The doctor may recommend surgery for the most severe cases. This process is
known as hemorrhoidectomy and is usually used as a last resort. Otherwise,
other procedures for getting rid of hemorrhoids may be prescribed by the
doctor.
For small to medium-sized piles, the doctor may use rubber band ligation to get
rid of hemorrhoids. This technique uses a rubber band at the base of the piles to
cut off the blood supply to them causing them to wither away in a few days
time.
Other techniques include sclerotherapy where a chemical solution is injected
into the piles to shrink them. Infrared coagulation is another technique the
doctor may use where a special device is used to burn off the hemorrhoidal
tissue.
