter we find
the parable we want to study today!
●This is one of the parables that is not
expressly called a parable but clearly it is!
●This is one of the shortest parables!
●This is one only found once!
●This is one often not studied with many
of the other parables!
●This is a very powerful parable!

I. The Creditor!
“A certain moneylender/creditor”
●What really stands out to me here is that they
didn’t owe him a huge amount, like in the parable
of the unforgiving servant!
–Mt. 18:21-34
●10,000 = @ 3,000 shekels, 75lb, $840K each =
$8.4B if it was gold!
●100 = a days pay, $64 = $6,400!
●When they could not pay, he cancelled the debt of
both!

Who is the Creditor in the Story?
●Now, if God is the creditor, what does this
mean? Do we owe Him, can we pay Him?
●He paid a debt He did not owe, I owe a debt I
could not pay, I needed someone to wash my
sins away, And now I sing a brand new song,
Amazing grace all day long, Christ Jesus paid a
debt that I could never pay!
●Rom. 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but
the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord.

II. The Debtors!
“Had two debtors!”
●Who are the debtors in the story?
–1st and foremost they are Simon & the women!
–2nd we should see them as us and others!

trouble?
–Jas 2:10 For whoever shall keep the whole law,
and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.

Who in the story needed the
creditor to cancel their debt?
●Even though the amounts were different the need
was the same!
●Each of us may not be guilty of the same sins, but
each of us is guilty of sin!
–Rom. 3:10-12 As it is written: "There is none
righteous, no, not one; There is none who
understands; There is none who seeks after God.
They have all turned aside; They have together
become unprofitable; There is none who does
good, no, not one." (Cf. 3:23)

III. The Deduction!
“The one for whom he cancelled the larger debt”
●This is where an amazing realization comes to
light!
●Which one is really better off now?
●In verses 44-50 we see the parable principles
brought out!
–Luke 7:47 "Therefore I say to you, her sins,
which are many, are forgiven, for she loved
much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same
loves little."

Can you think of any examples
where we see this in the Bible?
●What about with Saul who becomes Paul?
–1 Tim. 1:15 “It is a true saying, in which all
may put their faith, that Christ Jesus came
into the world to give salvation to sinners, of
whom I am the chief!”
●What about with King David?
–See Ps. 51!
–David is the only one said to be a man after
God’s own heart! (Act. 13:22)
